2Charles P.: Kevin and Tub?
3Zeven K.: (Fine by me)
4(Up to gm of course tho)
5Charles P.: That one, less so.
6What're we up to? We've got a vague mention of a lost pot guy, yeah?
7Zeven K.: well we are the only 2 players on right now. shrug
8so that one makes sense as the story to follow
9last i checked we were running from 9 ish people who are probably polemen?
10and there was abunch of guys who climbed out of pots with us?
11one of em was missing and we were asked to bring em back if we found em
12Charles P.: 9? We can take 'em.
13Just kidding, I see a lot of typing going on.
14Zeven K.: id like to live to atleast lvl 2 before going out in a suicide rush
15Wizzzargh (GM): No real 'running' you escaped back into the town of Limedike without further incident. I assumed you would then spend a day possibly meeting up with the pot guys
16Since I saw there were questions you wanted to ask them
17Charles P.: Heck yeah, I posted up some starter que... That.
18Tub enters the tavern
19Kevin Garvok follows him in
20Kevin Garvok: (By now of course we've removed our masks)
21(and likely cleaned the blood of our looting hands)
22Charles P.: (Do you have your ho-buddy with you?)
23Wizzzargh (GM): 4
24Shockingly enough, the hobuddy is available for further adventures
25Tub: And +1 for every adventure survived!
26Though no longer in black robes, you meet up with the leader of the pot-men, who recognizes you and waves you to a table, even if you didn't immediately recognize him.
27Tub looks around the tavern in hopes of a descriptive infoblock.
28Kevin Garvok: (Btw did tub ever add the 20 cp?)
29(from the money?)
30(and there were 4 polemen we delt with right?. so we have 2 pistols each?. or did we forget to loot the last one?)
31(or did he not have a pistol?)
32The Hooked Eel is an inn of no great repute, recently sent into an economic downturn by the sewers being gouged open nearby. THey've been sealed off (along with the stench) since then, but business isn't booming.
33Wizzzargh (GM): 3/4 had pistols
34Charles P.: (nope. I forgot completely. How much are fine tools?)
35Kevin Garvok: (also dont forget to add 1 of the 3 pistols to your inventory. its loaded)
36(could be handy later)
37Charles P.: (i did that. I helped myself to 3 xtra shots too.)
38Tub heads over to the potmans table
39Wizzzargh (GM): Silver for permanent ones, copper for expendable crap
40Kevin Garvok: (guess that means i need to subtract 3 shots from the bag unless you got em off a poleman)
41Charles P.: (That'd be like, single use?)
42Wizzzargh (GM): yup
43Charles P.: (re Zeven:yes.)
44Tub offers a high five (the traditional greeting in Limedike) to the potman.
45Kevin Garvok checks if they have any cheap ale
46Wizzzargh (GM): Bridget actually,
47but there's cheap ale, yes
483c
49Kevin Garvok: (is obo still with us?)
50Lester: Greeting. THe name is Lester.
51Wizzzargh (GM): (if you want him to be, yes
52Kevin Garvok buys self a drink and buys obo one as well
53Obo: Cheers mate
54Tub: "Same, I'm Tub."
55Kevin Garvok nods and heads over to where tub is
56Lester: I expect you haven't been fortunate enough to find our missing companion yet... what can I help you with?
57Kevin Garvok: "my name is Kevin."
58Tub: "I wanted to ask what you were doing down there."
59"I didn't get the chance, in last nights rush."
60Kevin Garvok: "Also i wanted to ask more about that place down there and likely places to find your friend at"
61"maybe you could help draw us a map?"
62Lester: It's easier to remember the face of true beauty in the darkness. We were meditating inside the pots, while I kept watch for any darkspawned monsters. Or Polemen,
63Tub: "Yeah, you mentioned true beauty last night..."
64Lester: I'm afraid we know very little of the place- it's merely an out of the way place to meet away from our families.
65I'll explain....
66He sounds dreamy as he goes on
67Lester: A week or two ago, a certain mask was sold in the city. The merchant who had it became enraptured by the beauty implied by it, and invited people over to see it. We were all among those.
68The merchant is the one who went missing along with his pot, incidentally... name of Fletcher.
69Tub: "That's odd."
70Lester: In any case, trying to recapture the beauty of the face that fits the mask... it's become our hobby, I suppose. But not one that other people would understand, and I certainly don't want to get an earful from my wife about it...
71Hence our secret meditations in the dark.
72Tub: "Heh."
73"Well, I suppose we're going back down there today."
74Kevin Garvok: "Are darkspawned monsters common down there?"
75Lester: I would imagine so- apart from the areas patrolled and kept lit by the Polemen and the workmen of the cities, there's nothing keeping the lower levels from twisting in the darkness, free of the law and light of the sun.
76Tub: "Did you have any idea where Fletcher might have gotten to?"
77Lester: I'm afraid not... in the darkness, he simply wasn't there. Risks of the dark, you know.
78But I hope he didn't go far...
79Tub: "Ok then, we'll get in touch with you if we find anything down there."
80Tub rises to leave.
81Kevin Garvok rises to leave as well
82Kevin Garvok: "one last thing."
83"any tips for dealing with the more humanoid threats down there?."
84Lester: The polemen don't like venturing beyond their territory, so if you flee east or down, you should be able to leave them behind.
85Kevin Garvok: "alright. thanks."
86Tub: To the sewers!
87Kevin Garvok heads to sell off our extra loot before continuing down again
88Kevin Garvok: (3 knifes and the candles sold)
89(trying to get more money by selling a knife individually)
90(to a shop here n there around town)
91Tub: Which reminds me. +ten torches.
92Wizzzargh (GM): just cut the price in half then
93when you're selling stuff
94Kevin Garvok: knife is 5 letters (is it cp or sp?)
95Wizzzargh (GM): cp
96Kevin Garvok: so 2.5 per knife and 3.5 for the candles
97meaning either 7.5 for all the knvies or 6 and 3.5 or 3 for candles. so i should gain either 11 cp or 9
98Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, round down when it comes to coppers
99Where would you like to enter the sewers
100Tub: Potman entrance.
101We'll just sorta pick up from last session.
102I need centering
103There's a hidden passage north behind some dangling roots in this room that probably passes under the sunken and overgrown graveyard.
104Wizzzargh (GM): Alternatively, you could head south back to the various Poleman areas
105Tub: Secret passage! That's 10x more likely to contain loot.
106Tub takes point.
107Kevin Garvok follows
108Kevin Garvok has great axe ready
109You seem to have entered an underground complex of sunken graves, root-adorned catacombs, and burrowed earth tunnels.
110Tub: Do people get buried with money/jewelry around here?
111It is a maze of twisty little corridors and decaying architecture...
112Kevin Garvok: "im not from around here so i dono the customs"
113"might be worth checking"
114"to see if the dead have loot on em"
115"i doubt they will notice its gone"
116Wizzzargh (GM): Depends on who it was, really. But this place is sealed off from skull-light so you shouldn't have to worry about undead.
117Tub: Brb 5-10 minutes.
118Kevin Garvok looks to see if anything shiney is glinting in the torch light
119Wizzzargh (GM): Is there any particular direction you'd like to focus on going, or will you just focus on checking fallen coffins, crypts, and so on for potential treasures.
120Kevin Garvok: (Yea that but im half expecting monsters to be hiding in the coffines or around the corner so ive got my axe ready)
121(the second one. nothing specific. )
122(i mean maybe some sort of search pattern?)
123Wizzzargh (GM): To be thorough
124sure
125Kevin Garvok: (yea.)
126(Also pokeing the ground with an unlit torch ahead of me)
127(to check for traps)
128(wait cant.)
129(have to poke it with axe)
130(because 2 handed)
131Wizzzargh (GM): Well, it's 2 handed to wield
132You'd have to drop the torch for combat, but you could poke with the Torch if you'd prefer
133Kevin Garvok: (i wana be ready to swing with it)
134(best to have it in both hands)
135Wizzzargh (GM): Obo with torch as usual then
136Kevin Garvok proceeds slowly but surely and is ready to bolt if a trap activates
137Kevin Garvok warns obo to run if he does as well
138The dead here sleep peacefully, apart from squirming worms in those who are well on their way to becoming dirt.
