Planeswalker Rising
</div>

<div class="text">
Hello there, friend.
<br>
Don't worry, I'll get you out of this mess.
<br>
Really, though, good attempt.
<br>
<br>
Most people get stuck in the void right after their first planeswalk, but you'd have gotten yourself to another universe, if you'd waited here for a few decades.
<br><br>
Suppose I should explain this all a bit better, eh? Well, here goes the quick rundown.
<br><br>
Simply put, all universes have some way to get out of them. Yeah, universes plural.
Counting shadows of 'verses, there's infinitely many of them, but as far as truly unique ones go, nobody's quite sure about the number.
But just about all of them have some eject button.
Most of the time, it's through some of their aberrant physics, wherever it may fall on the sliding scale from magic to magitech.
<br><br>
The further you get from the center of the omniverse, the stranger things get, but most 'verses have a few constants: humans and/or humanoids,
the planetary/galactic system (you know, the whole cosmology shabang) and being influenced by other, powerful 'verses.
<br><br>
This influence usually takes the form of inspiration, leading to remarkably similar media among closely linked 'verses,
often based on powerful or influential 'verses. Like the uhh...let me check the database...huh, yeah, you called it Lord of the Rings too.
Makes sense, catchy name and all. So when the linguist Elinervos decided to come up with languages,
she gravitated towards the most common languages spoken in various 'verses that weren't present in our world.
Then, when she wrote the books, she once again gravitated towards writing stories that closely mirrored the actual events which took place in
the most influential 'verse those languages are spoken in.
<br><br>
Oh, yeah, your author of that was...a guy called Tolkien. Ok, I'll use their names, just let me pull up the full wiki. Great. So yeah.
Huh, you had the Cosmere stuff too? High-quality. Hey, and you got more right than we did!
Our author messed up so many of the allomantic metals, yours just admitted to making mistakes with brass and electrum, and changing silver to aluminum for practicality.
Our guy had them completely jumbled up. No wonder the movie deal went south.
<br><br>
Yeah, so, back on topic. Basically all 'verses are part of a cluster, that being a large number of extremely similar 'verses in a similar timeflow, relative to their center.
'Verses in a cluster tend to have similar elements, but in a different fashion to the center, such as important events happening differently or with different people doing similar things.
Some of them even have contradictory elements, such as certain people not existing, or changes to the magical system, or alternate histories, or genderflips, or...you get the point.
In addition to that, each 'verse also has infinitely many shadows, being identical 'verses which aren't, well, real.
<br><br>
The only difference between shadows is their current time, allowing a planeswalker to enter a 'verse at any stage in its history by entering a shadow currently running at that time.
Big rule here, though: any shadow which is affected by a force from outside that shadow, being planeswalkers or people messing around with intra-cluster inter-universal travel (who are NOT planeswalkers,
I don't care what they say) becomes a real universe in the cluster. The butterfly effect usually takes things from there to make the 'verses distinguishable.
<br><br>
In other words, once a planeswalker enters a shadow, that shadow becomes a full 'verse which anyone else can go to as well.
We just call these new 'verses "copies" or "shimmers", but there's no real well-defined time limit.
Some people distinguish between 'verses in a cluster which we knew somebody made from a shadow and those we don't know the origin of, but I'm one of those people who
thinks that every 'verse in a cluster was caused by meddling of one kind or another.
<br><br>
Time travel in a 'verse also works that way. You go "back in time", you go to a shadow.
If you change something, then go forward in time, you go to the future shadow of your current shadow.
Sometimes, going back to the same time will cause the shadow to collapse into the parent 'verse, which causes all sorts of wierd stuff, but that's rare.
Planar time travel, of course, is just a ludicrous concept.
<br><br>
So, here's why you care about this:
<br><br>
Basically, all officially sanctioned planeswalkers are members of the Scholars. Anyone else who planeswalks is a two-bit moron pretending to know what's going on, who stole tech,
got taken on enough rides to figure shit out, or is a pawn of an outer god. Better to not associate with them.
<br><br>
Anyways, we Scholars have a fairly structured teaching regimen for new planeswalkers.
Children or friends of planeswalkers and people of talent we recruit all attend the University on our Citidel,
so we can teach them everything they need to know before we give 'em the tech or magic to actually planeswalk.
But people like you, who figure it out on your own, you already know the basics.
We put you in the University, and what happens? You figure out the rest, take your friends on a pleasure cruise around the omniverse, and fuck shit up.
<br><br>
So no, sorry, you don't get to learn with the rest of 'em. I bet you're decent, but we can't take that risk.
As such, we cooked up a bunch of soulbound curses for you to make sure that, no matter what, you don't fuck the aforementioned shit up.
Because one of the designers of this system, Archmage Err, was a big fan of "freedom of choice" (so big a fan that he killed an outer god, took its power,
and is now off somewhere threatening everyone with anihilation if they bother him) we've got some lovely options for you to choose from.
It's because of the other designer, Archmage Etrip, that these options are well-constructed, serve a purpose, and do not involve ridiculous hats.
<br><br>
You're going to pick what you want, and then spend quite a lot of time gaining practical knowledge until you fulfil all our requirements,
at which point you'll be trustworthy enough to join the University at the post-planeswalking level to finish your education.
<br><br>
<div class="title">You begin with 100 points of <span style="color:yellow; text-shadow: none;"> bonuses</span> and 100 points worth of <span style="color:red; text-shadow: none;"> requirements</span>.</div>
<br>
You cannot end with negative bonus points, and you want to minimize your requirement points.
Options that cost bonus points will be in <span style="color:yellow; text-shadow: none;"> yellow</span>, while requirement points will be in <span style="color:red; text-shadow: none;"> red</span>.
<br>
You will likely not be able to spend all of your requirement points, and so you will need to work them off over time.
<br><br>
Once you finish making your choices, I'll send you back to where you left, where you can get ready for your very first planeswalk.
</div>

<div class="text">
<div class="bigtitle"> Origin </div>

Science
</div>
Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Your 'verse is almost completely nonmagical, so it makes sense that you'd have the extraplanar access there.
<br><br>
Well, if you're a scientist, then you probably have a great deal of discipline and intelligence already.
<br><br>
As such, I'll give you access to our high-tech stuff, since you have the brains to use them.

