AHS uses a system that was designed from the bones up to fit this particular game; it is simple enough to understand, but is not without a little mechanical depth to keep things interesting. Newcomers to RPGs shouldn't be too intimidated! As long as you know the basic idea behind rolling a bunch of dice, you won't be too lost in this section. You should read through each of the collapses below in order so that you get introduced to the core concepts logically. I highly recommend that you read this section completely before you proceed to character creation, otherwise you might be a bit lost when it comes to understanding the value of certain features![/color][/left]

3[collapse=??? ??????: ???? ??? ???][left][color=pink]The founding concept behind most RPGs is that the player generally needs to be challenged in order to have fun. Now, you might find the notion of a sword-swinging hero cutting a swathe through kobolds without ever missing a strike to be quite a fun idea in itself, but isn't it more interesting if they might miss, on occasion? Or even take a little bit of a beating from the horde of angry kobolds that they're in the midst of massacring? #NoTakeCandle. Fortunately, there's a very easy solution to the problem, one that has been used in almost all RPGs worth discussing since the dawn of time! [i]Dice.[/i] You roll the dice, and you hope they come up in your favour.

5AHS uses dice to resolve challenges in a straightforward way. In the vast majority of tests, you will be asked to roll a dice pool consisting of one or more d6 dice. Usually, this pool is drawn from your core attributes (more on those below!). You may add dice to your pool depending on certain traits or bonuses, and you may also suffer penalties to your dice pool as a result of status conditions or other adverse circumstances. Don't worry about any of that too much just yet for this section though, you'll learn about all of those possible modifiers as you go along in this section, and during character creation!

7Usually, tests come about as a result of your character trying to accomplish a particular action. For example, you might be attempting to successfully study for an upcoming test. In this case, you'd roll your dice pool (with the relevant modifiers) for Intelligence, the core attribute which reflects your overall level of academic knowledge. For each dice that rolls a 4, 5, or a 6, you are considered to have rolled a success. Most actions that do not involve competing with another player or an NPC have set difficulties, which equal the amount of successes required to accomplish the action. In our earlier example of attempting to Study, the difficulty is likely to be low, requiring only one success.

9[color=orange][b]As mentioned, certain events and items your character encounters may give them a bonus to their dice pool. There are several effects that can stack up in this manner; however, the maximum bonus to any particular dice pool can never exceed +3!

11Finally, certain events may call for a percentile dice. That is simply a d100. In a situation that calls for percentile dice to be used, there may be a 75% chance of a certain consequence happening as a result of your action. In this case, you'd want to roll 25 or below in order to avoid that consequence. Occasionally, modifiers may apply here as well, adding or subtracting to the roll, therefore increasing or decreasing the probability of the consequence occurring!

13That about does it for the very basics. Now you understand the kind of dice we use, and how to use them to succeed at doing fun stuff! Now it's time to go deeper, and examine your Core Attributes.[/color][/left][/collapse][collapse=???? ??????????][left][color=pink]All characters have four core attributes that define their basic capabilities as people in the vast majority of situations they might find themselves. Some RPGs like to go big and have a long, meaty statblock, but AHS uses a relatively simple system instead! These four attributes are highly important and provide the bulk of your dice pools for any actions that your character might engage in that require a dice challenge. All characters begin play with at least one point in any given attribute, a value which can be further increased during character creation, and temporarily through certain mechanics during play. The four core attributes are as follows:

It covers everything that your character might need to excel in physical activities at school. This is an important primary attribute for characters that want to be sporty and confident in their bodies. This attribute is also used to resolve physical violence, and to use force to get your way.[/i][/color]

It can be used in quite a broad number of situations; for example, to make a good impression whilst trying to befriend a new student, or whilst trying to persuade a teacher to give you a little extra help before a test. It may also be used for seduction and deception. With enough confidence, you can say just about anything and get away with it![/i][/color]

A character with high intelligence is likely to be either particularly book smart and well-read, or they're very naturally gifted. Intelligence is the attribute of choice for those who wish to excel at their academic studies, or in other pursuits where reason and logic might prove useful.[/i][/color]

