104[17:20] <~Popscythe> Megaversal Adventure Chapter 2: Sea of Discard
204[17:23] <~Popscythe> The strangest thing about this place is what passes for the sky. Hours now after the crash site you've travelled towards the thin plume of smoke rising from a small valley between mountain-sized piles of the refuse of innumerable worlds. Standing on a ridge above the valley now, damage alarms quelled, though still present, your equipment and selves battered and worn from conflict, you note that the pale blue sunless "sky" has changed not at all during your long trek towards the single hint of purposeful activity in this place.
304[17:24] <~Popscythe> Daytime though it seems to be, the surroundings lit such as they would be during day on Earth, you see no source of the light which surrounds you, seeming to come from every direction at once, eliminating many shadows and casting others, giving the illusion of movement in the refuse.
404[17:26] <~Popscythe> The refuse itself is definitely interesting to a degree, some of it here and there recognizable litter from your world and very much of it the kind of garbage you might see on Earth, everything from rotting food to discarded packaging but constructed of material you do not recognized and marked with what might pass for language for creatures much different than yourselves.
504[17:27] <~Popscythe> Though the natural "weather" appears here and there in the form of cloudbanks that more often rain garbage upon you such as that which might be dumped from the back of a refuse vehicle, once in a while during your journey a light rain accompanies the trash which falls from the clouds with no shame, as if this was a perfectly natural thing to do.
604[17:28] <~Popscythe> These clouds seem to appear from nothingness ten or twenty feet above your heads, rain (or perhaps snow) light scraps of refuse, broken metal and rotting trash, then vanish with a sudden pop, as if they never existed.
703[17:28] * Zen is now known as Rhaun
803[17:28] * kinkouin is now known as Khorne
904[17:30] <~Popscythe> As far as you can see in every direction this ocean of interdimensional garbage stretches, slowly filling this entire, massive place over the centuries with the garbage rain. It occurs to you that if you were to dig straight down, there must be trash from ages past beneath you, if time does in fact flow the same here as it would on Earth. If this place is truly filled from the bottom or whatever ground there might be who knows how deep below, there is probably enough trash here to create the weight of a planet itself, or at least several major landmasses.
1004[17:31] <~Popscythe> Given the complete lack of electrical signal greeting your sensors, you trudge through the endless trash towards that one glimmer of hope in the distance, the small plume of grey smoke on the horizon, less close by a great deal than you first imagined, or perhaps taunting you, some malicious mirage to lead weary travelers astray
1104[17:32] <~Popscythe> As you continue your trek, you see no sign of the worm which you feel certain survived the destruction of the Rift Ship as you did, not a rumble or an out of place movement of the garbage to be seen, besides that trash which tumbles down the hills during the garbage rain.
12[17:33] <Mikhail> (DARE TO BE STUPID! DARE TO BE STUPID!....sorry)
13[17:33] <Khorne> (There you go! :D )
14[17:34] <Mikhail> (wait, robots? HOLY SHIT JUNKIONS!)
1504[17:35] <~Popscythe> Finally, cresting the hilltop of a massive ridge of compacted trash and scrap, you look down upon your goal into a narrow valley that stretches ahead of you for several miles. Having been increasingly worried about your position in space and time and the lack of any glimmer of civilization in this place it is some considerable relief to you to determine that the plume of smoke is due to a the workings of several smokestacks nearly concealed in the long, narrow valley that stretches before you. You pause, taking in the scene with eyes and sensors and spot several defense turrets posted at the mouth and on the ridges of the narrow valley below, about four miles down the huge slope upon which you stand, framed by the empty blue sky.
16[17:35] <Khorne> (Good thing I know the universal greeting!)
17[17:36] <Khorne> (Are the turrets actively moving? Or just sitting there)
18[17:36] <Khorne> (Or too far to see?)
19[17:36] <Mikhail> (Ba weep grana-weep mini bon!)
2004[17:36] <~Popscythe> The town itself consists of several low buildings that you cannot see in great detail, but the defensive armaments seem large enough to be threatening, though of unknown type to you. However, a weapon is a weapon and you recognize that much, at least.