Arcana
</div>
So, you found some magic in that dry 'verse of yours?
I get that, since I'm from a place where the only magic was going into other peoples' dreams.
Really low-level magic, since it was a global thing that everyone was equally good at.
<br><br>
Since you're already arcane-minded, you should take well to higher forms of magic, and so I'll give you access to the high-end arcane stuff.
</div>
<div class="choice">
<div class="choice-image c3"></div>
<div class="header2">
Thaumaturgy
</div>
Well, we didn't know you even had any thaumaturgy. Most 'verses with planar-capable thaumaturgy at least have more mysticism,
if not active divine intervention.
<br><br>
Maybe you found a ritual that actually worked, but I bet you didn't expect to end up here.
<br><br>
Still, though, such spiritualism should prepare you well for highly theological thaumaturgies.
</div>
<div class="choice">
<div class="choice-image c4"></div>
<div class="header2">
Literally No Idea
</div>
So that explains the shell-shocked expression. And here I thought it was just my fashion sense. Look, I'm sorry.
You got hit by something weird.
<br><br>
If you want, I'll hang around for a few days and help you adjust.
If either of us decides that it isn't going to work, though, I'll take you home.
<br><br>
If we ever have to bail you out again, expect questions.
</div>
<br>
Oh, what's the difference between arcana and thaumaturgy? Arcana is more like science, where you use well-defined forces to do things.
Think of telekinesis, where you just apply an acceleration to an object. Arcana requires research, study, all that sort of thing,
and everything has to be planned out, since spells just don't "know" how to work.
<br><br>
Thaumaturgy, on the other hand, is soft and conceptual. Think of enchanting a door to open if you say the password.
How does the door hear the words? How does it understand accents and various pronunciations?
Well, it's a conceptual thing, so you don't need to worry about it. Trying to do that with arcana would be a literal nightmare.
Imagine trying to encode voice recognition in runes or something, just impossible.
It's hard to do that with normal tech, let alone magic.
<br><br>
So most wizardry is based on arcana, as one would expect. Thaumaturgy just isn't as versatile, and so often is tied explicitly to a single universe.
The only really useful planar thaumaturgies involve connective magic, like linking similar objects, or divine magic.
Wherever gods are, you get their flavor of thaumaturgy, and so planar gods, which most people call outer gods, have their magic accessible everywhere their influence is.
For the most part, that's a good tenth of the Omniverse, so it's definitely worth your while to learn some, eventually.
<br><br>
Of course there are some blurred lines, like with manipulatable concepts and gods which define arcanic systems, but usually things are fairly clear cut.
As a rule of thumb, if you do the thinking, it's arcana, while if the spell does the thinking, it's thaumaturgy.
</div>

<div class="text">
<div class="bigtitle"> Requirement </div>
Now, it's time to pick your poison. For your education, you will have to complete a long and arduous task in order to properly mature.
<br><br>
Each option here has a whole host of suboptions, so after you make your choice, we'll go through the global options and then your specific suboptions.
If you want, I'll tell you all the options for everything, but don't get stuck analyzing. We're not trying to torture you here.
<br><br>
Just so you know, though, death for a planeswalker is not the end.
It's more like getting painfully kicked out of a universe, but we can always get back in.
It'd take a powerful 'versal god to actually kill you, or another planeswalker.
Also don't irritate any outer gods, those guys could erase you on a conceptual level.
<br><br>
Don't worry about counting either, you'll always know how much more you have to do.
<br><br>
<div class="choice long">
<div class="choice-image c5"></div>
<div class="header2">
Wanderer
</div>
This is the easiest option, but don't expect to finish this millenium.
Well, I'll be honest, most of these will take centuries, but the Wanderer package is built solely on making you live a really long time.
<br><br>
The summary of this one is pretty simple: you go from 'verse to 'verse until the the number of 'verses you've spent at least fifty years in hits a certain limit.
You're lucky, since your world has the Omniversal Standard Year, so there won't be any adjustment there.
<br><br>
Unlike the other options, once you're in a 'verse, you really don't have to do anything but live your life.
The idea is, it's a low-risk way to force you to have so many experiences that you understand the big picture view of the Omniverse, and what our place as planeswalkers in it is.
</div>
<div class="choice long">
<div class="choice-image c6"></div>
<div class="header2">
Academic
</div>
This option is all about learning.
<br><br>
You have to go to a certain number of 'verses and learn stuff there. You can learn whatever you like, so long as it's different and in a sufficient quantity.
Mastering their magical system is usually a safe bet, though, along with learning their history. Those are almost always different enough to count.
<br><br>
You'll know how much more you have to learn in a subject to complete it, so if you're not making progress, that's a good sign that it's not different enough.
Gotta love planar thaumaturgy, right? Just don't question it, go with it.
<br><br>
A popular choice for bookworms. We had one guy finish in under a century, but he was an absolute genius, incredibly handsome, astoundingly powerful, and me.

