This is the companion text to the "Astrologia Ephemura - Shangrila" found here: https://imgur.com/a/cjCVdp5

The Astrologia has been compiled using IC resources, interviews, and discussions with learned parties with regard to the night sky of Shangrila. The stars of the realm are figments of the memories of the souls that have come to inhabit the realm, which is to say there is really nothing there, but "we" expect there to be stars and so therefore there are. Oblivion is a server with nothing written to it unless we write it.

Which brings us to the writing of this text. Long ago it was determined that there were stars in the night sky and that these stars could be grouped into constellations. These constellations are where we get the names for the main ruling houses of the realm. Centaurus, Pegasus, Hydra, Serpens, and Scorpius are our ruling houses. Conversely we have ruling houses therefore we have constellations, ToMAYto - ToMAto. Additionally we have The Temple as the religious body that services Oblivion. Lastly we have several minor entities such as the Oriental Enclave which this book is most closely associated. What follows is both anchored to canon references: Such as April - June being the standard time of year for the Sealed Times or August - September being the start of the school year, as well as items of interest to the Oriental Enclave for Astrological Prognostication: Conjunctions, occultations, alignments, etc. Please read at your hearts content, use or don't use, this is presented for your enjoyment as well as reference material for the White Ministry of the Oriental Enclave.

The Realm

The realm is a floating object outside of normal scientific constraints. It is difficult to determine if the surface we live on is a sphere, flat, or as most theorize outside of the bounds of normal geometry. What can be observed is night and day, gravity, tides, seasons, and the non-rotational aspect of the stars.

This is to say the constellations appear to be static in their locations in the night sky. This has been observed and recorded by Xu-Wiang Hsu First court astrologer and compiler of the "Fúyóu zhanxing shù" or ephemera astrologia of the realm. This fact is important as it provides us with no "Precession of the Stars" students of Astrology from other worlds might be familiar with the terms "Ages" as in the "Age of Aquarius" An astrological age is a time period in astrologic theology which marks major changes in the development of the inhabitants, particularly relative to culture, society, and politics. There are twelve astrological ages on Earth Prime corresponding to the twelve zodiacal signs in western astrology. One cycle of the twelve astrological ages is completed every 25,860 years.

This is not the case in Eastern or Chinese astrology which has a close relation with our philosophy: There is harmony when heaven, earth, and water are in balance. We use the principles of yin and yang and other concepts which are not found in Western astrology. Our beloved ancestor Xu-Wiang Hsu has taught us the the 8 Celestial truths, the 3 spheres of influence, and the importance of the lunisolar calendar: The calendar of the conjunctions of the moons and of Sol. The time calculation for each year, month, day, and the weight the "shichen" of these calculations along with the insight provided by science and magicks of the realm provide us with a system unique to our beloved realm of Oblivion.

Father Xu-Wiang Hsu's work only spanned three years of study. We do not know why his records end abruptly in year 13 but his ephemera has proven to be a "Rosetta Stone" of sorts in determining the static nature of the heavens above. We can say with certainty due to those three years of data from the very first years of our civilization being in this realm the skies above have not changed from his time.

To make these claims, however, we look to scientific data for support.

Night and Day:Báitian hé heiyè de xúnhuán.

In a standard model night and day are generated by a rotational globe spinning in space so that a portion of the globe is either facing the sun or facing away from it. Because we can observe that the constellations do not move, or rather our point of view towards the constellations does not shift or move year after year we can theorize that our realm is not heliocentric. Heliocentrism is the astronomical model in which our realm and the moons would revolve around Sol at the center of the Solar System. Due to what we can observe we can more easily explain the nature of our realm as geocentric, which places us at the center. In short we do not revolve around the sun, it and the moons revolve around us. This theory can be found in several volumes on the realm in the various libraries across the realm, particularly the University Library.

This does create a curious effect with regard to the cycle of day and night and may have much further and subtle reaching effects such as a compression of time as well as speeding up of events. This phenomenon is not directly observable from within the realm however as we are all effected equally by the passing of time. Individuals who have travelled outside of the realm on Caravans however have noted upon their return that time has passed by at a different rate. Travelers who have left for a weekend to Miami return to find that they have in fact, within the realm, been gone for a week or more.