2104[17:37] <~Popscythe> You cannot detect the turrets moving, but they appear to be quite massive, the size of a battle tank from Earth, perhaps
22[17:37] <Mikhail> (pointing at us?)
2304[17:38] <~Popscythe> You can spot six of them that are easily visible from this range given their size, though who knows what further surprises await you, concealed in the masses of garbage and scrap that form the valley ahead.
2404[17:38] <~Popscythe> They appear to be generally pointed facing away from the valley, to form a perimeter and are not actively targeting you at this time.
25[17:39] <Khorne> (can I send out a ping via radio frequencies? to see if people will respond?)
2604[17:39] <~Popscythe> (Sure thing, you can say whatever you'd like over the radio or use your IFF transponder to identify yourself to their sensors, though who knows how successful that might be
27[17:40] <Mikhail> "We could use some friends here, komrades. We are in no shape to fight."
28[17:40] <Khorne> (Well I meant how some walkie-talkies have it where you click the talk button, and it makes a beep on a frequency)
29[17:40] <Khorne> (But instead of that, I just run through all frequencies)
3006[17:40] * Rhaun trecks down the massive heap of trash, traveling along the slope towards the village as he beckons the others towards him "Come, no place else in this world that seems as welcoming as this. Perhaps they are friendly, however be on your guard"
3104[17:41] <~Popscythe> (Oh sure, you can broadcast either a flat noise, or a code pattern or voice or whatever you'd like on "all frequencies" to try to shake something up. You can also set your system to scan all the frequencies for activity)
3206[17:41] * Rhaun advances down if they follow or not
33[17:41] <Khorne> (I'll do the latter)
3406[17:41] * Khorne starts scanning all frequencies for any possible chatter, voices or not
3506[17:41] * Mikhail follows reluctantly.
3604[17:42] <~Popscythe> Your scanner loops through the frequencies once, then again without success. Rhaun and Mikhail head down the slope and as they do, your scanner picks up the following message in very oddly accented American, the voice sounding completely electronic and unnatural.
3706[17:43] * Khorne hails Mikhail on the radio (I dont know if Rhaun has one) "These voices, they dont sound human! Be careful"
3806[17:43] * Khorne uses his jumpjets to leap forward and catch up, landing softly behind the two of them
3904[17:43] <~Popscythe> "Warning. You have entered a (there is a word here you do not understand) Habitat Zone. Beware."
4004[17:44] <~Popscythe> The message repeats constantly on the frequency that it was first broadcast on.
4106[17:44] * Khorne places his hand on both Mikhail and Rhaun's shoulder, indicating to hold still to confer with them
4206[17:44] * Khorne whispers "Should we proceed? Or try and hail them on this frequency?"
4306[17:44] * Rhaun slows his pace to a stop as the armored human behind him grips his shoulder
44[17:45] <Rhaun> "Why would we not proceed? Have you uncovered something? if not, we should continue"
45[17:45] <Khorne> "I was scanning frequencies, and it warns us of possibly trespassing on some sort of zone, and you saw the cannons.."
46[17:46] <Mikhail> "We have been hailed. And warned. Let us try to communicate before proceedings."
4706[17:47] * Rhaun stands stoically in place, visored helm looking in the direction of the habitat. "Very well, I shall watch. Make haste, the evil we unleashed surly will"
48[17:48] <Khorne> "Hail, strangers of the Habitat Zone, we are but lonely wanderers in need of assistance, would you be willing to assist us?"
49[17:48] <Khorne> (over radio on their frequency)
5004[17:49] <~Popscythe> Suddenly, the message changes, the voice replaced with a smooth female voice, too perfect to be natural. "Welcome to Pan-Vista Starflight 9883. Welcome to Pan-Vzzzzzbbrrt!"
51[17:49] <Khorne> "Strange, voice changed, have any of you heard of...Pan-Vista?"
5204[17:49] <~Popscythe> You hear someone cursing over the radio for a moment and a popping, sizzling sound. "Hold on! Hold on! Just a moment!" come a voice speaking American with some gruffness. "Hold on, I can't hear you!"