Adventurer
</div>
If you take this, every new 'verse you visit will be on the brink of a major conflict, disaster, or other difficult problem.
Your job is to pick a side and win.
<br><br>
Once you win in enough 'verses, you're done. This is a good option for people who like excitement, or to take part in important events,
but some do tire of the constant action, since it's hard to relax in the middle of it all.
<br><br>
Most find it quite fulfilling to be continually helping people, though, and apparently the peace at the end is nice.
<br><br>
Expect to be continually challenged, though, since the issue will never be easy to resolve, whichever side you pick.
Also, remember, you can't win them all. Some people just give up after some bad luck. Don't let that be you.

<div class="choice long">
<div class="choice-image c8"></div>
<div class="header2">
Prodigal
</div>
I recommend that you pick one of the other three options. This is just here because, well, Err has a hell of an ego.
<br><br>
The backstory: traditionally, students at the University who break rules about forbidden magic are punished with tasks, desgined to humble or challenge them.
Well, if you really messed up (and don't get expelled or executed), you got the worst one: ditched on a backwater 'verse, and told to come home without any help from anyone.
<br><br>
Few have succeeded, with only one person making it back in under a year. That would be Err, who got back in eight days. We still have no idea how he did it.
<br><br>
You'll get some stuff to make it easier, but this is a difficult choice. You get a lot of respect if you do it, though.
</div>
</div>

<div class="text">
<div class="bigtitle"> Global Options </div>
Right, so, the following apply no matter what you decide to do.
<br><br>
<div class="title"> Planeswalking </div>
<br>
So, how'd you like to planeswalk? You'll be able to revisit any 'verse you've been to before, but the next one is up to random chance.
You could end up in the most boring or chaotic of 'verses, you could end up in shadows of the same 'verse twice in a row, you never know.
We'll steer you clear of lethal, forbidden, or unmapped 'verses, though. Can't be too careful, and some are nasty.
<br><br>
Also, just so you know, every 'verse you will enter will be a shadow. I'm afraid that we can't allow you access to established 'verses, with some few exceptions I will state later.
<br><br>
By default, you will be able to planeswalk to a new 'verse after a certain point. If you're a Wanderer, then that's 50 years after your last new planeswalk.
If you're an Academic, it's after you learn a discipline in your last new 'verse.
If you're an Adventurer, it's after the confict is decided, one way or another, in your last new 'verse.
If you're a Prodigal, it's at will. I can guarentee you, though, you won't find the Citidel by chance.
<br><br>
Note also that although you'll always arrive in a new 'verse at your physical age right now, you will age normally thereafter in a 'verse.
<br>
Also, you're now an omniglot. Any language spoken by sapients, you can understand and, if physically possible, speak. Also works for writing, if you have a sample.
<br><br>
Pick as many of the following options as you like. These are what you start with, and it's technically possible to improve them or gain others, but it's really hard to do this on your own.
<br><br>I mean, even I only figured out two of them, and my IQ's almost as big as my ego.

Normally, you don't get to bring friends. However, with this, you can designate up to two other people who, when you next planeswalk, can follow.
<br><br>
They don't have to if they don't want to, and designating new people requires that the old ones be returned to their 'verse or be dead.
They share the options you have from the first two rows, but age normally and don't have the ability to speak all languages.

The real kicker about this beauty is that, during your travels, you can mark people, who can then freely planeswalk into this demiplane and back to their 'verse, just like you.

As I said before, death is definitely not the end. However, it can be the end of your time in a 'verse, and it's always uncomfortable.
<br><br>
By default, if you die in a 'verse, you never return. If you die in a new 'verse, then you can planeswalk to the next new one immediately.
<br><br>
And oh, by the way, don't kill yourself to get out of a 'verse. Trying to game the system like that triggers failsafes which you do not want to experience.
It's not worth it, ever. It's ok if you don't try real hard to live, but just don't let yourself die.
<br><br>
As a courtesy, you won't ever experience an afterlife, unless something like a god specifically takes you into one.
<br>
You'll just wake up a day later in a different place.

For X bonus points, you get 5 + 2X deaths. Respawning is just like planeswalking back in, where you appear at some location in starting gear a day later.

It also grants some resistance to emotional reading and emotional control, meaning that empaths can only sense vague emotions and can only mildly influence them.

A controlled planeswalker could do incredible damage, so we make damn sure that it's impossible, whether through technological or magical means.

<div class="title"> Planar Magic </div>
<br>
Before you go off on your grand quest, I can teach you some planar magics.
<br><br>
All magic, planar and otherwise, is stronger in 'verses with more existing magic, and weaker in 'verses with less.
So your 'verse, basically no magic, the strongest anyone could do is throw a bit of fire or do a close-range zap.
<br>
But a 'verse with a lot of magic, then planar stuff is just raw power, plain and simple.
<br><br>
Planar arcana is entirely intellectual, requiring only thought and focus, not words or gestures or other ingredients.
<br>
Planar thaumaturgy often does involve these, but only as conceptual components, like destroying a personal item for loss or using gold for greed or the like.
<br><br>
That kind of ingredient consumption, though, is for outer god planar thaumaturgy, which you do not want to mess with for now.
This is metamagic planar thaumaturgy, so the only component you need is thought and, ususally, meditation or a moment of focus.
<br><br>
Regardless, both require understanding above all else.
<br><br>
For these simple spells, I can put a tick in your mind that will help you understand them, but to actually master them, you're going to need to work at it.
<br><br>
Due to some people being startingly reluctant to try this, you cannot take fewer than two spells. Not that it matters, eh? You're not some antimaj degenerate.

Planar runic magic is, in my opinion, the best there is.
You can do just about anything with it, there are so many fields to explore, and everything stems from mathematical theory. Just lovely, beautiful magic.
<br><br>
If you take this, you'll take your first steps into a world of wonder, and we'll give you the basic rules and a hundred starting runes.

What can you do from there? Whatever you want.