Gravity: Zhònglì.
We have gravity therefore the realm must spin, though there are other explanations for this, Oblivion makes it so, but the most obvious is that some basic rules of nature and physics still apply to the realm. Rotation would provide gravity as well as the cycle of day and night báitian hé heiyè de xúnhuán. Spinning also produces several different effects with regard to sun and moon retrogrades. An apparent retrograde motion is when the motion of a heavenly object such as Sol or the Moons appear to be traveling across the sky in a direction opposite to that of other bodies within the system, as observed from our vantage point on the realm. This is very easy to observe with regard to the static backdrop of the night sky though is sometimes not noticed in the motion of Sol during the day as the stars are not present for reference points. Again, using Occam's Razor: Or the law of simplicity. We have multiple different possibilities in a realm guided by religion and Magick so when presented with competing hypotheses that make the same predictions, one should select the solution with the fewest assumptions. Our realm most likely spins perfectly on it's axis which provides gravity as well as a stable point of view towards the observable sky.

Tides: Biaotí.

Tides are influences by both Grande et le Petite Yuèliàng, moons. Wèn yuèliàng, Luna Petite, or more colquially, Xiao or "Tiny" actually has a stronger effect on the tides than does Luna Grande Bianfú Yuèliàng, or the Fat moon, due to the proximity of it's orbit to the realm. When the moons are in alignment, which can be calculated from the ephemera presented in this book, the tides can be exceptionally strong. Babies born in the Oblivion sky when the moons are in conjunction are born under highly auspicious circumstances. Babies born in Oblivion when the moons, and the sun are in conjunction are to be feared and praised. This has only occured once in the history of the realm and subsequent efforts to use standard astrological methods to calculate the next time this event will occur have met with several rather slippery and diverse answers for any one to be seen as credible.

Tidal Forces:
Month Percentage Petite Grande

September -20 +08 +04
October -22 +06 +03
November -26 +04 +02
December -28 +02 +01
January -26 +04 +02
March -24 +06 +03
April -16 +08 +04
May -08 +10 +05
June -00 +10 +05
July -08 +10 +05
August -16 +08 +04

By using this table one can find the highest and lowest tides of the season and calculate the effect of the moons on their crest. June is obviously the month with the highest tides and when Petite et le Grande are in conjunction the tides can be up to 15 greater than average. Very good information for the sea farer or surfer!

Seasons: Jìjié.

Seasons seem to be an addition to the realm from collective expectations. The spin of the realm is perfectly stable, witnessed by the fact the stars, sun, and moons remain on a constant elliptic regardless of day, season, or year. Still we have seasons. One working theory, Lilùn, for this is that nature expects seasons. The flowers, the trees, people and animals all expect a season for bloom, for growing, for rutting gestation and again birth. Much in the same way we expect there to be stars and therefore there are stars seasons are expected by nature in order for the cycles to continue.

This might explain why we seldom get snow or lovely sunny days, but we get rain all the time! Nature isn't certain which season it is in so it compromises and we get sudden afternoon rain showers.

Sol Tàiyáng.

The Solar body of the realm is referred to as Sol, the Sun, Tàiyáng, as well as various other colloquial terms. In the realm of the heavens Sol for us is a Celestial traveler, it revolves around the realm, and with this in mind it is our main guide post for determining effects upon a person born within the realm. It is important to note that travelers who have found themselves in Shangrila do not automatically align with their Shangrila Sun Sign. For some it never happens, for others it is a very quick process, but the sun in Shangrila is not the sun of their origin. Some find this pull difficult to accept. Sol is represented within charts by a Large circle O with a dot in the center.

Sol is a magnifying object, a focus, a lens. When doing a Sun Sign chart for a birth in Shangrila the Sun enhances all the aspects of that chart. As with Western Astrology births are recorded with regard to a Sun Sign. A child born when the sun is in as Minor house is born under the sign of "The Wanderer" and a child born under Oblivion's Sky is said to "Walk the Acolytes Path". All other signs are named after their respective houses. Tàiyáng has the sphere of influence of The Heavens with strong associations with matters of knowledge, religion, Magick, and teaching. A persons primary motivations begin as thoughts and thus this is the ruling aspect.

A person thus could be said for example to be:

Sol in Hydra
Sol in Serpens

Luna Grande the "Fat Moon" - Bianfú Yuèliàng.

The fat moon is the larger of the two planetoids, but it orbits further away from the realm so its effects are less pronounced. Bianfú is associated with the male aspect due to its larger size and less influence on matters of the realm, less influence than it thinks it has anyway. Imposing, handsome, jolly are all aspects one associates with Bianfú. For the purposes of a star chart it is always read as the first aspect after Sol. Bianfú has the sphere of influence of Water with strong associations with leadership, guidance, and navigation.