53[17:49] <Khorne> "Sounds like food company to me, but they list a flight number?"
54[17:50] <Khorne> "Now they change to man..."
55[17:50] <Rhaun> "No I have not"
5606[17:50] * Khorne radios again, "Hail, strangers of the Habitat Zone, we are but lonely wanderers in need of assistance, would you be willing to assist us?"
57[17:51] <Khorne> "Shall we ask to go inside? They seem to have technical troubles...but I do not wish to be alone with the abomination..."
5804[17:51] <~Popscythe> Finally, the pre-recorded message cuts out and the male voice, sounding more natural by far speaks again. "Hey! It works, I'll be damned. Welcome to Salvage City, Travellers! Come on down, if your intentions be peaceful. If not, I hope you like Plasma!"
59[17:52] <Khorne> "Very well, be warned, there is a beast which has possibly crashed along with us, but has not the intentions of good"
6006[17:52] * Khorne indicates to Rhaun and Mikhail that they were cleared to go in
6104[17:52] <~Popscythe> You notice that two of the massive, tank-sized turrets are turning slowly in your direction from the nearest side of the massive valley.
6206[17:52] * Khorne walks slowly with his hands raised, blades retracted
63[17:52] <Mikhail> (What are we speaking with these ppl?)
64[17:52] <Khorne> (American)
65[17:53] <Mikhail> (...and how the hell do i look "not threatening"?_
66[17:53] <Khorne> (LOL, you're on your own )
6703[17:53] * Cyphr (Cyphr@mib-DEC0B0B.rh.ncsu.edu) has joined #rifts
68[17:53] <Cyphr> (FUCK FUCK FUCK, I FORGOT IT WAS FRIDAY)
69[17:53] <Cyphr> (sorry, guys)
70[17:54] <Khorne> (But its Jason Voorhees/Freddy Kreuger/Rebecca Black day)
71[17:54] <Mikhail> (bad Cyphr. No xp for you)
72[17:54] <Khorne> (Pft, we just started)
7304[17:54] <~Popscythe> The voice over the radio laughs, "That figures, one more fucking demon in this mess isn't going to make much of a difference. But if you're being followed, hurry down within range of the defenses. If you make it, come see us at the fore-gate, nearest to your position!"
7406[17:54] * Rhaun notices that Khorne is walking forward, taking it as being cleared. He quickly picks up his pace again and moves in front of the damaged power armor and trecks at the frontline
7506[17:55] * Cyphr justs follows the others mindlessly, cuaght up in hsi own thoughts
76[17:55] <Rhaun> "Stay behind me, you're damaged. I am not"
77[17:55] <Cyphr> (there retcon'd)
7806[17:55] * Khorne whispers "The man accepts our plight, asks us to go within defenses to protect us against the beast, but we must move quicker"
7906[17:56] * Rhaun cackles in a sort of unhuman metallic voice at the last bit, his pace remaining steady
8003[17:56] * Cyphr is now known as Flint[Cyphr]
81[17:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I take it we got to the smoke cloud, and foudn people battlign demons?)
82[17:57] <Rhaun> (We made it to a village, no battles)
83[17:58] <Khorne> (Lots of giant turrets)
84[17:58] <Flint[Cyphr]> (ohh)
85[17:58] <Flint[Cyphr]> (well no battles is good, I'm nearly out of ammo)
8604[17:59] <~Popscythe> As you approach the very long, narrow valley, you find it to be a massive impact crater, rather than what might pass for a natural feature in this place. Sitting in the narrow valley is the frame of an absolutely huge craft of some type, dug deep into the surrounding trash with the force of some crash from many years past. From this distance, a mere mile from the nearest defenses you can also see more sign of habitation, the defenses rigged around the perimeter of the site complete with outbuildings and thin fences, marking off a distinct area around the ruined ship, which stretches over three miles long and half a mile wide, nestled into its resting place among the other scrap
87[18:00] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I'll stay quiet until I figure out more abotu what's going on, I'll just chirp in when it makes RP sense)
8804[18:00] <~Popscythe> Heading down the slope towards the defensive line, you even see the tiny figures (from this distance) of humanoids moving around behind the lines in light powered armor, hopping from place to place with thrusters in the mounds of interdimensional refuse
8904[18:00] <~Popscythe> (someone pm cyphr a cut and paste will you)
90[18:00] <Flint[Cyphr]> (would be nice)
91[18:01] <Mikhail> "We are not the only people to crashland here."
