4Platform: PS1
5Release dates (d.m.y):
6 11.02.1999 (Japan)
7 31.08.1999 (NA)
8 27.10.1999 (PAL)

10Based on: PAL-version (SLES-02080, SLES-12080, SLES-22080, SLES-32080)
11
12
13
14- Successfully Mugging an enemy will prevent the target from dropping
15any items whatsoever (Raijin 2 being the only exception).
16- The enemy can still drop its respective card even if you successfully
17Mug it (Ultima Weapon being a slight exception).
18- Luck increases your evade rate, critical hit rate and the chance to
19surprise the enemy (no effect on the chance to steal).
20- Squall's "critical" hits are not as powerful as the other characters'
21(150% vs. 200%).
22- Once a character's HP is below 30% or so, there's a chance that the
23Limit Break command will become available when you access or "refresh"
24the Command menu. If the character is inflicted with status ailments
25and / or other characters are dead, it's possible to get a Limit Break
26at a somewhat higher HP value. The Aura status allows a character to
27execute Limit Breaks at any HP value.
28- Limit Break skills will take priority in queued actions.
29- Darkness will not prevent Squall from hitting, but instead it disables
30the trigger command.
31- The hit rate of Card is determined by the target's cHP divided by mHP.
32- The hit rate of Devour is determined by the target's mHP, cHP divided
33by mHP, and the user's mHP.
34- LV Up / Down will occasionally miss.
35- New weapon models will show up in the Junk Shop menu as soon as you
36have the necessary materials for a specific weapon, or when you read
37volumes of the Weapons Monthly magazine.
38
39- There is no MP in the game. Instead, spells are quantified. You obtain
40spells by 'Drawing' them from enemies or Draw Points found on the field.
41You can also create them from items using certain Abilities.
42 × Drawing power is affected by the character's Magic.
43 × Drawing spells from enemies can easily get pretty boring. If you go
44 down the item route, you won't have to do that anywhere near as much.
45 If you prefer to use Draw for whatever reason, don't forget to use the
46 Lv Up Command Ability to gain access to better spells.
47- There are 49 different spells in the game. Each character can carry
48up to 32 different spells, with at most 100 each. You can freely move
49spells between characters and even delete them.
50- Leveling up produces very minimal stat gains in FF8. Instead, you're
51primarily supposed to rely on the Junction system to increase your stats.
52This system involves 'Junctioning' spells to specific stats or attributes.
53The stats and attributes available for Junctioning are determined by the
54Abilities of the character's equipped GF.
55- Summon monsters are called GF (Guardian Force) this time around. There
56are 16 GF in total (plus a few special ones that you can't equip). Most
57GF are obtained by Drawing them from bosses or by defeating a boss. GF
58will learn new Abilities as you gain AP from battles. Most Abilities can
59also be taught using items, though they're generally not easy to come by.
60Each GF can have at most 22 Abilities. You can delete Abilities by using
61the item Amnesia Greens (bought for 1000 gil).
62 × By default, each GF will indeed learn 22 Abilities. Not all of these
63 Abilities are on the list at first, though, as they need to be unlocked
64 by learning some other Ability (eg. learning Str +20% unlocks Str +40%).
65 If there are no free slots when an Ability is unlocked, that Ability
66 is lost.
67 × GF also gain xp, and there are a few Abilities that require the GF
68 to reach a certain level.
69 × You can buy basic stat Junction scrolls in Timber (10k each) once you
70 have Tonberry's Familiar ability.
71 × GF can also be summoned during battle, but the animations are quite
72 lengthy, and the damage is pretty modest at low levels. As such, there's
73 no reason to use them in a low level playthrough (I wouldn't use them
74 either way). If you never use summons, you'll have no use for the Sum
75 Mag + and GF HP + Abilities. You won't need Boost either, but that one
76 can't be taught with an item, so you might want to hang on to it.