A note about planar elements, before we get into them: learn a bit of one, and it's pretty easy to get the rest of it.
It'll take a few decades to master, minimum, but there's no real reason to take more than one spell from each element, which you get for free with the 10 point cost.

<br><br>
If you really want to focus on an element or two, you can take one extra spell for one bonus point, and get all four for two bonus points.
<br>
Worth noting though: this is the only time you'll have bonus points that aren't a multiple of five. Yeah, I think it's stupid, but I guess we didn't want a knapsack problem.
<br><br>
Your learning of an element, of course, will depend on the spell you choose, like offensive versus thaumaturgy versus whatever, but odds are you'll pick the flavor you like the most anyways.
<br><br>
Mixtures exist, of course, like magnetism being a cross between metal and electricity. You'd need both to easily get there, though. And by easily, I mean decades instead of centuries.
<br><br>
Planar magic is way more difficult than it has any right to be. A few years of study is good enough for most anything in 'versal magic, but planar takes orders of magnitude longer.
<br><br>
Also, there are over a hundred elements, but we chose 16 because of simplicity and multiples of four or something.

Ah, but I imagine you're asking yourself, what if I want to use 'versal magic in another verse?
<br><br>
Well, there's a solution for that. A deep, personal connection with a 'verse allows one to carry a version of that magic out.
<br>
That's why so many planeswalkers have the magic of their home 'verse, and why some people are secretive about their homes because they don't want people to know what they can do.
<br><br>
So you're at a bit of a disadvantage, since your 'verse had basically nothing magical, but this does mean that if you should find a new home, you'd probably be able to forge a connection within a few decades if you really tried to.
It's gotta be a real connection, though, from the heart. Getting multiple 'verses is a matter of time and personal investment, so most don't do it.
<br><br>
Just remember that the magic you get, as with planar magic, diminishes in power in lower-magic worlds.
It's a useful rule of thumb that, whever you go, there's almost always someone who can take you out 1v1.

Decided to play it safe, eh? Well, can't say I blame you.
<br><br>
Being a Wanderer is all about perspective. You can only count each 'verse once, so there's technically no reason to stay longer than 50 years anywhere,
but you'll quickly find that there are some places you'd like to stay longer, and other places you never want to see again.
<br><br>
Unlike the other options, you aren't forced to remain anywhere you don't want to be.
Your new planeswalks can take place fifty years after the last one, so if you want to skip a bad 'verse, just live for fifty years somewhere else, and hope the next new 'verse will be more comfortable.
<br><br>
Strictly speaking, no matter the path you choose, there's no reason you can't just live comfortably in your home 'verse forever, but you'd never, ever, reach your true potential.
<br><br>
<div class="title"> Details </div>
<br>
Now, you get to tailor your experience. First off, the default: <span style="color:red;text-shadow:none;"> it costs one requirement point to have to live fifty years in a 'verse.</span>
So, if you spent all 100 default points here, you'd have to spend, at bare minimum, 5,000 years wandering.
<br><br>
I understand if that seems...overzealous, but it more means that you'll have to live a hundred lives.
<br><br>
Besides, if you want to join in the culture or politics of the Scholars, we have a lot of people in your position whose mentors (coming later, I promise) take them to the citidel.
If you want that too, try to impress your mentors, and maybe they'll help. You're not a Prodigal, so that's ok. Not that there are many Prodigals, haha.
<br><br>
But yeah, you can choose from these options below as well as the global ones.

<br><br>
Planeswalking to a new 'verse takes only as long as learning one new subject in your last new 'verse, so maybe only a few years (my record was five and a half months).

<br>
Now, you get to tailor your experience. First off, the default: <span style="color:red;text-shadow:none;"> it costs one requirement point to have to learn two new subjects.</span>
Timewise, it's pretty hard to get a good estimate, but the level of mastery it takes to learn a subject is pretty well defined.
For mundane subjects, think doctorate level (or postdoc for something like psychology or sociology), for magical arts, think absolute mastery.
Officially, there's some explicit level, like the 10% of somebody, but you'll just always know how far you have to go to have a subject "learned", so it doesn't really matter.
<br><br>
Things that always count: magic, history, philosophy. Things that never count: art (performance or otherwise), sports (with the exception of complex, culture-specific martial arts), weird fad stuff like "gardening" or "water park design".
<br><br>
Honestly, it's a better practice to learn multiple things from the same 'verse, because there's always some crossover.
Sure, you only get cooking once, but physics, quantum physics, and astrophysics are all seperate, same with different periods in history, and each large genre of magic.
And don't forget, there are like twenty different branches of mathematics, all of which count. I highly recommend picking those up as soon as possible.
<br><br>
Word of advice, though: using magic isn't the same thing as understanding it. Copying runes or having an innate ability is well and good, but you didn't learn anything there.

When planeswalking to a new 'verse, you can choose up to five adjectives to describe society. Things from "happy" to "mystic" to "capitalistic" work,
but if you use this to get around technological or magical limitations, it'll fail.
<br><br>
Some things, like "honest" or "intellectual", work well, but a friend of mine got drunk and did "horrifying" and "nymphomaniac". Didn't turn out well.