139Wizzzargh (GM): You open a few coffins, but there's not much worth anything... until!
140Kevin Garvok: "hey obo. why do people build tombs?. i mean i get the whole "keep em out of the skull moon" thing but it seams like cremation would get the whole thing done and over with faster"
141(skull moon's light*)
142Obo: Takes a lotta fire to burn people proper. Bones is the worst to get rid of.
143Kevin Garvok: "True. i mean it seams like it'd be easier just to cut down a tree then it would be to make big elaborate places like this"
144"but i suppose if people were digging anyways. say for quarrying bricks for a home.."
145"then places like this start to make alot more sense."
146Obo: Could be. The easiest method is to just stash people in a hollow grave-tree...
147Tub: Until?
148Also, centering.
149The discussion is cut short when you open up a coffin and see some glittering silver coins!
150Tub: Nice!
151Kevin Garvok loots em
152Tub: It's great to not be broke.
153The withered skeleton also clutches a twisty black root, polished at one end to make a handle.
154Wizzzargh (GM): 13 silver
155Tub: Huh. Magic staffm
156?
157Wizzzargh (GM): More like a wand..
158Kevin Garvok takes the root-wand?
159Kevin Garvok: "hey obo what do you make of this?"
160Closer examination shows fanciful beasts carved into the sides of the black root.
161Kevin Garvok: "seams an odd thing to be buried with."
162"you think its special?"
163Obo: Maybe they was a witch? He shrugs
164This is neath the old graveyar, after all.
165Kevin Garvok shrugs
166Kevin Garvok pokes the corpse with the stick
167Kevin Garvok: "i dont suppose your able to tell us how this works"
168"if you were i couldn't have taken it"
169"yea?"
170Kevin Garvok shrugs
171The corpse remains silent...
172Kevin Garvok waves the root stick wand thing around abit in the corpses general direction
173Kevin Garvok: "Whats this even do anyways?"
174Wizzzargh (GM): It seems to trail blackness in the air, like a pen leaving behind ink in midair.. the aimless scribbles soon fall to the ground and merge with the shadows.
175Kevin Garvok: "ive no idea how to use this..."
176"but i bet it could be worth something to the right buyer..."
177"best not to try n sell it on the open market though.."
178Kevin Garvok shrugs and trys to write "Darkness" with it in the air
179Kevin Garvok stows it in pack
180The words hang, but then fall into slithering nothing.
181Kevin Garvok continues searching
182About half an hour later, you come to a rough tunnel overgrown with a greenish moss, heading south-east and apparently leaving the maze of graves behind.
183Kevin Garvok: "what do you guys think. should we head this way?"
184"or keep exploring the corpse storage tunnels?"
185Obo: If I were a man lost in the dark, I'd likely not linger long among the dead.
186Kevin Garvok: "alright. guess we'll head out then"
187Wizzzargh (GM): (looks like charles lost internet)
188Alright, through the mossy tunnel...
189Kevin Garvok switchs to duel wielded pistols
190There are three parallel sewer tunnels, joined by short linking ducts that are sealed behind iron grates that are not locked, but simply attached into the brickwork.
191Wizzzargh (GM): Sewage runs down a grate in the floor in the tunnel you are in, and while you can dimly see into the other tunnels through the ducts, you can't reach 'em without removing the grates somehow.
192Kevin Garvok checks how rusted they are
193They look fairly rusty, but there's some strangeness to them...
194Kevin Garvok puts pistols away and draws axe
195Looking closer, the rust is almost exactly the same on each grate.
196Kevin Garvok cautiously inspects it with out getting too close
197Wizzzargh (GM): The ducts with sewage running through are a bit more corroded, but the grates are like reflections of each other.
198Tub: Sry, I got pulled away again.
199Kevin Garvok: "... hmm"
200"something is rusting them all in the same spots"
201"i dont like this..."
202(Are gelantinus cubes a known thing in this world?)
203Wizzzargh (GM): Not in specific, but strange oozes are known to exist.
204Kevin Garvok: (are the rust patterns cube like?)
205(whats the rust patterns shape?)
206(how far above the "Water line" are they?)
207Each grate has the bottom/central area heavily corroded in precisely the same semicircular area
208Wizzzargh (GM): For water to have done this, it would have had to pass through in the shape of a dome
209Tub: "Whack it."
210Kevin Garvok: ".. do you think an ooze did this?"
211"how fast do oozes move?"
212Tub: "Or we can just head straight. There's no real reason to enter the other tunnels just yet."
213"I've never heard of an ooze in my life."
214Kevin Garvok: "ive heard they look like jam. but more acidic"
215Wizzzargh (GM): This tunnel is a dead end apart from the ducts, made for sewage, not people.
216Tub: I need centering.
217Kevin Garvok: "and vary alot in size"
218"i thought they were made up"
219Tub: Oh. I also need a token, bc this is confusing.
220Kevin Garvok: "but..."
221"i dono... i mean what else could cause this?"
222Tub: "Well, I'm sure they die when you shoot them."
223Kevin Garvok: "i dont know"
224"if you shot jam would it die?"
225"or just splatter about?"
226Charles P.: So we have two grates to pick betweenm
227Tub: ?
228Kevin Garvok: "Just be ready with the pistol."
229"i dont wana become food for something that looks like jam."
230Tub: "Splatter and die sound like the same thing to me!"
231Kevin Garvok readys axe
232Kevin Garvok lines up the swing
233Tub pats the lump in his coat that denotes his pistol.
234Kevin Garvok: (1d8 right?)
235Tub: Or just declare that you hit it. There might be no roll needed.
236Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah
237Kevin Garvok: (im not just trying to hit it im trying to break it)
238Tub: Wizz is playing with tokens...
239Wizzzargh (GM): The issue is time and noise, not 'whether you can or not'
240It's definitely weak enough to break
241Kevin Garvok Gives it One Good hard Swing to try and break part of it then jumps back expecting something to attack in retaliation
242Tub: "..."
243With some clanging and crashing, the grate is destroyed... You hear another sound after the echoes of the fallen metal have faded away thogh
244Tub listens for direction
245Kevin Garvok starts heading back to the catacombs
246Sounds like metal being dragged from the sewer tunnels past the ducts
247Kevin Garvok: "yea no.. i find the place full of dead guys less creepy"
248"lets go back there."
249Tub heads for the noise
250Obo: Smells better, too
251Kevin Garvok returns to catacombs with perhaps more haste then is warented
252Tub crawls through the duct to the second tunnel... he sees, through the ducts in the third tunnel
253A muscular male figure, 8 feet tall, in a stained leather apron, a torch in one hand and a large cleaver in the other.
254Tub: Whao. Not human.
255The man is wearing a hood like an executioners, and he bends down to peer through the duct at Tub at the other end.
256???: Fresh meat...
257The voice of the man sound like a gravel avalanche. Not human indeed.
258Tub: "Not really, no."
259Tub draws his pistol and points it at the thing.
260Kevin Garvok was too afraid of imagined monsters to be there right now
261Tub: I noticed.
262It doesn't seem to recognize the threat.
263Kevin Garvok: (honestly he'd probably be less afraid if he knew the threat had blood to spill and a head to hack off)
264Tub: "Oh, well. These are pretty new, but this thing will kill a horse, so I think it should do for you as well. I ain't your meal."
265Either in response to your threat, or on account of how it couldn't fit through the ducts, the figure draws away, heading elsewhere.
266Wizzzargh (GM): Does Tub have any light of his own?
267Tub: Ten torches
268Wizzzargh (GM): So torch in one hand, pistol or harpoon in other
269Tub looks at the new tunnel.
270Tub: Pistol, at the moment, but I'll probably switch back next time I take an action.
271Wizzzargh (GM): Doesn't seem to go anywhere, tub, though there's another grate in the floor here, too.
