The Mutani 1st

The Mutani 1st, a militaristic combat group started by/in memory of a legendary warrior who found themselves on the winning side of many battles througout history.
They're keen on utilizing emerging technology and combined magical tactics, with an emphasis on having a diverse array of training regiments, allowing them to be prepared for many different possible scenarios and missions.
They're a group that is simultaneously respected for their strength and viewed as strange, and potentially dangerous, for their odd veneration of a questionable warrior myth, their militaristic structuring, and desire to expand their influence.
They wear distinctive red uniforms, usually with grey steel chestplates and gold trimming on the cloth. Recon units and Mage units may be equipped with a red-brown strapped leather armor with no trimming and a hood, and assault units are often clad in Splint or even Plate armor, sporting the group's insignia on their chest in red and gold. Officers usually wear the conventional uniform, but with a gold trimmed red overcoat and officer's hat of the same design with the insignia of the grouo embroidered on it in red and gold.
There is a popular rumor about the group and their warrior myth, and that is that the myth is a cover-up for their true origins, that of a group of demon worshipping warmongers who are simply looking to gain power and control enough to steep the continent into mass chaos. The validity of these claims are as uncertain as the warrior myth itself. One reason this rumor has become so popular is because the founders of the group are human, though they claim it existed before them, but no accounts of such a group existing prior to these claims exists.
The Mutani 1st put in an extraordinary amount of work into maintaining a particular image. Vast sums of gold are spent to keep their troops' uniforms looking as regal and kempt as possible. Those they recruit are taught to display discipline and civility, especially to common folk. Punishments are harsh for those who cause trouble for people or otherwise make the group look bad as a whole. There is of course a reason for this, and it goes far beyond thinking highly of themselves or just being genuinely good people: it is a strategy. Their appearance and demeanor is attracts the attention of nobility and peasantry alike. The nobility see the Mutian 1st as the most dignified and distinguished mercenary company, and thus the most worthy for those of them with military ambitions to join. This is taken a step further by the fact that the Mutian 1st provide special treatment to nobles who "donate" to the group, often done by the family of the nobles involved in return for keeping them safe or moving them up the promotion ladder. It is with these funds that the second and third parts of their recruitment strategy are possible, the recruiting of common folk and mages. The Mutian 1st not only provides those who join it combat training, but the opportunity for higher learning as well, something only made possible with the large sums of coin brought in from the many noble "donations" they receive. With this mountain of reasons to join, it is easy to see how the Mutian 1st keeps its numbers so high. And the academic pursuits do not simply stop at education, as the Mutian 1st create an atmosphere quite suitable to some of the more ambitious mages, where the growth of power and seeking of knowledge is encouraged, mostly in the cases where it benefits the company in some way. This attracts mages who aren't interested in all the busywork and fees that come with joining a guild, and enjoy the prospect of being highly valued by the organization they're a part of, even if they might be seen more as a valuable asset than a valuable person.
Internally, though, the Mutani 1st are a different story. While the troops are all disciplined and trained, the organizational structure causes a sort of clique-ish nature to arise among the ranks. Squads become close knit groups over time, regiments become families, cultures and customs are created among them, and these cultures can clash and cause rivalries among each other. Of course, this has never resulted in any sort of major clash, but everybody in the company knows not to put a Mutian 33rd member in the same room as a Mutian 50th member. This is all in no small part due to the fact that the regiments are often left to act semi-indpendently, as the size of the group no longer allows for direct oversight of all companies. Additionally, people can join the Mutian 1st as young as 17, and many young people spend a good deal of their maturing ages with their squad and regiment, helping to tighten these bonds.
The founders of the Mutani 1st, or at the very least the "modern" Mutani 1st are referred to the Table of Commanders by some or "The Five" by others. I dunno about all of them but one is a wizard and he keeps all of them alive with magic, probably clone.
Recently, within the ranks of the group, individuals have started sporadically displaying magical prowess in great numbers. These people are being pushed directly into the organizations own personal magical training courses, and are being scouted out for officer positions. This has sparked MANY allegations that the group is making its first move towards some sort of power grab, which has groups on edge, and has caused a contract to fall through that would secure funds from several kingdoms in exchange for seafaring security in the wake of the big dumb storm clearing up.