95
96- There are no treasure chests.
97- Enemies don't drop any money. Initially, your main source of income
98is your SeeD salary that you'll automatically receive periodically. It
99should be enough on Disc 1 and 2. On Disc 3, on the other hand, you'll
100gain access to an Ability that allows you to amass millions of gil with
101little time and effort (and you'll need it if you want to max out some
102of your stats).
103 × Your salary is determined by your SeeD level. Many of your actions
104 and choices throughout the game will have an impact on your SLv. In
105 a low level playthrough, you'll miss out on the single most common
106 positive force on your SLv: killing enemies (by taking their HP to 0).
107 This shouldn't be a problem, however, and I would advise you not to
108 mind your SLv.
109
110- Because enemies' stats are scaled based on your party's level, creating
111the strongest possible party involves keeping your levels as low as
112possible. You can avoid gaining Exp by:
113 1. Running away
114 2. Morphing / Devouring
115 3. Casting Break
116 4. Using LV Down
117 5. Equipping Enc-None
118 6. Having only one PC alive at the end of a battle
119 7. Using TPCs (Seifer and Edea)
120
121- Morphing will be your primary method of nullifying xp (when you're
122actually fighting something and not using Enc-None), so try to get good
123at it. If you're not focusing, it's really easy to lose count of the
124damage you've dealt, so don't hesitate to use Scan (again) if you're
125not sure if you can weaken the enemy further.
126- If you have completionist tendencies, you could also consider trying
127to obtain as many of the 198 different items in the game as you can (as
128in, at least one of each).
129 × 2 Unique items will be lost, as they're needed for GF. 4 items are
130 PocketStation exclusive (Mog's Amulet, Chocobo's Tag, Friendship,
131 Ribbon).
132 × You'll likely need to use Angelo Search for the following 4 items:
133 Jet Engine, Hero-Trial, Gold Armor, Hungry Cookpot. I don't bother
134 with these myself.
135
136- Trophy note: ... There are no Trophy notes. Not a single one of the
137Trophies should give you any trouble (not when you have this guide).
138
139- Here are some key points:
140
141 Disc 1
142- Learn Card (20 AP from Ifrit, the rest with Seifer in Dollet).
143- Learn Enc-None.
144- Get 100 Tornado spells for at least one character and a few dozens
145of Break by playing cards. At the same time, you should obtain some
146other useful Magic (Confuse, Haste, Meltdown, Pain, Death, Regen,
147Curaga, Berserk). After this, Triple Triad will be mostly optional.
148
149 Disc 2
150- Leech Ultima spells at Shumi Village.
151- Complete the CC Group side quest.
152- Get GF Tonberry.
153- Steal 100 Curse Spikes from the Tri-Faces at the main hall of Galbadia
154Garden (if collecting items).
155
156 Disc 3
157- Build up Siren to Lv100 with Edea.
158- Steal more Curse Spikes from the Tri-Faces at the Deep Sea Deposit if
159needed.
160- Obtain the last remaining GF.
161- Finish your spell collection with the help of the Draw Points at
162Heaven and Hell.
163- Clean up the TT rules in Centra.
164- Create loads of stat boost items (HP Up, Str Up, Spr Up) by refining
165[Stat]+40% items.
166
167 Disc 4
168- Create Vit Ups by repeatedly winning back the Minotaur Card from Joker.
169- More stat boosting if needed.