272Tub: Corroded?
273Wizzzargh (GM): Yup
274Tub gives it a good peering.
275Wizzzargh (GM): Sewage flows down it, making it hard to see where it leads besides 'down'
276Tub: Gross.
277Tub kicks at the grating to the third tunnel
278Wizzzargh (GM): It'll give way with a few minutes.
279Will you stay here and kick, or go after Kevin and Obo.
280Kevin Garvok: (might be a good idea to tell Kevin the monster is a ugly man eating butcher instead of an ooze)
281Tub: Kick. Running after Kevin to beg him to stick together... Well, it doesn't sound appealing.
282Kevin Garvok continues exploring Catacombs
283A long brick sewer tunnel leads east. A torch burns at the far end, where it looks to turn N and S
284Kevin Garvok: "i think im starting to remember why i was a debt collector and not an adventurer."
285"well. not much to do about it now.."
286Wizzzargh (GM): *west
287Kevin Garvok: "if i dont learn to survive from the pathetic stuff down here how am i guna survive the goons coming for me when they finally catch up?"
288"..buuut still.. i dont wana fight something immune to weapons"
289Wizzzargh (GM): Well, charles might be afk
290So I'll focus on the catacombs instead for now
291Kevin Garvok: "thats just not smart ya know?"
292Tub: Back.
293But also, not back.
294Kevin Garvok: "next time ill bring something to burn ooze's away with. like oil."
295Tub: I'm going afk for like, 30 minutes.
296Kevin Garvok: "maybe immune to being struck. maybe not. but i bet there not immune to being burned into ash"
297Wizzzargh (GM): Ok
298Is there any particular direction you'd like to head through the catacombs
299or would you like to just maximise coffin looting again
300Kevin Garvok: (always take left most wall)
301(and scratch a mark into the corner with knife)
302(each time have turned)
303(That way i know where ive been before)
304Wizzzargh (GM): Sounds good. You skirt the outer edges of the depths of the catacombs, and find no more loot, but you do find another tunnel leading away from the central sprawl of subterranean graves.
305It slants uphill, so it must be rising into the area of limedike higher and inland, as opposed to the seaport section.
306Kevin Garvok continues exploring the catacombs and marking the trail of the outer ring till they find their markings
307Kevin Garvok: (or encounter something)
308(like coffins to loot)
309(that are not already looted)
310Wizzzargh (GM): You turn a corner, and in Obo's light, something swings towards you! A skeleton bound up in roots and vines, hanging and clacking!
31110
312Kevin Garvok attempts to break it apart with axe
313Wizzzargh (GM): Obo gives a wail of 'THE DEAD' and flees, taking the torchlight with him! You can only see the faintest shadows of the dangling corpse before you
314Kevin Garvok: "Get back here there might be more that way!
315Kevin Garvok attacks
316Kevin Garvok: (nvm)
317(gotta run)
318(Dont wana be in the dark)
319Wizzzargh (GM): You pursue the craven Obo, who, to his credit, stopped running when it seemed nothing but you was in pursuit.
320Kevin Garvok: "Dont take the torchlight with you fool."
321"think. if theres one. there could be more!"
322"and you dont have proper weapons to deal with em!"
323"besides. that one was tied up in vines and roots!"
324"it cant get you"
325Obo: Hmmm...
326Kevin Garvok: "now come on. lets go back and smash it into dust and peices."
327Obo: I suppose it might be safe...
328Kevin Garvok: "so it will stop moving "
329He reluctantly follows you back.
330The skeleton dangles motionless in the roots.
331Wizzzargh (GM): Apart from some sway left over from the initial fall from the ceiling, it appears lifeless.
332Kevin Garvok: "im not sure this thing was even animated"
333"it may just have appeared such "
334"you ran in terror from an inanimate corpse...."
335"Here. this may help you get over your fear of it."
336Kevin Garvok pokes it with the axe
337Kevin Garvok: "See? its just held by the roots like a marinonette on strings"
338Wizzzargh (GM): Looks like the roots are tied on, even, to keep the bones together and the ceiling suspension stable.
339Kevin Garvok: "just think. you could have left me in the -dark- and ran your way into -real- danger"
340"all over an inanimate thing"
341"you need to be better with fear. i get that its not your job to fight."
342"but honestly your own fear was a bigger threat to you this time"
343He rubs his head ruefully.
344Kevin Garvok: "then the supposed monster was"
345Obo: Yeh, I suppose you're right.
346Kevin Garvok: "And even if it had been a monster."
347"do you really think it would have gotten you had you stayed?"
348"its not even equipped with a proper weapon."
349"and i have a great axe."
350"Even if it -did- get me you would have plenty of time to run -after- i fell in battle"
351"but odds are i would simply break its skull"
352Kevin Garvok: "and smash it to pieces"
353"and if it wanted to get to you it'd have to go through me first"
354"you lose that advantage if you run off alone"
355Obo: Aye aye, I get it already... I may not be used to battle but I'm not daft!
356Kevin Garvok: "now. are you feeling ok?"
357He's gone from sheepish to indignant, he's probs fine
358Kevin Garvok: "Alright."
359"thankfully it was nothing"
360"lets keep going"
361Kevin Garvok proceeds in exploring the outer edge of the catacombs
362Wizzzargh (GM): You find another tunnel on the edge, 'guarded' by another vine-puppet skeleton
363Kevin Garvok pokes it with axe
364Wizzzargh (GM): It seems to be set up to swing forward to spook people entering from this tunnel though- you came up 'behind' it so to speak
365Kevin Garvok rattles it around with axe
366Kevin Garvok: "yea.. there like scare crows"
367"but for people"
368"kinda shoddy work. needs to be drenched in blood and armed with weapons."
369"then it would be alot more scary"
370"also more then one."
371Obo: Be hard to keep fresh blood on 'em
372Kevin Garvok: "doesn't need to be fresh"
373"but ill have to remember this trick"
374Obo: Then it's be hard to see old brown bloodstains in dim torchlight...
375Kevin Garvok: "might be useful later"
376He seems much more confident now that there's an explanation for em
377Kevin Garvok: "well if you just put the blood on their hands and mouths"
378"so it looks like they tore people open long ago"
379Kevin Garvok looks up tunnel
380Kevin Garvok: "where do you suppose these go to anyways?"
381Obo: Hmm... we've gotta be near the town outskirts to the north I'm sure. Maybe they end, that way...
382East tunnels probably lead to below the richer districts. Maybe even the castle.
383Kevin Garvok: "hmm."
384Kevin Garvok trys to determine how long ago the bones were set up here at a guess
385Obo: I've walked the streets aboveground plenty, and that feels about right to me. he nods sagely
386Kevin Garvok: "i wonder who set these up"
387"and why there trying to keep people out of here?"
388Wizzzargh (GM): Hard to say- the knots are well-tied and the roots seem in decent enough condition
389The skeleton is definitely older than the 'scarecrow' set up, you imagine
390Kevin Garvok: "im guessing something else important and or valuble is down here somewhere.."
391"otherwise why try to scare people off?"
392Kevin Garvok continues along the outer edge
393Kevin Garvok: "Lets see if we can find it."
394Wizzzargh (GM): there's another tunnel leading NE fairly close to the last one.
395Kevin Garvok: (any scarebones?)
396Wizzzargh (GM): Doesn't look like it.
397Kevin Garvok: "hmm. i wonder why theres no scarebones here."
398"Well we can explore these later. lets find the valuble thing first"
399Kevin Garvok continues on
400Wizzzargh (GM): As you've been taking the time to investigate coffins, you find some more grave goods before the next tunnel
401A dead man in ancient and wormeaten robes has a necklace that's simply some leather cords wrapped around a gemstone in a monkey's fist style knot
402Kevin Garvok: "say obo.. why do you suppose people get buried with stuff?"
403"do you think they thought they could take it with them to some kind of afterlife?"
404Obo: I've heard we return to the sun which gave us life after we die. So I dunno what good they thought it'd do 'em there...
405The hobo shrugs.