92[18:01] <Khorne> "Yes, but how long ago?"
9306[18:01] * Rhaun nods "It seems that way... it seems that way..."
94[18:02] <Mikhail> (i have pre rifts history; could that tell me if this is a human ship?"
95[18:02] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Apprently not"
9606[18:02] * Khorne gestures at the defensive setup
9704[18:03] <~Popscythe> Near to the defensive line, you see that the turrets are merged with a double-layer of light modern fencing which stands eight feet high. Each section of the material is something different, clearly constructed from the twisted scrap that is buried all around you, curls of metal and piles of rot forming what passes for soil and earth of this strange dimension.
9802[18:03] * Khorne (blah@68521188.D173F1D4.4DED145.IP) Quit (Excess Flood)
9904[18:03] <~Popscythe> Roll it, Mikhail
10003[18:03] * Khorne (blah@68521188.D173F1D4.4DED145.IP) has joined #rifts
10103[18:03] * Khorne is now known as kinkouin
102[18:03] <kinkouin> (welp, lesson learned, dont copy paste too fast
103[18:03] <kinkouin> )
104[18:03] <Mikhail> roll 1d100
10504[18:03] <~Popscythe> (just 1d100
106[18:03] <Mikhail> 1d100
107[18:03] <Dead_boy> Mikhail, 1d100: 55 [1d100=55]
108[18:03] <Rhaun> (just copy it to a pastebin, kin, and send it to him)
109[18:03] <Mikhail> (nope_
110[18:04] <kinkouin> (meh, i'll do that next time Rhaun)
11104[18:04] <~Popscythe> You don't recognize the design of the ship, but you can tell that it is far larger, even this piece that remains of what was once a larger whole, than similar constructions by Humans, even in the Golden Age.
11204[18:05] <~Popscythe> The light fences slide open roughly, built into tracks that rattle as they pull the gates aside as you approach, each of you besides Rhaun still buzzing, smoking slightly with battle damage.
113[18:06] <Rhaun> "I am pleased to find life living among'st this garbage, they must subsist off the refuse. Nutrients must be around, however it is sad that a life must be in such a place"
114[18:06] <kinkouin> "But alas, they must survive with what is here, I am glad that we will not starve for at least another day"
11506[18:07] * Flint[Cyphr] seems to snap out of his haze "Everytime I see what extremes Life can survive in, I find myself amazed"
116[18:07] <Rhaun> "I do not starve, but I will help you find nutrients"
11706[18:07] * Rhaun continues forward, past the open gates
11804[18:08] <~Popscythe> From atop one of the massive turrets two humanoids in environmental armor work busily attaching some type of antenna array to the huge machine, which towers above even Mikhail. The turret was clearly once part of a far larger structure, perhaps salvaged from the crashed Ship that forms the main structure of this so called "City" clearly not more than a densely occupied town. The bores of the turret are huge in a way that fills you with some awe. The type of weapon that strikes at planets from orbit. A World Killer.
119[18:08] <kinkouin> "You are a man, are you not? How does one like you not require nutrition?"
12006[18:08] * Rhaun keeps his armored hands visible, showing that he is not a threat
121[18:08] <kinkouin> (When were World Killers made? A long time ago?)
122[18:09] <Flint[Cyphr]> (golden age tech, it's a golden age ship)
123[18:09] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Would it be possible to get repairs, or at least ammunition here?"