225Party: Squall Lv7 (6500xp)
226
227GF: Quezacotl, Shiva \\\ B-Garden- Classroom ||
228Initial stats (Squall): 486 HP, 17 Str, 6 Vit, 6 Mag, 5 Spr, 21 Spd,
229 16 Luck, 1% Eva, 255% Hit
230Inventory: 6 Potions, 4 Phoenix Downs, 2 Remedies, 5 Tents and 5000 Gil
231Default weapon (Squall): Revolver
232- Now would be a good time to customize the settings through the
233configuration menu.
234- Examine the monitor at Squall's desk and choose Tutorial.
235- "Equip" Squall with Shiva, and save Quetzacoatl for Quistis. Also make
236sure Shiva is learning Str-J, and Quezacotl is going for Card. You can
237change these through the Guardian Force menu.
238- Squall's Limit Break, Renzokuken, allows you to hit an enemy multiple
239times, although the hit count may vary (4-8 + finisher). Upgrading his
240weapon gives him access to new finishing moves.
241
242 \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
243- Talk to the man near the elevator to receive a bunch of Level 1 cards.
244I wouldn't bother playing Triple Triad until you have some better cards.
245
246 \\\ B-Garden- Hall ||
247- Examine the computer screen near the save point, and you can fast-travel
248to various locations within the Garden. You can only use this on Disc 1.
249- I recommend against venturing into the Training facility at the moment.
250
251 \\\ B-Garden- Quad ||
252- Talk to Selphie, and you'll be given the option to help her out with
253the Garden Festival. Choose the dialog options 'Interested' and 'Sure.'
254
255Item: Occult Fan I \\\ B-Garden- Library ||
256Draw: Esuna (low res, no rec)
257
258Draw: Cure \\\ B-Garden - Front Gate ||
259PC: Quistis Lv8
260Initial stats (Quistis): 501 HP, 19 Str, 5 Vit, 6 Mag, 6 Spr, 20 Spd,
261 15 Luck, 1% Eva, 103% Hit
262Default weapon (Quistis): Chain Whip
263- Quistis' Limit Break is Blue Magic. There are 16 Enemy Skills in
264total (she starts with one: Laser Eye). She can learn more by using
265certain items.
266
267Party: Squall Lv7, Quistis Lv8 \\\ Balamb- Alcauld Plains ||
268Draw: Cure, Blizzard, Esuna (high res, high rec)
269- I should remind you that you are not to attack enemies during battles.
270Drawing spells is recommended, however. Stock up with a decent supply
271of Scan and Blizzard, a max supply of Cure and Thunder and a small
272supply of Sleep.
273- Check a map to find the invisible Draw Points.
274- A draw point with high resistance (high res) produces a small yield.
275High recovery (high rec) means that it only takes a short amount of time
276before the draw point can be used again.
277- Notice that you will not run into random encounters on the paved road.
278
279Lost & Found: Ifrit Card (Ifrit) \\\ Fire Cavern ||
280GF: Ifrit
281Boss: Ifrit
282- Recheck that your GF are learning the right Abilities when you reach
283the area where the music stops.
284
285[Boss]
286- 20 AP
287
288- Regarding Ifrit's Abilities, give F Mag-RF, HP-J and Str+20% priority.
289
290PC: Zell \\\ BGarden- Dormitory Double ||
291TPC: Seifer
292- Examine Squall's bed and choose to get changed.
293
294 \\\ Balamb Harbor ||
295Initial stats (Zell): 544 HP, 19 Str, 5 Vit, 6 Mag, 4 Spr, 21 Spd,
296 15 Luck, 1% Eva, 98% Hit
297Default weapon (Zell): Metal Knuckle
298- Zell's Limit Break, Duel, allows you to hit the enemy multiple times
299by inputting commands for various attacks, similar to Blitz / Hissatsuwaza
300from FF6. He has access to all moves from the get-go, although half of
301these moves won't be visible until you find certain editions of the Combat
302King magazine.
303
304Special: Timber Maniacs #1a \\\ Balamb Hotel ||
305- Any of the twelve volumes of the Timber Maniacs you may find will not
306actually show up in the inventory.
307- There's an item shop near the train station, so go check it out if
308you're worried about supplies. You'll probably find the Junk Shop as well,
309but I'll completely ignore weapon upgrades until halfway through Disc 2.
310
311Party: Squall, Zell, Seifer, [Quistis] \\\ Dollet- Lapin Beach ||
312- Equip Squall with Shiva, Zell with Quezacotl, and Seifer with Ifrit.
313Give Seifer something to boost his Strength.
314
315 \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
316
317[Fixed Encounter001: 2× G-Soldiers] (208xp)
318- Unless you've managed to obtain some Break spells, you'll need to
319kill off Squall and Zell so that they won't gain any Exp. Keep in mind,
320though, that their GF *will* gain both xp and AP.
321
322[Fixed Encounter002: 2× G-Soldiers] (150xp)
323
324[Fixed Encounter003: G-Soldier] (104xp)
325
326[Fixed Encounter004: G-Soldier] (104xp)
327
328- Random encounters will be activated once you reach the bridge. At this
329point, your main objectives are:
330 1. Learn Card (then move to Card Mod)
331 2. Build up Ifrit to Level 10 (4500xp), at which point the Abilities
332 Mad Rush and Ammo-RF are unlocked.
333 3. Keep Seifer in your party until #1 and #2 have been completed. He
334 leaves your party when you reach the third Mountain Hideout area.
335
336PC: Selphie \\\ Dollet- Mountain Hideout ||
337Lost & Found: 2× Dragon Skin (Anacondaur - Rare)
338Initial stat (Selphie): 482 HP, 18 Str, 5 Vit, 10 Mag, 7 Spr, 17 Spd,
339 19 Luck, 1% Eva, 98% Hit
340Default weapon (Selphie): Flail
341
342[Fixed Encounter005: Anacondaur]
343
344- Things may get messy when fighting two Anacondaurs at a time. Don't
345hesitate to run away if you think you don't have enough time to use
346Red Cross - No Mercy three times or so.
347- Heal your party after Seifer leaves; you'll be revived with 1 HP.
348Any spells Seifer had will be transferred to Selphie.
349- Selphie's Limit Break, Slot, allows her to cast a random spell,
350possibly multiple times. This gives her exclusive access to four special
351spells: Full-Cure, Wall, Rapture and The End. However, at her default
352level, you'll only ever see Full-Cure and, rarely, Wall. Not a big deal.
353
354Party: Squall Lv7, Zell Lv8, Selphie Lv8 \\\ Dollet- Comm Tower ||
355Draw: Esuna (Biggs 1), Protect (X-ATM092), Siren GF (Elvoret)
356Lost & Found: Weapons Mon Mar (Elvoret)
357Bosses: Biggs 1 (+ Wedge 1) & Elvoret (separate phases), X-ATM092