406Obo: I'm not the sentimental type meself.
407Kevin Garvok: "me neither. im more used to taking stuff off the living"
408"but this is way easier"
409"if abit less pleasent smelling "
410Kevin Garvok takes the necklace
411Kevin Garvok: "doubt the robes be worth much but this probly is."
412"but i mean. its abit rediculous.."
413"why bury yourself with stuff like this?"
414"and if they do think they take it with them then how is it still here?"
415"and would they think us taking it here removes it from them in the afterlife?"
416"and if not why not just wear all the stuff you want to keep in the afterlife all the time so that when you die the stuff's ghost copy or what ever go's with you and everybody else can take whats left here?"
417Kevin Garvok shrugs
418Kevin Garvok: "people just make no sense. but hey"
419"atleast its making our lives easier"
420"if we can get gold for this thing ill buy you another drink after we sell it"
421Kevin Garvok continues on
422obo: Much obliged.
423Kevin Garvok: (is the blue one flooded?)
424Wizzzargh (GM): (nah, the squares aren't indicative of anything beyond 'this place is really complicated but not INTERESTING enough to map it)
425The next 'exit' from the twisted catacombs you find appears to be an abandoned storage cellar.
426Kevin Garvok puts axe away n gets pistols out
427Kevin Garvok quiets up
428Wizzzargh (GM): There's a tunnel to the south that looks like a typical sewage tunnel, lit by candles.
429Kevin Garvok listens for movement
430Wizzzargh (GM): Quiet as the graves you just left behind.
431Kevin Garvok checks the storage cellar for anything useful
432Kevin Garvok: (and or valuble)
433Tub: I'm back.
434Looks like a toymakers workshop- old doll heads and tiny scraps of cloth, carved wooden figurines, and other things of small value are rotting away here.
435Wizzzargh (GM): There's stairs up as well.
436Kevin Garvok: "Time to earn your ale."
437"carry as much of this junk as you can."
438Kevin Garvok has obo carry the most sellable stuff of it
439Wizzzargh (GM): Obo reckons the intact buttons snd sewing materials are probably the best thing to get.
440Kevin Garvok: "good thinking."
441Wizzzargh (GM): Aight, will you return to the surface for now to sell what you've found?
442Kevin Garvok finishs lap around the catacombs
443Kevin Garvok: (till we get to around here atleast)
444Kevin Garvok listens to the room full of pots
445Kevin Garvok then proceeds to the surface via the known to be safe route if nothing is in there
446Wizzzargh (GM): You did hear receding footsteps, actually.
447Kevin Garvok: (best guess, how many people?)
448Wizzzargh (GM): 9
449Hey, maybe it's the same nearby poleman patrol from yesterday...
450Kevin Garvok puts on mask
451Kevin Garvok motions for obo to do the same
452A minute or so later, the sound of footsteps has receded...
453Wizzzargh (GM): Would you like to exit via the pot room, or maybe try the old toy storage staircase
454Kevin Garvok waits another 5 minutes then cautiously peaks around the corner
455Wizzzargh (GM): Coast seems clear. The hallway to the south is dimly lit as if by candles lining the walls.
456Kevin Garvok: "What do you think obo. should we leave this way or try to find another exit?"
457Obo: That man in the tavern said Polemen don't like leaving their territory...
458This is close to 'em but there's no candles lit
459I think we're clear.
460Kevin Garvok: "alright, you know this town better then i do so we'll go with your instincts on this"
461Kevin Garvok heads up via the known exit
462The coast is indeed clear
463Kevin Garvok removes mask on the way and motions for obo to do same
464Wizzzargh (GM): The ruby is worth 4 gold if you wish to sell it, the old buttons and sewing stuff simply pays for drinks for you and Obo
465Tub: Bank.
466Meanwhile, about 2 hours ago
467Wizzzargh (GM): Tub went after the menacing figure, and is currently looking at a T intersection heading N and S. A torch burns in a wall sconce, lighting the area.
468Tub: Any difference between the options?
469Wizzzargh (GM): S seems a bit curved, but both are of brick sewer tunnels.
470You might see more if you actually look down 'em of course
471Tub: I'll head S.
472Or look.
473That.
474As you turn the corner, you jump back- the massive cleaver-wielding figure must be responsible for the torch in the sconce, for he wields it two handed now and tried to bring it down on your head!
475Wizzzargh (GM): No surprise round, what will you do
476Tub: Wtf! I'll backpeddle and draw my pistol!
477Wizzzargh (GM): Aight, he'll go first then, pursuing with a deranged growl and going first this round as you draw the pistol. 15 9
478Tub: And tub is dead.
479Wizzzargh (GM): Well, maybe
480roll the death save with a -X equal to damage beyond 0HP
481Tub: Hp:6
4824
483Tub never returns from the sewers...
484Tub: GG...
485Kevin Garvok: (Maybe kevin was smart not to take that path?)
486(Imaginary slimes or not
487Wizzzargh (GM): Well, might've gone better with 2 heads... then again, maybe not.
488Kevin Garvok: (it sure kept him away from death this time)
489Kevin Garvok sells the ruby but keeps the strange wand and keeps it a secret
490Kevin Garvok decides to ask around at the tavern about witches
491Kevin Garvok: (and yeah maybe but tub had his chance at going back and getting assistance)
492(and chose not to take it)
493(woulda been glad to help him with it if he had reported what the target -was-)
494(As far as kevin knows he got eaten by an ooze)
495(Which only reinforces his desire not to go down that tunnel)
496Wizzzargh (GM): Let's consult the rumor chart to see if there's any relevant tips..
497Kevin Garvok: (brb a minute or 5)
498(back)
499(So how do i consult the rumor chart?)
500(Kevin wants to learn more about the wand but is hesitent to let anyone know he has it)
501Wizzzargh (GM): Oh, I was mainly checking to see if there were any relevant witchly rumours
502roll 1d47
503Kevin Garvok: rolling 1d47 (basically looking for information on how to use the wand)
504(
50526
506)
507= 26
508Wizzzargh (GM): You learn that while there are no known sorcerers in Limedike, there are rumored to be men and women who seek the old chaotic magic among the wasteland hills, burial mounds, and ruins to the southwest.
509Kevin Garvok: (let me know when your ready to continue)
510Wizzzargh (GM): Will do, we'll call it a 2 hour break
511if people show up earlier we'll start earlier
512Kevin Garvok: (k)
513Wizzzargh (GM): we'll be starting up again in an our or somaha
514*hour or so, maha
515Kairi (mahae.): ok gives me time to eat
516Kevin Garvok: (got some people on.. maybe we might actually finish getting the cannon logistics sorted out?)
517Charles P.: Hey
518Kairi (mahae.): hey
519Charles P.: What's up with Kairi lately.
520?*
521Kairi (mahae.): what ya mean
522Charles P.: Got any PC goals? I'm sorta trying to feel out what our session will be, since wizz isn't due for a bit.
523Zeven K.: Albert wants to cure his brother.
524Kairi: stay alive
525Zeven K.: to do it he wants ingredients from the great rot to make medicine
526that too of course.
527as for my other character i usually play as when theres fewer party members.
528Kairi: we'll get the goods
529Zeven K.: kevin just wants to become a badass
530and survive the goons coming for his head
531or in short. leveling up.
532(but hey. L1 dudes got it rough being able to die in 1 solid hit)
533Kairi: yea
534Zeven K.: (i can kinda get why most sane people dont become adventurers)
535(since they'd probably be L1 to start out and most o em would get pwned easily)
536(And there smart enough to realize how dangerous the job is. and that there not properly trained/qualifyed to be able to handle it)
537Charles P.: Well then, sounds like we're headed to the rot, since my guy will be brand spankin new with no obvious goals.
538Zeven K.: (Unless there henchmen, but hey theres always the option of runnin away in a panic if its too much)
539(honestly being a hench person sounds like a Terrible job)
540Charles P.: My new char is Samuel the barrister. +2 to reaction checks.
541He dresses sharp.
542Money 5 sp
543Rumor.