124[18:10] <Mikhail> (this is larger than anything we made in the golden age; we had no space empire then)
12506[18:10] * Flint[Cyphr] follows the others inside
126[18:10] <Rhaun> "You should first fix your flesh, it has not been long since I've tended your wounds"
127[18:10] <kinkouin> "We are still strangers to them, let us at least introduce ourselves before we demand of much"
12806[18:10] * kinkouin nods at Rhaun's statement
12904[18:10] <~Popscythe> Neither of you have any information besides what you can assume based on the sheer size of the weapons. They are nearly fifty feet tall and rotate on a base easily 100m wide. Next to these weapons, the massive war machines of the Coalition would seem as toys. You wonder if the immense machines are even operational. What power source exists in this place to power such a machine of war?
130[18:10] <Mikhail> (who are we talkign to? the guys building the dish?)
131[18:11] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I had no intent to demand such a thing, my body will repair itself, Demonbane will not. Besides Demonbane is a part of me, I don't know what I would do if I lost him"
132[18:12] <kinkouin> "Indeed, let us meet our benefactors before the beast shows again"
133[18:12] <Flint[Cyphr]> "But yet, you are right, I am getting ahead of myself in my haste"
13406[18:14] * kinkouin walks up to the the entrance of the gates, looking for the man on the radio
135[18:14] <Flint[Cyphr]> (khorne, was that the whoel back log, or am I missing a few lines?"
13604[18:14] <~Popscythe> Past the gate that slides open before you, what was once a large blast door that is clearly salvaged from something else, as is everything in this area, stands open. Standing just inside it several humanoids in full armor stand watching your approach and one raises an arm in greeting as those of you who are tuned to the previous frequency receive a communication. "There you are. You're no Travelers! You could be an army in and of yourselves! Come, a good tale sells well in our City. We are eager for news of the outside."
137[18:14] <kinkouin> (That was everything up til you showed up)
138[18:14] <Flint[Cyphr]> (right, thanks)
139[18:15] <kinkouin> "we may have much of a tale, but before we tell it, may we trouble you for some medical attention and repairs? My friends and myself are in much disrepair
14006[18:15] * kinkouin getures towards Mikhail's large amounts of damage
141[18:15] <kinkouin> (I'm guessing he has holes and sparks and the like)
142[18:16] <Flint[Cyphr]> "A tale it may be, but ending is nothing but trouble"
14306[18:16] * Rhaun raises his metallic clawed hand in greeting, mimicking them. Though he does not hear the communications, he voices a hearty "Hello"
144[18:17] <Rhaun> "As this one says, lifeforms of the refuse world, they are in disrepair and cannot heal themselves so easily. Might you spare some help?"
145[18:17] <Mikhail> (they are human, yes? or at least humanoids?)
14604[18:18] <~Popscythe> The man with his arm raised waves you in, turning away to lead you inside what is clearly a hangar bay of sorts, refurbished to provide power to a huge supply of coffin-like barracks rooms, stacked along every wall. You see that PAN-VISTA is marked on some of them in fading paint. In the center of the large hangar sit many humanoids of all shapes and sizes as well as creatures that you do not immediately recognize, inhuman creatures both larger and smaller than humankind. They examine your group as you approach through the massive blast door, all seated at and around tables in the center of the room upon which are the remnants of meals, drinks and other signs of mortal life. The occasional card game, trade in progress and drug use also takes place here and there, as well as the workings of physicians and other seemingly benevolent types, who move quietly through the masses, offering services.
14706[18:19] * kinkouin points at the Pan-vista markings
14804[18:19] <~Popscythe> They all seem very interested in seeing you approach, having momentarily paused what they are doing as you approach, each of you larger than the majority of them and several of you quite alien, even in this place.
149[18:19] <kinkouin> "Ah! Not food company, but was still promising."
15006[18:20] * kinkouin bows deeply to greet the hangar
15106[18:20] * Rhaun eyes everyone in the room, one at a time as he is lead inside. Trying to get a feel for the places occupants
15206[18:20] * Flint[Cyphr] provides a loose salute/wave
153[18:21] <Mikhail> "So many races...from where did you all come?"