358- Squall: Shiva; Zell: Ifrit; Selphie: Quezacotl.
359
360[Boss]
361- 14 / 18 AP in total
362- If your Magic is too low, you'll have a very hard time Drawing Esuna.
363- Make sure you Draw Siren from Elvoret.
364- Keep Squall in critical condition so you can execute Renzokuken every turn.
365
366- Note: You *cannot* pause the game on the field once you've stepped out
367of the tower and fought X-ATM for the first time.
368
369[Boss]
370- (50 AP)
371- After hacking X-ATM enough, you will be advised to run. Do so unless
372you're powerful enough to take out its HP before the repairs are complete.
373
374- All future encounters with the machine can be avoided, assuming you're
375fast and witty enough.
376- 092 will jump over you at the bridge, at which point you just need to
377run back until it jumps over you again, allowing you to pass though the
378area unharmed.
379- At the central square, you should "talk" to the dog while you're running
380through.
381
382- Having obtained the ability to morph enemies into Cards, you can now
383build up your GF without gaining levels. Finishing up the story events
384in the Garden first isn't a bad idea, however.
385
386 \\\ B-Garden- Hall ||
387- Trigger an event centering around Seifer in the eastern lobby before
388proceeding to the 2F Hallway.
389
390Special: Battle Meter \\\ B-Garden - Headmaster's Office ||
391- Talk to Cid to receive the Battle Meter, which can be viewed through
392the menu (Tutorial, Information, Information, Battle Report).
393
394 \\\ B-Garden- 2F Hallway ||
395- The test results determine your starting SeeD level. It's really not
396that important.
397
398 \\\ B-Garden- Dormitory Double ||
399- If you haven't joined the Garden Festival committee yet, Selphie will
400ask you to in the Ballroom.
401
402PC: Quistis \\\ B-Garden- Hallway ||
403- Set up your skills and GF etc.
404
405Draw: Protect (Raldo), Shell (Granaldo) \\\ B-Garden- Training Center ||
406Cards: Shumi Tribe (Grat, T-Rexaur)
407Boss(es): Granaldo & 3× Raldos
408- Trigger an event by entering the area north from the save point.
409
410[Boss]
411- 14 AP in total
412
413Item: Weapons Mon Apr \\\ B-Garden- Dormitory Single ||
414- Check the table to find Weapons Monthly, April Issue. As I already
415mentioned, you do *not* need the magazines in order to upgrade your
416weapons.
417
418Item: Magical Lamp (Unique, Temp) \\\ B-Garden- Front Gate ||
419PCs: Selphie, Zell
420- Talk to Cid to receive the Magical Lamp. Using it triggers a boss
421battle you may not yet be prepared for.
422
423GF: Diablos \\\ Any location ||
424Lost & Found: Diablos Card (Diablos)
425Draw: Demi (Diablos)
426Boss: Diablos
427
428[Boss]
429- Diablos has 6400 HP (at Level 7) and is worth 20 AP
430- Draw-Cast Demi with Selphie (Quetzalcoatl)
431- Use Renzokuken and looped Duel (eg. Punch Rush, Booya, repeat) as
432often as possible
433
434- If you just can't do it, try again later with some Tornado in your stock.
435
436Party: Squall Lv7, Selphie Lv8, Zell Lv8
437 \\\ Balamb- Alcauld Plains ||
438Card: Elvoret (Bite Bug), Trauma (Caterchipillar), Jumbo Cactuar (Glacial Eye)
439- Before going on a Triple Triad frenzy, you could take the time to
440morph some enemies into (possibly rare) cards. In case you haven't
441tested this yet, just weaken the enemy to below 50% mHP or so, and
442then fire away with the Card command. Make good use of the Scan spell.
443- Always use Squall to weaken the target since you can control his critical
444hits. That is, unless you're certain that the other characters' attacks
445won't kill the enemy.
446
447Card: Krysta (Buel, Bomb), [X-ATM092] (Red Bat) \\\ Fire Cavern ||
448- De-equip any Strength boosts before attempting to weaken any Buels.
449Alternatively, have a character with low Magic Draw-Cast Fire.
450- You can create 10 Holy spells from a single Krysta card. On the other
451hand, it's also pretty decent when playing Triple Triad.
452- Stay away from the Red Bats, as I seriously doubt your ability to weaken
453them without instantly killing them in the process.
454
455 \\\ Rinauld Coast ||
456- This area is highly recommended when in need of Abilities. A single
457Fastitocalon (F) is worth 3 AP, and they always appear in groups of two.
458Unfortunately, they can only be morphed into Fastitocalon-F cards.
459They also seem to be resistant to Scan; you can see their level, but
460not their HP.
461- Aim for all the menu Abilities (Mid Mag-RF, Card Mod, etc) for now.
462Playing Triple Triad and using these Abilities allows you to obtain
463some pretty powerful spells.
464
465 \\\ Balamb- Town Square ||
466- Save the game and then locate the Queen of Cards near the item shop.
467Challenge her to a game of cards. If the Trade Rule Diff (or All) pops
468up, opt to quit, and go challenge someone else (the girl at the gas
469station, for instance) to make sure it spreads. You won't actually see
470a message saying 'Trading Rule Diff has spread out through this region'
471or anything like that, though. If the Queen offers some other Trade Rule,
472reset and try again. The one Trade Rule you need to avoid at all costs
473is Direct.
474- Once you've obtained the Trade Rule of your liking, start beating
475people up (with cards). The mini-game is *very* simple (a higher value
476beats a lower value), so you shouldn't have trouble getting the hang of
477it. The easiest way to win is to play defensively until the very end.
478- WARNING: Challenging the crouching guy at the harbor will erase any
479and all rules in the Balamb region. Just stay away from him unless you
480know what you're doing.
481- The Trade Rule will revert back to One occasionally, but this seems
482to be only temporary.
483
484Cards: Zell (Mrs. Dincht) \\\ Balamb- The Dincht's ||
485
486Cards: Seifer (Headmaster Cid) \\\ B-Garden- Headmaster's Office ||
487
488Cards: MiniMog (kid in blue shirt) \\\ B-Garden- Hall(way) ||
489
490Cards: Quistis (Trepe Groupie #1, #2, or #3) \\\ B-Garden- Cafeteria ||
491- Naturally, you can only get one Quistis card even though 3 people use it.
492