54445
545Wizzzargh (GM): aight, b
546Rumor-The Pearly Corkscrew, to the east of Feide, drills up and down, varying in height based on moonlight.
547Charles P.: Sounds nice. We're headed to the rot.
548Zeven K.: (so how does the melted stove man the cannons and etc go?.)
549(we sell that n get stuff right?)
550Wizzzargh (GM): I thought the plan was to take 'em back to the mansion
551Charles P.: Yeah, we should do that.
552Albert Beldrith: (i dono. i thought 1 was taken there at least but others sold?. but what ever)
553(while we are in town Albert will want to buy supplies)
554Kairi: when did the plan change?
555Albert Beldrith: (to make a modified plauge doctor suit)
556Wizzzargh (GM): Hmmm, well, I think Beat may have wanted a cannon
557In any case, 3 cannons and 3 of you
558if you'd like to sell it, get 3GP
559The remaining Cannon that's Beatrices's share will be kept in limbo for now
560Albert Beldrith: (Up to the rest of the party)
561(i dont totally recall the specifics. just that the loot was valuble)
562(but we dont exactly have cannon ammo or powder right?)
563Charles P.: The plan was to keep them.
564Wizzzargh (GM): Right, gotta wait for the skull market to buy those
565Albert Beldrith: (What do i deduct for the plauge doctor suit materials?)
566Wizzzargh (GM): Since it's only materials, I'd say the price is in copper
567Albert Beldrith: (i need leather, glass, wax, herbs, Fabric. thread. and a needle)
568Wizzzargh (GM): Incense will be a separate purchase since that's a consumable thing
569Albert Beldrith: (so 7 5 3 5 6 7 7 copper right?)
570Wizzzargh (GM): yup
571Albert Beldrith: (ill be trying to make my own home made incense)
572(or incense substitute rather)
573Wizzzargh (GM): Random nice smelling herbs then. What's the plan to get to the great rot
574Albert Beldrith: (Fly up in the canoe to retreive the other one only to realize its broken then come back down to think up a new plan)
575Wizzzargh (GM): It's easy enough to walk to since it's so tall, but maybe you wanted to bring a bat boat?
576Albert Beldrith: (because we cant use 2 canoes anymore)
577"can i borrow 11 cp?."
578"i need it for materials."
579"for 40 cp and some time i can make you something to help protect you against rot."
580Charles P.: On second thought, I'm just gonna call it a night. I didn't end up getting the day off toaday and I have yet more work tommorow. I might be available from 6-3 tommorow, if I have that glorious weekend workload of "nothing." Cya.
581Albert Beldrith: "i figure its a good idea where we will be going..."
582Wizzzargh (GM): Curse you, work
583A night cycle has come! Be sure to stock up on a slot of oil or 10 torches if you plan to travel through the starry darkness.
584Albert Beldrith: (Good idea.)
585Wizzzargh (GM): It's never certain how long they'll last, after all, though usually it's only about 12 hours.
586In anycase, would you like to travel in the night, or wait for it to pass.
587Albert Beldrith: (i dont have the supplies to travel at night so.)
588(unless another party member wants ot help with that)
589(i gotta wait)
590Wizzzargh (GM): Aight, you wait for it to pass. It's only 5 hours before the sky regains its sunset hue thanks to the sun hanging on the horizon.
591It will likely take 36 hours to reach the great rot, so buying some rations might be handy too...
592But either way, away you go
593Albert Beldrith: (i had to not get wax and fabric and thread. so ill need to borrow those things from the mansion to make the plauge doctor suit)
594Wizzzargh (GM): Oh, so will you head there firest?
595Albert Beldrith: (actually they probly have a needle there too)
596Wizzzargh (GM): *first
597Albert Beldrith: 3 6 7 7 so 23 deduction meaning 17 spent
598(but yea. )
599(We need to go there first so i can finish the plauge doctor suit)
600The trip to the mansion is uneventful, though the lands around Annu Nki and the mountains are still frozen and snowy. Smoke rises from Annu Nki- perhaps the rehdrated husks are burning wood to keep warm?
601Albert Beldrith works to create the modified plauge doctor suit. (in such a way that it can fit under the armor)
602Albert Beldrith: (Also is there any vinegar?)
603(i need tree sap and vinegar to go with the herbs for the incense substitute attempt)
604Wizzzargh (GM): There's not really room for it under the armor- over the armor is possible, though bulky.
605Albert Beldrith: (the leather is not that thick.)
606(it would probably be uncomfortable but it should be able to fit.)
607(the main annoyance is the mask)
608(that would probably not fit with the helmet)
609(i imagine this may increase the armor penalty)
610Wizzzargh (GM): There's really not room
611Under plate mail theres already special padding and such
612Albert Beldrith: (ok we'll have to take that apart a little then)
613(and make the plauge doctor suit part of the armor)
614(part of the padding layer that exists in there already)
615Wizzzargh (GM): Aight, this has become very complex
616gimme an artificing roll
617Albert Beldrith attempts to get the help of some of the people in the mansion
618Wizzzargh (GM): No one really has the appropriate knowhow for this, unfortunately
619Albert Beldrith: (1d8+2 right?)
620(thats ok they just need to hold some things)
621(and act as extra hands)
622(while Albert does the complicated part)
623Wizzzargh (GM): I mean, that'll speed it up
624but this is highly skill and knowledge based
625the assistance they can provide is not enough to merit the d8- they could be replaced by scaffolding and rope
626Albert Beldrith: (doesnt another pc have tinkering?)
627(could i get their help?)
628Wizzzargh (GM): Derf does
629Albert Beldrith: (that might be enough to assist right?)
630Wizzzargh (GM): But he (or his player) isn't around
631Albert Beldrith: (who is his player again?)
632Wizzzargh (GM): Micael S
633Albert Beldrith: (k well alberts not going to the great rot alone so lets leave him on pause for now)
634(and switch back to kevin)
635(since i made him for the more dangerous solo stuff)
636(or smaller groups)
637Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, we seem to have lost the reinforcements
638Albert Beldrith: (oh hey)
639(Player just msg'd on discord)
640(With a yes)
641Wizzzargh (GM): O, wasn't expecting that
642aight, go for it then, Derf is good with this sort of thing
643Albert Beldrith: (so with derfs help 1d8+2 right?)
644Wizzzargh (GM): yup
645Albert Beldrith: rolling 1d8+2
646(
6478
648)
649+2
650= 10
651Wizzzargh (GM): Wabam
652You've crafted Heavy Plague Doctor Armor, and deem it a great success
653it's heavy armor+ you think it should keep you safe from being colonized by fungal spores
654No extra penalties, and no need to roll if you craft it again
655Albert Beldrith: (cool)
656Wizzzargh (GM): But meanwhile, back in Limedike
657Tub never returns from the sewers, so Kevin and Obo are on their own.
658Kevin Garvok: "Alright, lets go again."
659"kinda wish we'd found more folks to help us deal with that roving gang. but we can avoid em."
660"hmm."
661Kevin Garvok begins to ponder the use of traps
662Kevin Garvok is pretty sure the polemen had to cross through that gated area
663Kevin Garvok wonders if there would be a way to kill alot of them with a trap
664Kevin Garvok: (is the floor around there stone or dirt?)
665Wizzzargh (GM): Brick.
666Kevin Garvok: (the pots normally just sit on the floor?)
667(or were they suspended by chains?)
668Wizzzargh (GM): Oh, you meant the the area where the pots were?
669That actually is dirt
670Kevin Garvok: (Great. whats the price of beartraps?)
671Wizzzargh (GM): I assumed gated area meant 'grated' area
672Kevin Garvok: (also we'll need a shovel.)
673Wizzzargh (GM): Silver for beartraps, copper for shovel
674Might wanna go with 'Rusty Beartrap' to cut the price down to 3 silver
675Kevin Garvok: (Rusty beartrap it is.)
676(bunch of em.)