<div class="bigtitle"> Prodigal Options </div>
Oh. Oh dear. Look, we've only ever had thirty-some people go this route, and only six have yet succeeded, and they're all Archmages by now.
<br>
Unless you're convinced that you're really some hot stuff, don't do this.
<br><br>
Well, if I can't dissuade you, here goes.
<br><br>
You will not be expected to discover the Citidel without some help.
The mentor(s) you choose will help you, giving you certain objectives to complete which will lead you closer to a solution.
<br>
Sometimes this may be the solution they see, not the one you're thinking of, but they're definitely trying to help.
<br>
It will not be easy, though. These objectives may be scavenger hunts, quests, solving problems of planeswalking, conducting research, anything.
<br><br>
This will often be similar to the mentor's normal assignments, so Alec would expect travel and wisdom, Tal would want you to fight outer gods and their cultists,
Carl would have you finding solutions to equations, Err would, uh, do something, probably with hats. But as you can see, the path is by no means straight.
<br><br>
If it helps, all six who succeeded each had two mentors. Four had Alec, two had Tal, three had Carl, and three had Err, which is why I mentioned them.
They're the only four mentors who coached someone through it.
<br><br>
Maybe that's coincidence, but I don't know.
<br>
I do know, though, that four of the six discovered something completely new, which made us adjust our wards to compensate.
<br>
So to succeed, it seems, you will need to go places no one's gone before.
<br><br>
Somewhere all six did go, however, was to other, non-Scholar planeswalkers.
<br>
We do hold a monopoly on legitimate, artful planeswalking, but there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other groups who do it with varying levels of skill.
<br>
All six, at some point, encountered at least one of these groups, and all spent some time with them learning their methods.
<br>
I would assume this similarity is intentional, and that you would do well to follow in their footsteps.
<br><br>
<div class="title"> Details </div>
<br>
Now, you get to tailor your experience. First off, the default: <span style="color:red;text-shadow:none;"> taking this option costs 110 requirement points.</span>
<br>
Yes, by default, you now have -10 requirement points. Use them as you like.
<br>
You cannot end with positive requirement points remaining, however.
<br><br>
Now, you might notice with the following options that many are recycled.
Well, not so much recycled as getting all three corresponding options from the previous choices at a third of the price.
<br>
In my opinion, this is a real deal. Grab them all, I'd say. Spend 45 bonus points here, just do it.
<br><br>
If you'd like my theory on why it's like this, I think this whole requirement option is a trap.
It's to prevent the arrogant from finishing, unless they're also exceptionally talented.
<br>
This recycling of ideas is probably due to a lack of motivation to come up with good choices for an option few would choose,
and the blatant cheapness is to give the aforementioned talented Prodigals a chance of success.
<br>
The real test of skill is in using what your mentors tell you to continually get closer and closer, which is why I think it's included in this requirement.
<br><br>
Or, at least, that's the theory. My theory is that they don't, which is why only about a fifth have finished.

<div class="bigtitle"> Interpersonal Options </div>
Naturally, we're not going to expect you to do this all alone. Everybody needs somebody, and as I alluded to before, you're going to be getting two kinds of relationships, namely, connections and mentors.
<br><br>
<div class="title"> Connections </div>
<br>
Your connections will be fellow trainee planeswalkers like you, mostly in the early stages of their paths, and you'll be quite likely to end up in the same 'verses as they do.
Don't really worry about ages, those don't matter so much for us.
We all feel pretty youthful, and being ten thousand years old versus five hundred ain't much of a difference, personality-wise.
<br><br>
When you planeswalk to a new 'verse, there'll be a decent chance of showing up in a 'verse a connection of yours is already in.
When this happens, you'll know it, and you'll know whose 'verse you're in. Moreover, you'll know their current face, and general location, and they'll be alerted to your presence as well.
<br>
If you want, your first 'verse can even be with one of them.
<br><br>
By default, you get three connections. Each connection you take past that gives you an additional <span style="color: red; text-shadow: none;">three requirement points.</span>
<br><br>
These planeswalkers you see here are those our algorithm thought you'd be compatible with, who opted into being a connection for others.
<br>
If you'd like to be a connection for others, write a short statement about yourself, and we'll give you another three connections.
From time to time, we'll also ask you to update it. Keep it fresh, you know?
<br><br>
If someone ever takes you as a connection, by the way, we'll inform you. Give you a short summary of them, their statement if they wrote one, et cetera.

so a lot of the higher theory was on magical synergies.
<br><br>
It should come as no surprise, then, that since he was able to attune himself to every single magical system from his home 'verse,

Most of the rest of the reason is that I'm trying to build something kinda like a cafe/country club/bank for people like us, using my demiplane to do it.

Germor is a born leader. He and his brother, Bramor, were born in a time of global conflict to high-up members of the aristocracy, and were raised accordingly.

As the elder, Germor was trained in politics, strategy, and administration.
He has continued this education under Archmages Dralivar and Itishi, and has become exceptionally successful as an Adventurer, completing
eight 'verses in twenty years.

Hello, friend,
<br>
I am Germor, and my brother and I are looking to form a team, of sorts.
In essence, we'd like to have an alliance of planeswalkers, who work together to finish their quests.
We'll all get done faster, working together, to say nothing of the companionship along the way.
<br><br>
Currently, my brother Bramor, myself, and Justyna Kupka are the only ones involved, but since both Bramor and Justyna can take two people with them, wherever they go,
we have room for two more. If you also can take Companions, though, that would be a great aid for further expansion of our group.

He is a master of melee weaponry, the low-level guns of his home 'verse, and numerous combat-ready magics, both planar and nonplanar.
His lack of skill in diplomacy and inexperience with rough living are more than compensated by his brother, who can always make friends and gather funds.
<br><br>
Being quite the heroic character, he's been roped into Archmage Tal's war, and seems to have impressed the guy.

We're trying to get together a few people to make things go faster, and have some fun with it.
<br><br>
The current strategy is to show up in a world, figure out what's going on, pick the nicest group who have a chance of winning, and get 'em to win.
Then we stick around for a few months, make sure everyone's doing well, finish educations in a topic or two if you're Justyna, and then move on.
The one where we had to stop a pandemic was the toughest, by far.
<br><br>
So yeah, if that sounds good to you, join up! We try to be pretty pragmatic, so long as we avoid cruelty or war crimes or stuff like that,

<br><br>
Magically, she chose all four Scientific Origin options and Dimension, and is working on those, along with learning how to fight.