503- Save and go challenge the Queen. If a Trade Rule other than Diff or
504One pops up, reset. Sometimes asking her about the "current trend in
505trade rules" first helps. Anyway, that's just part one. Next,
506intentionally lose your MiniMog card to her (you can get it back
507later) and talk to her afterwards. If she says she's heading to a
508location other than Dollet, reset. Keep trying until she chooses to
509go to Dollet (and doesn't throw stuff like Direct at you). Doing this
510will allow you to get the Kiros card when you catch up with her.
511 × There are a few other cards that require you to lose specific cards
512 to the Queen. It's a bit of a pain, so if you don't feel like going
513 through the trouble, you really don't have to. You can still get these
514 cards and any other rare cards you may have missed on Disc 4.
515
516 Spell check
517- 100 Tornado, at least 50 Break (in addition to Cockatrice Pinions, you
518can also get Break from Soft). You'll likely be able to create some other
519useful spells as well, but these two are the minimum requirements.
520

522- Enc-None. I'd also recommend getting ab. 100 AP for Mug, but I guess
523it's not crucial.

545 17 Luck, 1% Eva, 99% Hit
546Default weapon (Rinoa): Pinwheel
547- Triple Triad's about to get more tricky now. Go save the game in the
548second screen, and then challenge Watts. Agree to mix the rules and then
549quit. "The Open rule has spread throughout this region" is what you want
550to hear. If he stops asking about mixing the rules before this happens,
551reset.
552
553- Unfortunately, thanks to one of Rinoa's Limit Breaks, I'd advice you
554to never keep her in your party unless no other choice is given; Angelo
555Rush will activate randomly even at max HP, potentially resulting in
556Exp. I'd more than likely replace Zell from my standard party with her
557if it weren't for that.
558- In case you're still determined to use her, here's some info on her
559(and Angelo's) Limit Break skills. They're actually divided into two
560categories (even though they are all listed in the same window in the
561Status screen):
562 1. Counterattacks -> Angelo Rush (default), Angelo Recover (Pet Pals Vol 2),
563 Angelo Reverse (Pet Pals Vol 4), Angelo Search (Pet Pals Vol 5).
564 Recover, Reverse and Search are harmless, and learning them will
565 probably decrease the chances of Rush.
566 2. Normal Limit command -> Angelo Cannon (default), Angelo Strike
567 (Pet Pals Vol 1), Invincible Moon (Pet Pals Vol 3), Wishing Star
568 (Pet Pals Vol 6). One of these will be randomly executed (assuming
569 you've learnt it) upon using the Combine Limit Break. Unfortunately,
570 you cannot increase Wishing Star's activation rate by skipping Angelo
571 Strike and Invincible Moon. You can, however, increase the activation
572 rate of Invincible Moon by not learning Wishing Star. Apparently,
573 all four skills are present when you call for Angelo, but if you
574 roll a skill you haven't learnt, you'll go "down the ladder."
575- A sound will tell you once a skill has been learnt. Rinoa must be
576in the active party for Angelo to gain AP.

641messages you may get afterwards, but the ones we're looking for are:

644 × "The 'Random' rule was abolished from this region."

663
664 \\\ Timber- City Square ||
665- Once again, challenge the guard until the option to mix the rules no
666longer appears. Don't forget that afterwards, you will need to challenge
667someone and at least 'quit.' (Doing so will make the Same rule "stick"
668with you)
669
670 \\\ Dollet- Town Square ||
671- You know the drill. There should only be either Random or Elemental
672left. Once only Open (and the Trade Rule, of course) remains, it's
673mission accomplished. In any case, cards aren't the only reason to
674come here.
675- Abolishing all the unwanted rules from all regions is a very time-
676consuming process. Since it's already fairly tedious to create all
677those stat boost items (on Disc 3/4), I can't blame you if you'd rather
678not do it. It's not even necessary for boosting your stats. It's really
679more of a completionist thing. The one exception is Centra. At the very
680least, you should fix the rules in Centra, since that's the one Joker
681uses. You can still do that on Disc 4, so there's no rush. As for getting
682a complete card collection, you could certainly do that even without
683manipulating the rules. It's a little trickier, but it's not too bad.

729Your actions here determine what items you'll find inside the Lunatic
730Pandora on Disc 3.
731- After the first fixed encounters, take the western path. You'll find
732a Confuse DP and ladders down. Descend. Run around the left side of the
733area until you are given the option to pick something up (Old Key 1 - you
734don't actually get to keep it). Proceed and you should find three hatches
735on the ground. Examine the middle one, and you'll eventually be presented
736with the option of tampering with it. Do so and head east. Return to the
737previous area, and attempt to tamper with the right hatch as well. Now,
738head east past the cross-like area. Move towards the metal objects and
739you should again be given the option to pick something up (Old Key 2 -
740Laguna manages to lose this one as well). Proceed east until you reach the
741area with the Sleep DP again. Take the same path as the first time, so
742you can go tamper with the left hatch (or at least try). Return to the
743"inverse T" area (where you found the second key) and proceed north.
744- Follow the eastern path to find a save sphere. Retrace and take the
745path north. Examine the object near the boulder, which actually turns
746out to be a detonator (the object, not the boulder). Hit the red switch
747first and you should see the left hatch opening as a result of the
748events. The blue one will now take care of the right hatch (in addition
749to some sentries). Proceed north. After passing through the area with
750pink crystals, you'll find yet another boulder. Simply examine it.
751Proceed northeast to find the save point again. Head north.