677(Also going to need latern oil and Flint)
678Wizzzargh (GM): They do take an inventory slot each, but Obo could carry some
679Oil is 3c
680flints are an item you're assumed to carry
681along with waterskins
682Kevin Garvok: (my plan is this.)
683Wizzzargh (GM): since not having one could easily spell death
684Kevin Garvok: (Dig shallow trenchs where the patrols footprints are common at.)
685(hide the beartraps in those spots. and put oil flasks in the jaws.)
686(attach flint to the mechanism)
687(then burry it gently to not trigger it)
688(but hide it completely from veiw)
689Wizzzargh (GM): so then they'll be trapped in burning oil
690nasty
691Kevin Garvok: (so when the patrol comes by they step in it. trigger it. the snapping breaks the oil containers and snaps the flint)
692(and -holds- them there)
693(because its secured to the ground)
694(yea)
695(and if they try to pry it loose its hot metal)
696(soaked in burning oil)
697Kevin Garvok: (So their friends may be less inclined to try n help free em)
698(As they'd get burned doing it)
699(Also whats the price of a lock and maybe chain?)
700(i figure if i can sneak behind them and bar them in the area full of traps)
701Wizzzargh (GM): Lock is 4s, chain is 5s for 50 feet
702Kevin Garvok: (they'd be forced to go across to proceed out)
703(i could hide in a pot. they have lids right?)
704Wizzzargh (GM): If you just needed a chain to lock a grate shut, 1s would be plenty
705Yup
706Kevin Garvok: (so 1S for 10 foot chain. 4S for lock. shovel is 6 cp. now how much would the fire beartraps cost?)
707Wizzzargh (GM): flints are free, so oil+rusty beartrap is 3s+3c, or 33c if you'd rather
708Kevin Garvok: (k so 33 cp per trap. )
709Wizzzargh (GM): btw kairi you don't have to whisper all the time
710Kevin Garvok: (how big is the room?)
711Wizzzargh (GM): Kevin won't even know you're here if you do!
712It's not too large- a circular, uneven chamber about 30 feet across
713Kairi (mahae.): (no one ever does btw
714Kevin Garvok: (so thats atleast 6 traps needed. )
715(but theres often 9 of them)
716(hmm.)
717(i need something more...)
718(Ah.... diversions.)
719(are smoke bombs buyable?)
720Wizzzargh (GM): they are not
721I mean, in this town anyway
722I imagine a more cosmopolitan city might have such things
723Kevin Garvok: (guess we'll have to make due with a less instant one.)
724(large sack of shreaded bark and tree sap mixed with oil)
725(how high is the ceiling?)
726Wizzzargh (GM): low, 8 feet tops
727less if you count the dangling roots
728Kevin Garvok: (now the question is how to light the sacks of smoke making material...)
729(oil soaked twine as a fuse perhaps....) run it along the ceiling...)
730(suspend the sack with the same stuff so as it burns away it also drops it.)
731(smoke Everywhere to obscure vision so i can have a run to the exit with out them noticing me.)
732(the exit out..)
733(does it have a gate or grate?)
734Kevin Garvok: (or some blockable with chain n lock passage?)
735(if i can force em into the catacombs maybe i could pick em off if i can freak em out into scattering)
736Wizzzargh (GM): You could potentially collapse the exit tunnel
737Then there is a grate down to the south
738Kevin Garvok: (how would it be collapsed?)
739Wizzzargh (GM): Just working at it with a shovel for a few hours
740Kevin Garvok: (could we -almost- collapse it but set up a flimsy support beam that gets pulled loose on a trip wire?)
741(well to be honest it would probably me less a wire)
742(and more of a rope in a trench with a bit of cloth or leather or something over it and dirt ontop of that)
743Wizzzargh (GM): You're not sure- when I said you could collapse it, I mainly meant 'you can dig until it gives way'
744need a roll to correctly gauge the soil and the support beam
745Zeven K.: (k so you said its 30 feet. the room i mean.)
746(how much would it cost for 50 feet of twine?)
747Wizzzargh (GM): 5c
748rope, string, etc has a 'default length' of 50 feet
749Zeven K.: (is that the same for rope in cost?)
750(or was rope 4 cp? or was rope sp?)
751(i forget)
752(its 198 for the 6 fire traps)
753(or basically 2 gold.)
754(the sack is probably 4 cp each.)
755Wizzzargh (GM): rope sp
756Zeven K.: (Ok so 4 sp for the rope)
757(and 3 sp for an axe?)
758(Ok.)
759Kevin Garvok: (i mean if ima die anyways i may as well blow my money doing something cool)
760(and this could pay its self back in loot and equipment if it works well)
761Kevin Garvok buys abunch of things
762Kevin Garvok has obo help go out to a tree and hack it up with an axe
763Kevin Garvok fills 2 sacks with treebark bits and sap and leafs an misc free junk that makes lots of smoke when burned
764Kevin Garvok moves the support beam made of tree with obo's help
765Kevin Garvok forgot to do scouting work so we end up having to move it into the catacombs
766Kevin Garvok: (wait nvm. no need)
767"ok obo. heres the plan."
768"Were going to make a big Deathtrap."
769(actually need or not its a good backup plan)
770(so we should scout it out regardless )
771"firetrap lines in the floor hidden by dirt."
772Kevin Garvok: "a collapse trap with that large chunk of lumber we hauled here to hold the collapse off till its time."
773"ill hide in a pot and when they scream in pain from the fire. you Light the Twine and run out the exit."
774" ill jump out and try to lock them in. then flee into the catacombs."
775Obo: One of the pots in the room with the fire?
776Kevin Garvok: "if they chase after you they hit the collapse trap"
777"probly bury themselves"
778Obo: Well, jump out quick before you cook, is all I can say
779Kevin Garvok: "yea but its 30 feet wide"
780"as long as we set the traps properly i wont be the one standing in oil"
781"the last bit of the plan tho. my way out."
782"i see two options."
783"and id like to have both open"
784"since the collapse trap will likely be triggered by them."
785Kevin Garvok: "i can either go out the grate"
786"or find a way through the catacombs"
787"im guessing they will be too surprised by my jump outa a pot to attack immediately so ill have some time"
788"which you lighting the twine will help me alot cause"
789"you fill the room with smoke."
790"make it hard for them to see me."
791Kevin Garvok: "thats what the sacks of misc tree bits and sap n such are for"
792"the smoke"
793"anyways if we cut off their route back with a lock and their way out to town with a cave in trap"
794"then any survivors will only have the catacombs as an exit"
795"im a little hesitent to go back to their hideout tho"
796"there may be more and i dont want boxed in"
797Kevin Garvok: "Thats why we scout the other tunnels before we pull this off"
798"if this works though theres guna be Alot of dead goons"
799Wizzzargh (GM): So only the tunnel will be set up for now, right
800roll a d8
801Kevin Garvok: (not yet. we hide the log in the catacombs)
802Wizzzargh (GM): AH, ok
803Kevin Garvok: (We need to find an alt escape route incase the tunnel go's poorly)
804(and we need a way out)
805Wizzzargh (GM): then where will you explore
806Kevin Garvok: (this spot. it leads to the rich city right?)
807(or.. basically north east?)
808(what ever. this tunnel.)
809(not the doll maker one)
810Wizzzargh (GM): That's what Obo theorized, I believe
811Oh wait no,
812The north WEST one should lead that way
813Kevin Garvok: (What was his theory on this one?)
814(well if obo doesnt think this one is dangerous or unlikely to let us get to the surface we'll explore it)
815Wizzzargh (GM): Fruitlessly was reading the chatlog
816He thinks the other tunnels should 'end' as they're near the edge of the city
817Kevin Garvok: (k we'll explore this one then)
818You explore thataways, and come to a large chamber, perhaps the old catacombs of some noble. It looks to have been refurbished into a living chamber of sorts though,
819Kevin Garvok listens for movement
820Wizzzargh (GM): No need, you can see it is currently occupied
821Past the open sarcophagus with bedding spilling out of it, there is a collection of tables covered with roots and bones. An old man in ragged clothes sits at a table, weaving the roots together into ropes by candlelight.