21[color=green][i][b]???????:[/b] This attribute is a reflection of your character's raw determination and ability to see things through, even in adverse circumstances. A character with high resolve will be better able to maintain their cool in stressful situations, and better able to resist the seductive advances of their fellow classmates. Focus on resolve if you'd like your character to have a strong spirit and be better able to deal with corruption.[/i][/color][/color][/left][/collapse][collapse=????, ??????????, & ?????????][left][color=pink]Whilst the core attributes are extremely important as they compose the majority of your dice pools, there are three other attributes that you will need to pay very close attention to. [b][color=purple]Lust[/color][/b], [b][color=red]Corruption[/color][/b] and [b][color=white]Willpower[/color][/b] are your character's Dynamic Attributes. As the name might suggest, these attributes are considerably less static, and they will fluctuate continuously throughout the course of the game. Each one is equally important and you will need to regularly update your character sheet to keep on track. If there is any difficulty at all to the AHS system, it's managing these three vital resources, so make sure you take notes whenever these attributes are modified! Unlike Core Attributes, which use a simple point system usually between 1-5, Dynamic Attributes instead range from 0-100%. Dynamic Attributes are frequently raised or lowered depending on the actions your character takes whilst playing, or the actions that she ends up subjected to. Each attribute has one or more 'thresholds' that apply certain effects to your character depending on how high or low the attribute has currently reached. The specific nature of these thresholds and their mechanical effects are outlined for each.

23[color=purple][i][b]????:[/b] Simply put, your character's current drive to engage in sexual activity. The higher your Lust, the bigger your appetite for sex and the harder time you have focusing on anything else but satisfying yourself as quickly as possible. This attribute can be raised through numerous actions performed either by your character herself, or another. Lust is generally reduced through engaging in masturbation or sex and achieving an orgasm, although certain conditions may make it more difficult to decrease. However, you may not necessarily want your Lust to be hovering at a low value! Lust can be spent as a resource to perform special actions that can potentially be beneficial for your character. All characters begin each weekly session with at least 50% Lust due to the corruptive influence of the succubus in your midst. If you already finished the previous week with over 50% Lust, there is no further increase.

25[b]♦ 60% Threshold:[/b] You need to fuck, or be fucked. Your mind is obsessed with lurid thoughts, and you can barely concentrate on anything. In fact, you're finding it a chore just sitting in class! You want to run off to the bathroom and masturbate! Maybe you can't even wait that long. Will anyone notice your hands underneath your skirt? [b]All rolls that are concerned with anything other than satisfying your sexual appetite suffer a -2 dice pool penalty.[/b][/i][/color]

The higher your level of corruption, the closer you are towards being completely overcome by unholy desires. With some exceptions (see character creation), all characters start with 0% in this attribute. Your character's Corruption is increased through her being subjected to various lewd actions either from NPCs or other characters or through her own doing by submitting to her immoral desires. Corruption may be reduced by taking specific actions or managing to resist the carnal influences of another character's behaviour towards you. The higher your level of Corruption, the closer you are to effectively losing the game. However, a high level of Corruption is not without its perks, as outlined below.

29[b]♦ Thresholds:[/b] With each taste of this unholy pleasure, you find yourself growing more invigorated. Surely, this is what living really means! Who cares about school when you can enjoy nothing but bliss for an eternity? Being a human is overrated! You want more, and you want it now. Each new taste opens up so many new possibilities. [b]Whenever you reach at least 20% Corruption, you unlock a Temptation, a unique supernatural gift that may be used to corrupt your fellow classmates.[/b]

31Additional thresholds are reached at 40/60/80 and finally at 100% - at which point you have succumbed completely to your Corruption, and unlock a Final Temptation. Each step up the ladder turns you into an increasingly depraved being, further away from your once innocent self. Each Temptation you unlock is bound to a specific threshold; if you reduce your Corruption level beneath that threshold for any reason, you temporarily lose access to that Temptation until you have managed to reach the same level again. [b]Be warned: the 60% mark is a point of no return. Upon reaching this level of Corruption, your character is now considered 'Tainted,' and can no longer reduce their Corruption beneath 60% through any means. At 100% the same applies, you have totally lost yourself to demonic influence and are now considered 'Corrupted.'[/b][/i][/color]