775 × Plus means that you'll get a hit if the values facing off add up to
776 the same value.
777 × Same-Wall means the walls have a value of 10 / A.
778- In case you forgot, after each successful rule change (except for the

1867(around L20 if you've managed to keep your party's level low).
1868 × Grendel: No LV Up needed.
1869 × Bomb: LV Up followed by two Mug attempts after which it'll commit

1875 × Imp: A single LV Up to get a chance to receive better spoils.
1876 × Torama: Again, one LV Up to get better spoils.
1877- You can also run into Oilboyles and Blue Dragons if you manage to

1879bad news since they can't be morphed. Run away immediately if you
1880bump into any. If you're looking for Dragon Fangs for a Med Kit
1881(Treatment), this is the best place to hunt down Blue Dragons. Ditch

1885far as 300, I suggest you simply mod the Carbuncle Card eventually
1886to obtain three Glow Curtains (Auto-Reflect) right away, two of which
1887will be used to create a Monk's Code (Counter). If you value your
1888Carbuncle Card too much despite the fact that you can get it back,

1979Don't forget that the fixed encounters will disappear after you kill
1980Ultima Weapon. For this reason, some people prefer to ignore Ultima Weapon
1981altogether, and get Eden in Disc 4. This way, one would still have
1982access to the fastest source for Curse Spikes, and, thus, be able to
1983create Luck Ups with the least amount of effort - relatively speaking.
1984Maxing out a character's Luck, however, is a project that's well beyond

1992
1993- GFAbl Med-RF will be crucial, so shoot for that first.
1994- Devour should be put to use immediately, as it's generally a very
1995effective method to take out weak enemies that are troublesome to morph.
1996
1997
1998- For a change of pace, we're going to finish the deal with the Triple
1999Triad rules now. Our goal is to abolish all rules except Open in all
2000regions.
2001 × As already mentioned, you really don't need to do this if you feel
2002 it's too much trouble. The only one that will impact stat-boosting is
2003 Centra (and Trabia if you're boosting Speed), so you should at least
2004 do that one.
2005- Right, to begin the final process go "pick up" whichever rule you
2006deleted in space. Here's what some regions had in my game.
2007
2008 Galbadia | Same, Open
2009 FH | Elemental, Open
2010 Centra | Same / Plus, Random
2011 Esthar | Elemental, Same Wall
2012
2013- Since I got rid of Elemental in space, I went to FH and challenged
2014Martine. Nothing more to it. Then, I flew to Lunar Gate and challenged
2015the girl inside the station (Former Lunar-Side Base Personnel). The
2016rest is just flying back and forth between FH and the station (and,
2017naturally, quite a bit of soft-resetting).
2018- Don't forget that Same Wall will be hidden if the Same rule isn't
2019present. You can still abolish (or spread) it, though.
2020- Also, if you're carrying rules that won't prompt mixing in another
2021region but you want to pick up that region's rules, you have to start
2022a bunch of games to do so.
2023
2024- My next target was Esthar. Go pick up Same in Timber. When you leave
2025the Airstation, follow the northern path to find the Presidential Palace.
2026Use the hidden save point east before approaching it. The first guard
2027you see (in front of the building, not inside) should be willing to
2028play. You know the rest.
2029
2030- Next up is Centra. After picking up Elemental at FH once again, head
2031to Winhill. Enter it from the right side and you should see the SeeD
2032dropouts right nearby. If you find yourself in the town square instead,
2033you chose the wrong side. In any case, only the mercenary in the blue
2034uniform will play.
2035
2036- We're almost there. Here's what you should do: Spread Elemental in
2037Balamb. Abolish Elemental in FH (played with 'Familiar Face #3'). Abolish
2038Same in Galbadia (played with the guard with the cat in Timber). Delete
2039Balamb's rules, and then spread Open.
2040- In case you forgot, you can wipe out any and all rules in Balamb by
2041playing with the crouching man at the harbor.
2042- And finally, play a quick game in every region to see if you missed
2043anything - or not see it if it's a hidden Same Wall in which case you'll
2044be asked to mix rules in the next region you play that doesn't have Same Wall.
2045- If, for some reason, you wish to play with rules other than Open, go
2046pay a visit to the Queen of Cards, and she'll throw in a new rule for
204730 000 Gil. She will move to a different region every time you lose a
2048Level 8, 9, or 10 card to her, but I've no details to offer you regarding
2049the pattern by which she moves around.