A person thus could be said for example to be:

Sol in Hydra and Bianfú in Minor
Sol in Serpens and Bianfú in Centaurus

Luna Petite the "Tiny" Xiao - Wèn Yuèliàng .

Xiao or "Tiny" is the Enclave name for Luna Petite. It is the smaller of the two planetoids and orbits closer to the realm. As such it has a greater pull on the ocean and objects withint it's influence. Smaller in stature it is most closely associated with the female aspect less imposing and easy to miss, but with a gravity and power over the world that is under estimated. Xiao is most closely associated with the Earth spere of influence with strong associations with Love, the heart, emotions, inspiration, and birth. Xiao is always read after Bianfú Yuèliàng in a reading.

A person thus could be said for example to be:

==============================================================================

Orbital Resonance

In celestial mechanics, orbital resonance occurs when orbiting bodies exert regular, periodic gravitational influence on each other, usually because their orbital periods are very closely related in ratio. The physical principle behind orbital resonance is similar in concept to pushing a child on a swing, where the orbit and the swing both have a natural frequency, and the other body doing the "pushing" will act in periodic repetition to have a cumulative effect on the motion.

Orbital resonances greatly enhance the mutual gravitational influence of the bodies, i.e., their ability to alter or constrain each other's orbits. In most cases, this results in an unstable interaction, in which the bodies exchange momentum and shift orbits until the resonance no longer exists, moons crash into moons, crash into planets, or spin off into space etc. Within our realm the system has attained a stable and self-correcting relationship, so that the bodies remain in resonance. Our system is mathematically a 1:2:4 ratio system. For every one time the sun goes around the celestial sphere, a year, Luna Grande goes around two times, and Luna Petite goes around four times. This creates a very stable system, several predictable Occlusions, several predictable Oppositions, several predictable eclipses, and a nearly equal amount of prograde and retrograde each solar year.

Title: Chapter 11 - Celestial Mechanics - Retrograde Author: Bittersweet
==============================================================================

Objects in Retrograde

Retrograde describes the counter orbit of one of the moons with regard to it's observed position the night before. Sol never appears to be in retrograde. All of our celestial objects revolve clockwise around the realm, so retrograde is a counter-clockwise path through the night sky. Sol rotates counterclockwise on its axes where Bianfú and Xiao are stationary in their orbits with no rotation.

For the effects on an Astrological chart when a moon is in retrograde it has the opposite effect normally attributed to the object.

For example:

Sol in Hydra, Bianfú in Minor, and Xiao in Serpens. Would generally represent a person of strong will and dominating personality, concerned with various- at times trivial matters, but has strong feelings when it comes to right and wrong.

Sol in Hydra, Bianfú in retrograde Minor, and Xiao in retrograde Serpens. Would generally be attributed to a person of a large or dominating aspect who is either not concerned at all with trivial matters or possibly only concerned with specific very large matters and is generally amoral or has little compunction with bending or breaking of laws.

The general concept is retrograde motion implies a negative aspect. Though there are modifications to this as well, see Opposition, Occlusion, Conjunction, and Eclipse.

==============================================================================

Objects in Opposition

Objects in Opposition: The alignment of two celestial objects when their longitude differs by 180°. Opposition of the Moons and Constellations is often determined with reference to Sol. For example, Luna Grande is said to be at opposition when Luna Grande and the Sun are aligned on opposite sides of realm. The moons and Sol can be in opposition to each other. Aspects in direct Opposition with each other fight for dominance and it is up to the reader to look deeper into the chart to determine dominate aspects which influence the subject.

Partial Oppositions or Squares:

Squares occur with celestial objects are at 90° to each other. A +90° square (270°) is known as a Magnifying Aspect of the feminine or Xiao. A -90° square (90°) is known as a Magnifying Aspect of the Masculine aspect or Bianfú Yuèliàng.

Squares are particularly important with regard to influence on the subject. One can think of them as the voice in the back of their head nudging them one way or the other. Oppositions are the voices, demons and angels that fight for dominion in a more overt manner. According to father Xu-Wiang Hsu these relationships are what provide us with the 8 great truths. We can see these either as the 8 cardinal and subcardinal directions of the celestial sky or as variations on the the two, good and evil, as with all truths there are degrees of truth, as their is heaven there must be hell, as there is light there must be dark, as there is above there must be below. Yin and Yang are but degrees of each other. These thoughts should be pondered at length by any dedicated student of Father Xu-Wiang Hsu.