822Kevin Garvok trys to sneak back the way he came
823The old man shouts hoarsely "who's there!"
824Wizzzargh (GM): Maybe he saw your torchlight before you snuck around the corner...
825Either way, you don't have line of sight to each other at the moment.
826Kevin Garvok: ".. Kevin"
827"im just looking for an exit"
828"did not mean to bother you"
829"who are you?"
830Old Man: Oh is that all... well, be off with you, then, before you really do bother me.
831Head south and east, you'll find your way out soon enough.
832Kevin Garvok: "Alright. i may come back for a more proper visit later if the polemen dont murder me."
833"should i bring tea?"
834Old Man: Hrmph... I'd rather an unopened bottle of wine.
835Kevin Garvok: "alright ill keep it in mind."
836Old Man: Be off with you now, this is no place to linger.
837Kevin Garvok leaves
838Kevin Garvok decides to try the castle one next
839Kevin Garvok is more slow and cautious
840Wizzzargh (GM): The bricks are in better repair here, and you come perpendicularly into a hallway that runs NE and SW
841There looks to be gouges in the walls, more to the SW than the NE.
842Kevin Garvok: (NE)
843Kevin Garvok very slowly and quietly proceeds.
844Kevin Garvok checks the walls for signs of oozes
845Wizzzargh (GM): None, as far as you can tell
846A sewer chamber where sewage runs from several flow points down a grate in the center.
847Wizzzargh (GM): There is a locked grate, beyond which a hallway heads W, and an unblocked hall leading E. Both have streams of sewage running down the center.
848There are words scrawled in black paint on the W wall- TURN BACK
849Kevin Garvok turns back
850Kevin Garvok heads to the Center tunnel with the scare bones
851Wizzzargh (GM): This room is supported by 6 hefty stone pillars. Sewage glows from ceiling grates. You can see several old skeletons strung up on vines on the pillars here.
852Kevin Garvok turns back and uses knife to scratch "Danger Ahead. turn back" into the wall
853Kevin Garvok does this for the tunnel to the old man as well
854Kevin Garvok takes the time to leave a trail of "This Way to Exit =>" markings
855Kevin Garvok: (leading NOT to the exit)
856(but to the sewer where he thinks an ooze lives)
857(the place Tub vanished in)
858(he figures it will mislead surviving polemen)
859Kevin Garvok ensures theres a couple open coffins he can hide in if he gets chased down here
860Kevin Garvok uses the dead bodies to lay around the paths to the dollmaker place to make it look dangerous
861Kevin Garvok attempts to pose them as if they were murdered by something
862Wizzzargh (GM): Alright, you've spent a good few hours exploring and planting the trails and false leads
863Kevin Garvok checks this trail next for a proper exit
864Wizzzargh (GM): The stairs up lead to an old abandoned building that's been boarded up.
865Kevin Garvok: "perfect."
866Kevin Garvok writes one last DANGER in big letters next the enterance
867Kevin Garvok then heads back
868Kevin Garvok listens to make sure the patrol is not near
869Kevin Garvok then proceeds to try and setup the collapse trap
870Wizzzargh (GM): 1d8
871Kevin Garvok: rolling 1d8
872(
8735
874)
875= 5
876Wizzzargh (GM): It doesn't collapse early, and you're sure it'll collapse properly when you pull the trigger
877Kevin Garvok: (technically it can also be triggered by polemen unwittingly pulling the trigger too!)
878(Trench. thin wood from the containers the toymaker had. Rope. dirt ontop the wood to hide it. they step on the wood it breaks under their weight it pulls the rope by stepping on it)
879(rope pulls key point of the beam)
880Wizzzargh (GM): And I suppose Obo is the 'cover my escape with it' if necessary
881Kevin Garvok: (yup!)
882(he can cover his escape with it too by pulling the rope from farther up)
883(the idea is to try and make it collapse -on- polemen)
884Wizzzargh (GM): incidentally, you will probably want to hold a candle inside the pot , and possibly have a torch of your own to light in the flames
885Kevin Garvok: (or atleast infront of them)
886(yea.)
887Kevin Garvok sets up the 2 sacks and has obo get us more oil to put in the backs so when they crash down they will make large oil puddles to light
888Kevin Garvok ties them to the twine and runs it along the roots in the ceiling to obo's position
889Kevin Garvok: (so he can trigger it)
890(he will need a torch for that and we'll have to soak it in oil.)
891(we can use the oil obo brings back. )
892(30 more cp on oil)
893Wizzzargh (GM): Obo returns wladen with heavy flasks of oil
894Kevin Garvok: (ok maybe not 30. id have to split another gold)
895(18)
896Wizzzargh (GM): Pretty much just in time to hear what you suspect is the patrl coming from the south
897Kevin Garvok: (its all used in the trap tho)
898(We already set the fire traps right?)
899Wizzzargh (GM): The beartraps yes, and it shouldn't take too long to stuff oil into the smokesacks
900Kevin Garvok stuffs oil into smoke sacks and grabs a candle then hides in the pot
901Kevin Garvok: (ill take obo's torch too. trade him a lit candle)
902(dont want light giving his position away)
903(and luring danger to him)
904Wizzzargh (GM): He's heading to the surface pretty soon anyway, works for him
905Aight, you wait in the pot for the sound of polemen triggering your elaborate trap
906Kevin Garvok has both pistols ready and hides in the pot with a candle
907Wizzzargh (GM): 6
90851
909Kevin Garvok puts 1 pistol back n gets the chain with lock ready
910You hear them enter the room, some 'muttering as they see some of the setup, and then snaps and howls and roaring flames- sounds like a good few of the traps went off.
911Kevin Garvok: (do i hear the crash of the sacks?)
912Wizzzargh (GM): Yup
913Kevin Garvok bursts out of the pot
914Kevin Garvok: (now.. if the oil pools block the way back to the grate)
915(ill rush to the catacombs)
916(if they dont ill rush to the grate to lock it)
917(there should be plenty of smoke to hide me)
918Wizzzargh (GM): The flaming oil pools do not block the route. Indeed, the place is a blazing hell of smoke and confusion- even if they did spot you, they may mistake you for one of their own.
919Kevin Garvok rushs over and wraps the chain then locks it
920Kevin Garvok rushs for the catacomb exit
921Wizzzargh (GM): Some of them are also rushing back to the grate, turns out, and you collide with 'em in the hallway.
922Kevin Garvok: (Did i manage to lock it?)
923(before running into em?)
924Wizzzargh (GM): You did
925Kevin Garvok: (which would be faster?)
926(shooting the guy or getting up and running?)
927Wizzzargh (GM): There's 2 of em, so probably just getting up and running
928Kevin Garvok gets up and runs for the catacomb exit
929Kevin Garvok runs for life
930Wizzzargh (GM): They were trying to get past you, not fight, so there's no problem. You hear several small explosions as you charge through the smoke-choked room, being careful not to accidentally charge into the trapped tunnel...
931Kevin Garvok: (Yup good thing i memorized their positions!)
932Wizzzargh (GM): Then you're in the catacombs, eyes watering and wheezing from the smoke.
933Kevin Garvok: (n my safe route out)
934Kevin Garvok turns a corner and stops to breath the less bad air
935Kevin Garvok listens for polemen
936Kevin Garvok gets another pistol in hand
937Kevin Garvok rests a short while listening down the tunnel
938Wizzzargh (GM): You hear the sound of collapse echoing, and suddenly there's more smoke billowing into the catacombs before.
939Kevin Garvok grins even as he catchs his breath
940Wizzzargh (GM): FInally you hear a single set of footsteps limping east- along your false trail of 'this way to exit' you left
941*wesst
942Kevin Garvok: (just one?)
943Wizzzargh (GM): Sounds like
944Kevin Garvok slowly trys to stalk them. attempting to walk in a way where they lower their feet down slowly so it does not make much of an impact or sound on the ground
945Kevin Garvok trys -not- to catch sight of them but to remain in hearing distance
946Wizzzargh (GM): WIth your armor, you think you'll either give yourself away with clinks or your tread, or move so slowly that you won't be able to keep near them at all...