2132need a hundred Whispers (stolen from Adamantoises). You might as well
2133eat them up while you're at it. You can also get it through Angelo
2134Search, though the odds are low.
2135
2136- It's finally time to create stat-boost items. First, you'll need as
2137much Gil as you can get. In case you forgot, you're supposed to buy
2138Tents and Cottages (or just Cottages), refine them into Mega-Potions,
2139and sell them.
2140- Once you have the cash, check 'Esthar Shop!!!' (ie. Johnny's Shop)
2141for the items listed below.
2142
2143 10 Giant's Rings -> Gaea's Ring -> HP Up (mHP +10) | 150k
2144 100 Power Wrists -> 10 Hyper Wrists -> Str Up (Str +1) | 1,5m
2145 100 Force Armlets -> 10 Magic Armlets -> Spr Up (Spr +1) | 1,5m
2146 100 Hypno Crowns -> 10 Royal Crowns -> Mag Up (Mag +1) | 1,5m
2147
2148- I myself prefer to start with HP, since you only need about
214990 000 000 Gil to boost a single character's HP to decent numbers.
2150Since I'm using Holy / Meteor in conjunction with my HP, I'll need a
2151base HP value of 6200. That's roughly 570 HP Ups for Squall, fewer for
2152the other character I'm using (Selphie, Zell).
2153- Next, Squall's Strength (I choose to ignore the other characters'
2154here even though Zell's Duel has quite a bit of potential). Since
2155I'm using Meteor in conjunction with my Str, I'll need a base Str
2156value of 161. That's 140 Str Ups for me. Notice that the base Str
2157value you see when you're using a Str Up doesn't include the bonus
2158the character gains from his or her weapon.
2159- The fastest method to gain Str Ups is actually modding the Eden Card
2160and winning it back from eg. Joker (on Disc 4), but I prefer to have
2161Squall beefed up for the final confrontation with Seifer.
2162- Spirit should be boosted to approximately 175. At this point,
2163Full-Life will be more than enough to reach 255, but you'll need
2164the extra few points, as you may end up using the spell occasionally.
2165Reflect isn't a bad choice either. Might as well fix yourself up with
2166some Moon Curtains (Auto-Shell).
2167- I don't bother boosting Magic.
2168- The only one left is Vitality. This one will have to wait until Disc 4,
2169where we'll mod the Minotaur Card and win it back from Joker (you did
2170finish the CC Group side quest, didn't you? Otherwise, he won't play
2171with the "unique" cards). The alternative methods are much more
2172time-consuming.
2173
2174- Collectors should stick with IC a little longer, so you can cook up
2175items such as a Doc's Code (Med Data) and a Phoenix Spirit (Revive).

2247scattered about in your ship, and, as Xu mentions, you can challenge
2248Quistis by taking her into the Airlock.
2249- The cards you may encounter here include every single card in the game
2250(except for that one little Level 5 card). The twist with Level 8, 9 and
225110 cards is, however, that you can only have one of a specific card at a
2252time. If you want, for instance, more Eden Cards, you'll have to get rid
2253of it first (ie. mod it). The "unique" cards will always appear in the
2254order as seen in the Card menu, one at a time. The exceptions include
2255the cards the Queen's father created (Chubby Chocobo, Phoenix, Doomtrain,
2256Kiros, Irvine), which can only be (re-)acquired from the Goth Diamond
2257(the left one).
2258- Joker aka Man from Balamb will be on the ship regardless of whether or