33[color=gray][i][b]?????????:[/b] Your Willpower is a vital resource that reflects your character's current mental state. At high levels of willpower, you are confident and content, and will have an easier time resisting dangerous influences that might seek to lead you astray. However, whilst your Willpower is low, you may begin to behave in an erratic manner. You are beset with doubts and anxieties, and your resolve may start to crumble, leaving you exposed and vulnerable to the societal pressures of high school life and the unnatural influences that are seeking to claim your mind, body, and soul. Unless otherwise stated in character creation, all characters start at 100% Willpower. This attribute may be increased by performing various actions. Through intense focus, Willpower can be expended deliberately by the player to [color=green]grant them an extra dice on any roll.[/color] You can intentionally [b]reduce your Willpower by 20%[/b] to get this bonus; note that you must have at least that much, otherwise you cannot perform this action.

35[b]♦ Thresholds:[/b] When your Willpower is high, you feel invincible. Everything is going right, and even a bad day probably won't dampen your spirits too much. However, when your Willpower is low, you find yourself feeling terribly vulnerable. You need to find solace. You're too stressed out. When you're feeling this low, the sweet, temptation of corruption doesn't seem that bad. [b]Whenever you have at least 60% Willpower or more, you gain an extra +1 dice on Resolve rolls. However, whenever your Willpower is 40% or lower, you suffer a -1 penalty instead. If your Willpower ever reaches 0% during a weekly session, you receive the [color=blue]'Broken'[/color] status condition.[/b][/i][/color][/color][/left][/collapse][collapse=?????? ??????????][left][color=pink]Your character exists in a dynamic roleplaying world, and the actions that she takes, and the actions that others take, can leave a lasting impression on her. Status Conditions are lingering effects that your character can pick up in numerous ways that usually have positive or negative mechanical effects. Occasionally, they might even have a combination of both. Most Status Effects last for a certain period of time (e.g One session), but some may be indefinite until they are resolved in a specific way, or even permanent in rare cases. It's important to keep track of your current Status Effects and keep them in mind before you make any rolls that might be affected by them.

Actions are the most crucial part of the whole game, as they determine (obviously!) what your character can do. This is the section where everything that you've learned thus far starts to get put into context, and everything starts to [b]click.[/b] That's the intention, anyway. There are a vast amount of Actions available to your character depending on their circumstances, so I've done my best to categorise and explain them in a meaningful way. Before you get reading up on each Action though, it's time we first explain exactly what an Action is.

175There are two types of Actions for player characters to perform: [b]Weekly Actions[/b], and [b]Personal Actions.[/b] In the first case, Weekly Actions are those which your character can perform only a limited number of in any given week, through spending Weekly Action Points (WAP). All characters by default have 5/5 WAP at the start of every weekly session, and most Weekly Actions cost one point to perform. Given their limited nature, Weekly Actions are important choices that your character makes during the school week, and tend to influence either her own attributes, or the attributes of another character, in a significant way. [b]Weekly Actions are taken in a specific order at a specific time of the weekly session; this will be explained in a later collapse, so hang tight![/b]

177Personal Actions do not require as significant an investment of time, and can instead be performed at will during RP scenes. Think of them as special skills or abilities that your character can use in particular circumstances. Many of them are context-sensitive and may require your character to be in a very specific situation, e.g being fucked against her will. Both Weekly and Personal Actions may cost certain resources, demand certain rolls be made to succeed, or may even have a risk of a significant consequence occurring.

179Finally, there is one more category of Action that you need to be aware of: [color=red][i][b]Demonic Actions.[/b][/i][/color] Indeed, Arisa is not simply sitting on her laurels whilst all of her classmates are having fun. Just like PCs, Arisa can perform Weekly and Personal Actions, except these are all generally supernaturally antagonistic in nature. The kicker here is that many of her Demonic Actions are taken in [i]secret[/i] at first. At the beginning of play, only two Demonic Actions in Arisa's arsenal are known to players. Other Demonic Actions will only become known to players if a character experiences the action, is able to remember what happened, and spreads the information. Once publicly revealed, the new Demonic Action will be added to the list!

181[color=white][b]Important Note: Many of the weekly actions utilise percentile dice chances to allow for the possibility of something unexpectedly bad happening to your character. It is usually possible to navigate your way past most of these outcomes by taking decisions during the flow of the action chain. However, in some cases, you may actually want the bad outcome to happen very much, regardless of how low the chance may be of it occurring.