15404[18:21] <~Popscythe> The man who originally greeted you speaks over his suit's speakers. "Welcome to the Fore Barracks, my friends. Though we've plenty of room for anyone humanoid who comes to Salvage City, seeing as how we've got a lot more beds than people, I'm afraid that accommodation for more exotic sizes and shapes of Traveller can be a little tougher to come by. However, you are certainly welcome to find a spot that seems unoccupied and make yourselves at home, as much as can be made in a place like this."
155[18:22] <kinkouin> "Ah, it is you, man from radio!"
156[18:22] <kinkouin> "Thank you for your hospitality"
15704[18:22] <~Popscythe> The man laughs at Mikhail's question. "Everywhere, it seems. I might ask you the same thing, but here you are. Here we are. It doesn't seem so strange after a while, especially given how things from all over the Multiverse just rain from the sky when they feel like it."
158[18:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Thank you for your hospitality, I don't have terribly much in the way of credits, or trade goods, what can I do to repay you?"
15906[18:22] * Rhaun turns to face the man speaking "Thank you for your hospitality! I'm surprised to find such a place on this world. I imagine it would be hard to keep this place from going under the heaps of garbage being spilled here"
160[18:22] <kinkouin> "The rain of refuse, it is a commonplace thing?"
161[18:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Also, where am I supposed to park?"
16206[18:23] * Flint[Cyphr] turns the head Demonbane side to side, looking for a slip/gantry
16304[18:24] <~Popscythe> The man motions around himself to the various people and things sitting at tables, each of them seeming slightly hungry, slightly dirty but without the abject dispair that you sometimes see in the downtrodden on Earth. This group appears to be the type of self-sufficient society that can only be fueled by circumstances such as this, or perhaps by taking from others what is needed.
16404[18:25] <~Popscythe> "You are of course very welcome. It's not like any one of us owns any of these things, we all just sort of pitch in. With the way things are around here and how difficult life can be in a place where nothing grows and water is scarce, not to mention light, at times... Well, most of us work together to survive, especially here in the City."
165[18:26] <kinkouin> "Well, while we appreciate the hospitality, I must ask the obvious: How does one leave?"
16604[18:27] <~Popscythe> You see several other vehicles and suits of armor tucked into corners, rigged to supply hoses and clearly salvaged reactor equipment. "You can "park" wherever you'd like, friend, but keep an eye on your things. Finders keepers, after all is much the rule of life in The Sea."
16704[18:27] <~Popscythe> The man motions you to a nearby table, around which sit benches of welded scrap that seem quite sturdy despite their repurposed construction. "That's the question, isn't it. Let me tell you what I know and then we can go from there, eh?"
16806[18:28] * kinkouin nods
169[18:28] <Mikhail> (lets try to go one at a time with the questions)
170[18:28] <Rhaun> "I too am curious what this place is.. We crashed here from a ship in orbit, containing slaves and a demon. I personally was ripped from where I was to the inside of it"
171[18:29] <Flint[Cyphr]> (that would certainloy makes things more simple)
172[18:29] <kinkouin> "Though a tale of much things is needed to be said, we must first repair and mend our battle wounds"
173[18:29] <Rhaun> "And here we are, a planet of trash"
17404[18:31] <~Popscythe> "First off, this City, as we call it is one of the few places in The Sea where the rain doesn't fall. This is a good thing as we're not buried in trash but a bad thing in that we must venture outside the perimeter for quality salvage and most importantly, water. However, we are able to provide shelter to many and even some power and water recycling services due to salvaged equipment and rebuilt systems from this old Ship that we call home. There is more space than there are people especially since travel outside the City is so... difficult."
175[18:32] <Rhaun> "I see. Truly a situation you are all in, but one that could be worse. What sort of creatures lurk around this world, if any?"
17604[18:33] <~Popscythe> "We lose a lot of salvage teams out there, more than are replaced by the influx of Travellers here and there. As far as where the Travellers come from, generally the story remains the same, someone attempted to go somewhere and ended up here instead. A Rift, or a D-Ship maybe, hell even some type of ritual gone awry or the work of some supernatural creature... I've even heard of beings that have been "cursed" to this place. Which is fitting as The Sea is less than pleasant in many respects."