2299- As I mentioned before, now you can "easily" boost your Vitality by
2300modding the Minotaur Card, and winning it back from one of the CC
2301members. I myself prefer Joker due to his low skill level. When
2302Junctioned to Meltdown, you'll need a Base Vit of at least 180 or so.
2303I went for 185 just to be safe. Don't forget about those Steel Curtains.
2304- You can also create Spd Ups by modding the Irvine Card and reacquiring
2305it from the Goth Diamond, but I was already satisfied with the boost
2306from my Triple Junction.
2307
2308
2309 \\\ Ultimecia Castle ||
2310- You'll be forced to divide into two parties right away. Furthermore,
2311the following eight powers will be sealed inside the castle: Item,
2312Magic, GF, Draw, Command Ability, Limit Break, Resurrection, Save. Every
2313time you defeat a boss (excluding Omega), you can unlock one of these.
2314Technically, all the bosses are optional and can be taken out in any
2315order you want.
2316- Don't bother spreading your GF across all six characters. Just use
2317Junction Exchange whenever you switch.
2318- Notice that as long as your GF are sealed, you can't use Menu Abilities.
2319
2320Lost & Found: 1× / 2× Megalixirs (Sphinxara) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Hall ||
2321Theft: Elixir (Sphinxaur)
2322Boss(es): Sphinxaur & Sphinxara (+ Jelleye, Forbidden, Tri-Face) (separate
2323 phases)
2324
2325[Boss]
2326- The only commands available are Attack and Mug.
2327- Sphinxara can use Magic Summon to call forth three enemies, but all
2328of them have an exceptional base xp value of 0.
2329
2330Lost & Found: Elem Atk (Trauma) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Art Gallery ||
2331Draw: Leviathan GF (Trauma)
2332Boss(es): Trauma (+ n× Dromas)
2333- After examining the paintings, return to the one with the messed title,
2334and choose Vividarium (Garden), Intervigilium (Sleep) and Viator
2335(Messenger).
2336
2337[Boss]
2338
2339Lost & Found: Diamond Armor (Red Giant) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Prison Cell ||
2340Draw: Pandemona GF (Red Giant)
2341Boss: Red Giant
2342
2343[Boss]
2344- You'll likely need Meltdown, so make sure you've unlocked your Magic.
2345
2346- The Prison Key will simply be used to get out of the cell. You can
2347use it on the other door as well, but only from the other side when
2348coming from the Waterway (where you'll find the Rosetta Stone).
2349
2350 \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Courtyard ||
2351- Examine the fountain to find the Treasure Vault Key.
2352
2353 \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Clock Tower ||
2354- Walk over to the strange object and examine it to obtain the Armory Key.
2355If it falls down, you can retrieve it at the Flood Gate.
2356- Ultimecia awaits beyond the tower (past the hidden save point), but
2357you'll likely want to unlock some more abilities.
2358
2359Lost & Found: Rocket Engine (Tri-Point) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Wine Cellar ||
2360Draw: Siren GF (Tri-Point)
2361Boss: Tri-Point
2362- Note that the hatch to the wine cellar can't be opened until you've
2363smashed it with the chandelier.
2364
2365[Boss]
2366
2367Lost & Found: Status Atk (Catoblepas) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Treasure Rm ||
2368Draw: Alexander GF (Catoblepas)
2369Boss: Catoblepas
2370- Simply open all the chests.
2371
2372[Boss]
2373- He will still be able to cast Meteor even if you drain all his MP.
2374
2375Lost & Found: Magic Armlet (Gargantua) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Armory ||
2376Draw: Cerberus GF (Gargantua)
2377Boss(es): Gargantua (+ Vysage, Lefty, Righty) (separate phases)
2378
2379[Boss]
2380- Naturally, no xp will be gained from the trio.
2381
2382Lost & Found: Elem Guard (Krysta) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Terrace ||
2383Draw: Carbuncle GF (Krysta)
2384Boss: Krysta
2385- In order to get here, have your secondary party hit the lever at the
2386Grand Hall (ie. walk into the Party Switch Point) so that your main
2387party can get across the chandelier.
2388
2389[Boss]
2390
2391- At this point you should have enough unlocked abilities to take on
2392Omega. Save and prepare at the Clock Tower, then go switch the party
2393at the Courtyard. The other group now needs to ring the bell in the
2394Stairway Hall near the Art Gallery. Quickly switch back, run into the
2395Chapel and perform any final tweaks.
2396
2397Lost & Found: Three Stars (Omega Weapon) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Chapel ||
2398Boss: Omega Weapon
2399
2400[Boss]
2401- Omega is always at Level 100 (1 161 000 HP).
2402- Assuming your Luck is high enough, you can ignore his physical attacks.
2403- The first thing he'll cast is LV5 Death, and that's the only time he'll
2404use it. After that begins the following cycle (excluding physical
2405attacks, which appear without a solid pattern - as always):
2406 1. Meteor
2407 2. Megido Flame
2408 3. Gravija
2409 4. Terra Break
2410 5. Ultima
2411 6. Light Pillar
2412 7. go to 1.
2413
2414- Here's what I did after each specific attack:
2415
2416 LV5 Death
2417- Cast Meltdown
2418- Attack with Squall
2419
2420 First Meteor
2421- Attack with Squall
2422- Heal with a Mega-Potion
2423- Cast Meltdown again if the first one didn't work
2424
2425 Megido Flame (9998 pod to all characters)
2426
2427 Gravija
2428- Squall uses a Megaelixir and then attacks if he gets any additional turns.
2429- Selphie and Zell use Defend.
2430
2431 Terra Break (12 hits at 4000 pod each, 2000 with Protect, 0 with Defend)
2432- Attack with Squall if he's alive
2433- Phoenix Down on Squall if he dies
2434
2435 Ultima
2436- Attack with Squall
2437
2438 Light Pillar
2439- Phoenix Down on the fallen character
2440- Attack with Squall if he's alive
2441
2442 Second Meteor and any subsequent Meteors
2443- Megaelixir, or Full-Cure if Selphie's in critical condition
2444- Attack with Squall
2445
2446 Megido Flame
2447- Repeat
2448
2449- I had 12 Megaelixirs and ended up using 7. You can always opt to mod
2450the Bahamut card into 100 Megalixirs.
2451- After your victory, a new section called the Proof of Omega will be
2452added into the Information menu in the Tutorial. Strangely enough, if
2453you go ring the bell now, the timer will still appear.
2454
2455Lost & Found: Status Guard (Tiamat) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Clock Tower ||
2456Draw: Eden GF (Tiamat)
2457Boss: Tiamat
2458- In order to find Tiamat, climb up the tower and jump on the swinging bell.
2459
2460[Boss]
2461
2462- If you don't care about the Rosetta Stone, you can just head to the
2463final boss.
2464
2465 \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Elevator Hall ||
2466- Put all the girls in the same party and have them standby on the
2467left Switch Point. The guys should make their way to the right Switch
2468Point (by going through the Art Gallery etc.). This should enable
2469you to access the Storage Room.
2470
2471 \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Storage Room ||
2472- The Floodgate Key can be found lying around here. You can use it to
2473unlock the lever at the Flood Gate, near the corridor leading into the
2474prison cell. Don't forget to use the lever as well.
2475
2476 \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Passageway ||
2477- This is the passageway east from the Courtyard. The gates can be opened
2478by molesting the organ at the Chapel; you'll need to hit all the keys
2479at once. Unfortunately, you won't be directly informed whether you got
2480it right or not, so you may end up running back and forth a few times.
2481
2482Item: Rosetta Stone \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Waterway ||
2483
2484Draw: Apocalypse (Ultimecia 4) \\\ Ultimecia Castle- Master Room ||
2485Boss(es): Ultimecia 1, Griever, Ultimecia 2 (+ n× Helixes),
2486 Ultimecia 3 (+ Ultimecia 4) (separate phases)
2487- Before going through the door, fill up your spell inventory with
2488anything. This way, you're less likely to lose anything vital when
2489Griever or Ultimecia 3 blows away your magic.
2490
2491[Boss]
2492- Your party may vary.
2493- Dead characters will quickly be removed from the battle completely,
2494so revive the ones you want to keep.
2495- At most, you'll face two Helixes at a time.