So as you saw, I'm part of the Pleyrtion Gang. Pretty good deal. We've got a good mix of skills, magic, mentors, all of it.

Very nice, the mentors part especially. Two out of three don't bother you, but you still get the tips and tricks.

It's not like teamwork's degrading. Demiplane's sweet too.

Side note, disclaimer, etc. I've promised to marry one of them, so that's off the table.
That decision's been tough, though, so if you're a woman who'd be interested in one or the other, try your luck.
If it works out, I'll pick the other one. Good guys, both of them.

Pieki Revanei is the second person in this list with some sort of supernatural companion.
In her case, it's the shade of her grandfather, who was apparently a powerful necromancer in his 'verse.
Just like with everything else, though, he's far weaker in 'verses with less magic.
In mundane 'verses, he can only speak to her, but in high magic, he can manifest as an archwraith and affect the living.
<br><br>
She's going the Adventurer route, and has won two for three 'verses in ten years.
Quite the energetic person, she's currently working through a comp sci degree in one 'verse while learning to become an assassin in another.
<div class="letter">
Heya stranger,
<br>
I'm Pieki Revanei, necromancer and aspiring potter! I'm kinda nineteen, kinda twenty-nine, been here for three years so maybe twenty-two?
Anyway, I'm currently going one-and-one, but it looks good for this one. Don't wanna jinx it, though!
<br><br>
So once I get this worked out, I'm thinking I'm going to try for a tech degree in a sciency world, the one I succeeded in.
Never seen much of that before, so really looking forward to it! I kinda lucked through that, though.
<br><br>
Well, I want to be better trained before I go for the next one, so that's the next few years.
Not very exciting, I know, but hey, if you want to just learn stuff, that would be fun.
And, you know, I can let gramps sleep for a bit, if needed. He doesn't need to see what I see all the time, after all.
</div>

You do have a small chance of running into people you didn't choose, and people you weren't offered.
<br>
Our new 'verse algorithms are quite well-tuned, though, so you're far more likely to run into Joe Schmoe who's doing the same thing as you than
Blowing a Bubble Ring to Trap and Confuse a Small Red Fish at Dusk the telekinetic Adventurer dolphin.
<br><br>
Yeah, Bubble Ring, as we call him, is one of only two non-humanoids ever to be Scholars or Scholars-in-training.
The other one's Pip the chaos crow (she's a crow that loves chaos, not some different species), who recently became an Archmage of Entropy.
<br>
Oddly, we also have a lot of cats who planeswalk, but they don't show any sign of being anything but normal cats, so we just send them back.
One of the great mysteries, I suppose.
<br><br>
Oh yeah, speaking of great mysteries, your 'verse has, very recently, produced an astounding number of planeswalkers.
Normally, we don't let people from the same 'verse be connected, but if you know any of them, we'll make an exception.

<div class="title"> Mentors </div>
<br>
We're not going to let you go off without supervision, oh no.
<br><br>
Twelve Archmages have generously decided to dedicate some of their time to helping trainees like you.
<br><br>
Each of them has their own ideas about what are important, what you should strive for, what you should do, that sort of thing.
<br>
In other words, they're going to want you to act a certain way or perform certain tasks.
Listen to them, and they'll probably show you some cool tricks and help you out, but irritate them or, worse, ignore them, and you'll regret it.
<br><br>
"Subtle and quick to anger" may be a true idiom, but the subtle part doesn't apply to other planeswalkers.
<br><br>
Taking one, the bare minimum, costs nothing.
<br>
Taking two costs <span style="color: red; text-shadow: none;">five requirement points.</span>
<br>
Taking four costs <span style="color: red; text-shadow: none;">ten requirement points.</span>
<br>
Taking seven costs <span style="color: red; text-shadow: none;">fifteen requirement points.</span>
<br>
Taking all twelve costs <span style="color: red; text-shadow: none;">twenty requirement points.</span>
<br><br>
If you take a lot of them, they're going to run you ragged on odd tasks and little missions.
The time you save by not working off the points, you'll almost certainly spend convincing them to let you progress. Good luck.
<br>
In order to actually finish your requirements, all of them have to sign off on you attending the university. So don't piss any off.
<br><br>
Oh yeah, and don't try to fight them. They're the next best thing to an outer god incarnate, and they can hold grudges way better.
<br>
I mean, hell, Err <i>is</i> an outer god at this point, kinda.

Master of Technology and Archmage of Planeswalking (although he probably is an Archmage of other things as well),
Jylx is our liaison to several prominant multiversal groups.
<br><br>
He was born into the Elder Gatekeeprs of the Wide Multi-Focus cluster, a group which excels at "planeswalking" between 'verses
in this remarkably large and influential cluster. Following the seemingly accidental influence of an outer god
which caused many of these 'verses to calamitously converge, their ability to "planeswalk" was severely damaged,
and so Jylx reached out to us for help.
<br><br>
Due to this, he's become well-known in many circles, both as the man who sold out and the man who became a Master, the highest rank in the Omniverse.
<br><br>
As one would imagine given his origin in a high-tech world, he's astoundingly proficient technically, and would probably be the Master of Quantum Physics,
if he weren't so secretive that he doesn't openly show his abilities.
<br><br>
Jylx is an exceptionally private person, which is a kind way of saying he's as paranoid as they come.
He's not very talkative, nor is he inclined towards sentimentality, but he is a very lenient and hands-off mentor.
<br><br>
He teaches through assigning tasks, usually towards some greater end. You can do whatever you want, but you have to get the job done if you want his respect.