947But if you're just making sure they're heading to ooze territory, that distance should be fine
948Kevin Garvok: (yea i just wana make sure there going to ooze territory)
949(then i wana get up next to the enterance and listen)
950(to try and hear them)
951(and any echo'ing pistol shots)
952Wizzzargh (GM): They definitely headed into the series of tunnels and ducts
953No sound of pistol shots though
954Kevin Garvok: (no other sounds?)
955(screams. ?)
956Wizzzargh (GM): You can hear clanging as they navigated the grated ducts, but no sounds of combat, it seems
957Kevin Garvok trys to determine if he could catch the limping guy
958Kevin Garvok: (if mr scumbag made it by safe)
959(the ooze is probly not here right now)
960Wizzzargh (GM): You could catch up
961just not stealthily
962Kevin Garvok attempts to catch up
963Kevin Garvok makes sure mask is on properly
964Kevin Garvok duel wields pistols
965Kevin Garvok: (2 pistols vs a limping guy.)
966(i like them odds)
967Wizzzargh (GM): You jog through the area, squeeze through the tunnels, and drop your torch, which goes out in the sewage. The polemen at the end of the 3rd tunnel has a torch himself, so there's no risk of being exposed to pitch blackness at the moment. as of this moment
968He whirls at the sound of your approach, and you probably fire pistols at each other simultaneously
969Assumign you're trying to take him down ASAP I assume
970Kevin Garvok: (do i roll two attacks for two pistols?)
971Wizzzargh (GM): Nah, you can only fire 1 at a time
972they take a while to reload though
973Kevin Garvok: rolling 1d20
974(
9756
976)
977= 6
978Wizzzargh (GM): so dual-wielding does make sense
97916
980Kevin Garvok: (Shit.)
981(i shoulda let enough be enough)
982Wizzzargh (GM): Blast! His superior expertise let him fire first, knocking off your aim... 9 damage
983Kevin Garvok: (n looted the dead)
984(i dont even know what my hp is)
985rolling 1d8
986(
9875
988)
989= 5
990Wizzzargh (GM): Roll 1d8If it makes you feel any bett
991death save at -4
992Kevin Garvok: rolling 1d20-4
993(
9949
995)
996-4
997= 5
998(welp there go's kevin)
999Wizzzargh (GM): sad trombone noise
1000If it makes you feel any better
1001their pistols/ammunition mostly exploded
1002so the looting woulda been fairly weak
1003Kevin Garvok: (what i learned: As fun as fighting is. its not worth it.)
1004Wizzzargh (GM): Yup
1005Kevin Garvok: (Get the stuff that lvls you up. then get out.)
1006(if you do fight. be clever)
1007Wizzzargh (GM): A good lesson to learn with a 'throwaway' character
1008Kevin Garvok: (it works wonders)
1009Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, I liked those traps
1010Kevin Garvok: (i took down 5 guys with out getting hurt)
1011(but i track 1 limping dude down)
1012(i die from pistol)
1013Wizzzargh (GM): Polemen are extra bad cuz of massive pistol damage too
1014Well, if you need another throwaway character
1015Obo is a likely candidate
1016Kevin Garvok: (Lol)
1017(maybe. but why would he choose the life of adventuring)
1018Wizzzargh (GM): WHo knows
1019Kevin Garvok: (when his former employer got killed?)
1020Wizzzargh (GM): He'd be your character so you could make up a reason
1021maybe he wants vengeance on the polemen for slaying the only person who's bought him a drink in 20 years
1022Kevin Garvok: (Lol.)
1023(Ok sure.)
1024(besides...)
1025(His former boss -did- get rich..)
1026(Gold. )
1027(All that money.)
1028Kevin Garvok: (and he was fighting clever.)
1029(obo himself may have even taken down some polemen already with the trap)
1030(He might be inspired by that to become some one who fights with traps.)
1031(or sneaks about?)
1032Wizzzargh (GM): He certainly doesn't seem like the frontline fighter type from what little we've seen, yeah
1033Kevin Garvok: (Fight like a coward.)
1034(he'd know the location of the building too)
1035(since he traveled there)
1036(with Kevin)
1037Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, that's why turning hirelings into replacement PCs is nice
1038they're already full of info
1039Kevin Garvok: (and with that in mind. and remembering how rich kevin got after hiring him)
1040(Obo's guna get a hireling)
1041(so hows +2 to Stealth sound?)
1042Wizzzargh (GM): THat's a good 'un
1043Obo's used to staying beneath notice of guards and other mugging-inclined homeless
1044He gets starting equipment as usual- assume he looted it from the polemen he slew
1045Kevin Garvok: (Sure. can he start with a working pistol n some ammo?)
1046(the ones who get crushed to death probly did not burn as much)
1047Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, lets say 1 weapon slot is the pistol and the other is 3 shos
1048*shots
1049Kevin Garvok: (k but the pistol is loaded still because the pole man never fired it)
1050(also he still has the axe n shovel!)
1051(that kevin got)
1052(For him to deal with the trap making)
1053rolling 1d6
1054(
10551
1056)
1057= 1
1058(and his pay of 3+1 bonus cp in addition to his meager 10 starter cp yea?)
1059Wizzzargh (GM): yup
1060Kevin Garvok: (what armor did he get off the poleman?.
1061Wizzzargh (GM): Anything you want, we'll say it was a poleman squad captain or something
1062normally they just have shirts though
1063and if you wanted to be REAL stealthy
1064Obo: (what do the captains typically wear?)
1065Wizzzargh (GM): unarmored would be the way to go
1066Medium or light armor
1067Obo: rolling 1d2
1068(
10692
1070)
1071= 2
1072(medium but instead of wearing it he'll sell it)
1073(and go unarmored)
1074(armor didn't save his boss)
1075(and its easier to run and sneak with out armor)
1076Wizzzargh (GM): starting armor is assuming to be somewhat shoddy, so it's worth 1/10th price instead of 1/2th
1077Obo: (Still guna sell it)
1078Wizzzargh (GM): The dude dig get half burned to death then crushed after all.. aight, a meager 10c then
1079Obo heads to the abandoned boarded up building
1080Obo: (what does obo know about it?)
1081(now that he has a good look from the outside instead of just the inside?)
1082Wizzzargh (GM): Was an old shop+ home
1083Obo is from around here, he probably recognizes it as the toymakers that went out of business
1084the building is in good shape, but is abandoned because it's rumored to be haunted
1085Obo: (since obo is a hobo im guessing he has no home of his own)
1086Wizzzargh (GM): There, your starting rumor
1087yeah
1088Obo: (might make a good place to live if the haunted turns out to be false)
1089(since everybody else would keep away)
1090(and thus not drive him out)
1091Obo looks for a way in
1092Wizzzargh (GM): Removing some boards on a window or door is the only way.
1093Obo trys to use shovel to pry some window boards off
1094Obo: (preferably in an alley where he cant be seen doing it)
1095Wizzzargh (GM): THis part of town is practically a ghost district
1096even if someone did see, they'd not be likely to care
1097Obo: (True but no sense giving them the impression anything valuble is in there)
1098(do i roll 1d6? )
1099(or does it just auto work?)
1100Wizzzargh (GM): For getting in the house?
1101Obo: (yea)
1102Wizzzargh (GM): Yeah, there's not much at stake here
1103no need to roll
1104Obo attempts to hammer the nails out with the shovel and then hammer them back in differently to make a "false boarded up" thing that can be put into the window
1105Wizzzargh (GM): also I'm thinking this is a good place to call session so
1106Obo: (basically it makes it look boarded up. but its really just a thing of wood)
1107Wizzzargh (GM): gg, gn
1108Obo: (with boards sticking into the window)
1109(to hold it there)
1110(you can just pull on it)
1111(and it comes out)
1112(but people would likely assume its boarded up)
1113(if they looked at it from outside)
1114Obo: (and ok. cya later)
1115(whens next game?)