He likes to teach, hence his inclusion in this list, but his lessons are far more moralistic than intellectual.
<br><br>
The hundreds of millenia he's lived have given him great persepctive, though, and he is wise beyond belief.

If you choose him as a mentor, he'll try to impart what he's learned to you, and help you to see your purpose in a world so devoid of meaning.
<br><br>
More than anything, he'll teach you how to live, both with others and with yourself.
<br><br>
His teaching style is discussion-based, often including his other students, and his judgement comes in pride and disappointment,
never anger. Disappointment is sometimes worse, though.
<br><br>
If you're a Wanderer, I can't imagine not picking Alec.
Despite what his wry personality may suggest, the depths of his wisdom and experience make him a stellar mentor for those with millenia to live.
<div class="letter">
Hello there,
<br><br>
I am Alec, an instructor of philosophy.
<br><br>
My extra-University group, composed of individuals like yourself, now contains upwards of thirty students, and I would be honored if you would join us too.
<br><br>
We discuss philosophies from universes great and small, though none are insignificant.
We will also discuss the differences between a universe-enforced morality and all other methods of enforcement,
and give some explanation as to how we can reconcile these differences in a global context.

Master of Outer Defense and Void, Archmage of Light, Dimension, Time, Silver, and Theology, Tal Dynnian is responsible for managing and waging our war
against the outer gods, who would destroy the omniverse if they could hold power over what's left.
Given the way they're going about it, fighting one another on more levels of reality than can be comprehood, such destruction is a certainty.
So Tal, and his forces, resist them.
<br><br>
Fortunately, we do have some help. Death's Daughter and her acolytes are our allies, along with numerous cultist groups of Death and the Golden God,
both of whom have made it clear to their servants that they want the omniverse to remain as it is.
<br><br>
But Tal is our greatest fighter, and has personally ensured the downfall of half a dozen lesser outer gods.
<br><br>
Currently, he's tracking down cultist terrorists, and would very much like any student of his to join him in this.
<br><br>
He'll expect true dedication and force of will in the face of absolutely powerful entities,
and will reward such composure with every tip and trick he knows.

Personally, he's...an eccentric guy. He cares much more than he lets on, but he's much happier fighting or drinking than talking.

Master of Psyonics, Archmage of Air, Fire, Water, Cold, Void, and Runes, Alyiele is a frankly terrifying person.
<br><br>
That isn't due to her humorless personality, her unnerving intellect, or her combat ability (second only to Archmage Esfas),
but her unnaturally strong psyonics. Combining 'versal magic with planar, augmented by her force of will, has made her the only mortal
in the omniverse who can break through the Planeswalker's Lock.
<br><br>
She can read thoughts, influence them, and even probe a Scholar's mind for information.
Technically, the Scholars have no forbidden magic, but this is very close.
She can't openly teach her students the techniques required, but I'm pretty sure she still does.
<br><br>
They're not as powerful as she is, but my experiments make it clear that they can read thoughts.
<br><br>
Alyiele was born into a fractured world, and quickly grew to rule it from the shadows.
Her philosophy of power is one should try to not be considered powerful, but instead control those who are.
<br><br>
She will expect you to act in accordance with this, and to become an influential person in all of your 'verses, but have your influence be clandestine.
<br><br>
Being a myth is just about as blatant as you should get, if you want to remain on her good side.
Acts of heroism are rarely tolerated.

You can take them, if you want.

This lends further urgency to the true nature of power.

Sir Jane Tyrath

Archmage of Force, Heal, Detect Lies, and Light, Jane is something of an oddity among us.
<br><br>
I will be honest, we Scholars tend to not be the most sentimental or, well, philanthropic people.
We devote our time to our chosen topics, refining the few subjects which we are interested in, not trying to help people.
<br><br>
In fact, we generally think that trying to help people isn't worth it, since there are so many people in so many 'verses.
<br><br>
Jane, however, disagrees. She thinks that, by helping a 'verse to overcome its problems and advancing it technologically and magically,
we'll build a network of friendly 'verses which, eventually, we'll be able to bring into some planeswalking empire to bring peace and advancement to more 'verses, and so on and so forth.
A noble idea, to be sure, but it's a very long endeavour.
<br><br>
She'll definitely have you help her, particularly if you're an Adventurer, and expect to spend a lot of time checking up on 'verses to make sure things haven't gone south.
<br><br>
As you would expect from someone with such humanitarian idealism, Jane is an uncommonly kind woman.
She is an expert combatant, a magnificent diplomat, and an accomplished support mage, and she attempts to resolve conflict with as little violence as possible.

I know this must all be overwhelming, but this is, unfortunately, the only chance you will get to determine the coming centuries, millenia even, of your life.
<br><br>
I urge you to consider what you want to do with your life, now that it has been so greatly extended.
Most of us (nearly all, in fact) spend their eternities studying their magic, enjoying the security magic gives, or fighting grand wars against the gods.

Carl Gauss
</div>
Master of Mathematics and Physics, Archmage of Time, Dimension, Quantum, and Relativistic, you might recognize his name.
Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss is a name which appears over and over, always as a transdisciplinary genius
who causes a great leap forward in every field he applies himself to.
<br><br>
With so many brilliant minds, it is no wonder that, several thousand years ago, one of them became a planeswalker.
<br><br>
Mathematics is the one great constant across all 'verses, and so Carl has devoted himself to putting names and equations to
the physics systems which, so often, are not so regular.
<br><br>
In this venture, he is aided by Ila and sometimes Etrip, and it's a common joke at the University that you can tell if Carl
came up with a theorem or equation if it doesn't have someone's name on it, due to the sheer amount of the progress he's made.
<br><br>
Magically, he's weak for an Archmage, and he rarely travels these days, but his mind makes him one of the most prominant figures in
the Scholars, respected by everyone who's ever had a math class.
<br><br>
He believes that, through mathematics, one can expose the "immortal nucleus of the human soul", and is willing to teach students of great talent,
although his perfectionism sometimes makes it difficult to pry things out of him which he doesn't believe he truly knows.
<div class="letter">
Remember, student, that it is not knowledge, but the act of learning, not possession but the act of getting there, which grants the greatest enjoyment.
When you have clarified and exhausted a subject, then you should turn away from it, in order to go into darkness again.
<br><br>

Take any chemical process, he can tell you everything about it.
He even can mix 'versal biochemistries together to form monstrosities or fascinating creatures, depending on your perspective.
<br><br>
I wish I had the stomach for it, because I'm on the "fascinating creature" side, but I can't stand dissecting things.

<br><br>
She is the quintessential arcane geek, and has been so her entire life.
She was born to Scholar arcanists, she was raised in the arcanist tradition of logic puzzles and mathematics,
and when she attended the University, she did little else but study arcana, where her magnum opis was her work on converting energy between elements and between planar and 'versal sources.
<br><br>
As one would expect from such a background, she's quite the elitist, and looks down upon thaumaturgists.
So, naturally, she tasks her students with arcane work, and considers studying thaumaturgy as a useless distraction.
<br><br>
Notola is not harsh or strict, however. She's an understanding teacher, whose love for teaching comes from inspiring others to study arcana.

Master of Beasts, Life, Nature, and Alchemy, Archmage of Death, Soul, and Water, Enalin Alena is the only non-human mentor you can choose.
<br><br>
It's a fact that the vast majority of civilized life in the omniverse is human, so the vast majority of planeswalkers are too.
Add to this most elven cultures' distaste for radical forms of magic, the predilection for non-human non-elf races to not study higher magics,
and the unfortunate racism of the first few generations of planeswalkers, and you see why so many Archmages are human.

She will expect you to care for animals and the enviroment, obviously, but also to engage in the sort of research which the inhabitants of a 'verse cannot or have not yet done.
<br><br>
She tends to give students who do well pets, usually the small dragons which her species domesticated some time ago.
They're fiesty critters, but very loyal and highly intelligent.
<div class="letter">
Greetings.
<br><br>
I am Archmage Enalin Alena, and I care for the natural world and all things thereof.
I am looking for students who are willing to help me study multi-planar evolution (divergent, convergent, and parallel) and
some of the rarest archetypes of animals in the omniverse.
<br><br>
For smaller tasks, I will expect you to work alone, but for more dangerous or senstive endeavours, I will assign teams,
so as to have a wider range of skills.
<br><br>
Expect to work often with those of my kind, since my species is far more attuned to nature than most.
<br><br>
This kind of work is its own reward, but I will instruct you in the care of animals whose existence is tied to their reality.

Dralivar and Itishi
</div>
Dralivar and Itishi have been married for a millenia and a half now, and so do just about everything together.
They came from the same 'verse, hold Archmage rank in the same magics, those being Force, Heal, and Augmentations, and share the title Master of Leadership.
<br><br>
Very often, particularly for trainees following the Adventurer path, a planeswalker needs to take and hold authority.
Dralivar and Itishi not only lead the Scholars' administrative wing, but also act as instructors in how to properly obtain and use power.
<br><br>
They're stern, pragmatic, and quite unforgiving of any sort of disobediance, foolishness, or lack of decorum.
That being said, their ability to lead others is nothing short of miraculous. Dralivar focuses on wartime, while Itishi focuses on peacetime,
and together, they have molded dozens of planeswalkers into exemplary rulers.
<br><br>
Several of their students have become multiversal emperors, two have formed their own planeswalking schools (still affiliated with the Scholars and our university, of course),
and one even managed to force an outer god into her service.
<br><br>
If you choose them as a mentor, then you will be forced to lead.
Listen to what they say, and lead well, and you will ascend to positions of power wherever you go.
However, if you're more keen on doing things than telling others to do things, don't pick Dralivar and Itishi.
<div class="letter">
If you wish to learn how to gain power over others, and then how to rule them wisely and well, look no further.
<br><br>
I, Dralivar, have waged and won thousands of wars, and I, Itishi, have brought thousands of empires to prosperity in peace.
<br><br>
Many of those reading this have chosen to become "Adventurers", a term ill-suited to the task of constantly resolving conflicts in one's favor.
Unless you intend to defeat your enemies or forestall disaster through personal might alone, or by following the commands of another,
you will need to lead those below you.
<br><br>
If you intend to lead, then it is an affront to those you lead if you lead them poorly.

Master of the Archives, Archmage of Runes, Theology, History, Metal, and just about every individual metal and common alloy,
Etrip got her name following a childhood period of severe eyestrain, which was caused and exacerbated by her singular love for reading.
<br><br>
She runs our archives, which basically means that she has records of almost every text ever written in every 'verse.
Our nets don't catch notes or such, but we get diaries on up. Etrip's in charge of the runic acquisition and sorting system, in addition to being the acting librarian.
<br><br>
If knowledge alone was power, trust me, she'd be godlike. She knows just about everything there is to know, and that's helped her come up with her Continuum Hypothesis,
which is basically the unified theory of unified theories. She's in her eighth revision so far, and if it's right (and it's looking good) she'll go down as the greatest Scholar ever to live.
<br><br>
On a more personal note, she hates Err's guts. Or does she? You see, I think they're in love.
I've been around for 250 years, and both haven't had one relationship. They can't be in the same room without arguing,
but they've worked together on dozens of projects. When the council declared that Err was to be killed, she completely freaked out.
They have the same sense of humor, they both love magical theory, and they both really value their personal privacy.