17704[18:34] <~Popscythe> "There are many here who are technically minded, so you will not have trouble making a deal with someone for repair and even medical services. Of course, that only goes so far if you die of dehydration while your suit is being repaired. Water is the most rare and important resource we have here in the City, guard it well if you possess it.
178[18:34] <kinkouin> "We seemed to be subjected to the work of a creature of sorts, which we were forced to appear here whilst battling it"
17904[18:35] <~Popscythe> The man takes a seat and pulls off his helmet, the design of his armor similar to body armor from Earth, but of no type that you recognize. "NEMA" is written across his chest in very faded letters.
180[18:35] <Flint[Cyphr]> "How much would a gallon water sell for? I might be able to part with some, if the price is right"
181[18:35] <Mikhail> (Flint has to recognize that, but hes the only one who would)
18213[18:36] <Flint[Cyphr]> (would I Popscythe?)
183[18:36] <Mikhail> (Neema is the american version of the knights of the bloody round table; legendary heroes)
18404[18:36] <~Popscythe> (You know about the Neemans, and NEMA sounds a lot like "Neeman" but they're legendary. Your armor doesn't say anything about NEMA on it, nor have you ever seen NEMA written on anything on Earth
185[18:37] <Flint[Cyphr]> (alright, so it's just a oddity in Flint's head, I suspected as much)
18604[18:38] <~Popscythe> He appears to be a middle-aged human, with one cybernetic eye that whirrs a bit, constantly seeming to be refocusing as he speaks. "As far as getting out of here goes, good luck. The majority of Travellers I've met are still here, or died here. Those who have disappeared are assumed to be dead in the Sea somewhere. There are no Rifts or even Blue Zones in The Sea, those wizards and demonologists I've encountered say that there is little "energy" here with which to create a gateway. Very little.
187[18:39] <kinkouin> (What's a blue zone :( )
188[18:39] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I wonder if that thing that followed us here would power a rift if we destroyed it"
189[18:39] <Rhaun> (I'm assuming leylines)
190[18:40] <kinkouin> (Oh, its his terminology, in which I'll ask)
191[18:40] <Rhaun> "Well we will find out, because I'm not leaving here without first taking care of it
19204[18:40] <~Popscythe> He frowns a bit. "That brings us to another problem, Demons. Just as travellers are brought to us, though so rarely purposefully, we see our share of Monsters and Horrors as well. And unfortunately without the Blue Zones to feed them, they become insane, starving. They attack suicidally, feeing on the living and especially targeting those with extraordinary abilities or those creatures of Magic that live among us here at the City.
193[18:40] <kinkouin> "What is this...Blue Zone you refer of? I am not aware of such a...Zone"
19406[18:41] * kinkouin waves his hand to ignore the question
195[18:41] <kinkouin> "So it is a focal point, this City that we are in? Than we may have brought harm to you all"
196[18:42] <kinkouin> "Though it seems you feel expected of such a revelation?"
19706[18:42] * kinkouin holds his palm out in an inquisitive fashion
198[18:42] <Rhaun> "As we mentioned earlier, a massive demon fell to this planet with us. It seems to burrow effortlessly and it is strong. We weakened it a bit, but the creature is now somewhere. If what you say is true, then it'll either subsist off the trash, or look for flesh. It is my fault this creature is here"
19904[18:42] <~Popscythe> "I'm from Earth, as I assumed that some of you might be, from the G10 you travel with, though I don't recognize the armor you pilot. Though I do think I recognize that accent, can it be possible that Japan survived the Cataclysm? I heard it vanished... We assumed it was swallowed by the Pacific like the West Coast. The Blue Zones are... well I don't know. They are where Demons and Horrors come through onto Earth, but it sounds as if you don't know of them."
200[18:43] <Mikhail> "Bozhe moi!"
201[18:43] <Mikhail> 1d100
202[18:43] <Dead_boy> Mikhail, 1d100: 93 [1d100=93]
203[18:43] <Mikhail> (goddamnit trying to roll pre rifts history)
204[18:43] <Flint[Cyphr]> "All of us are from Earth, perhaps excluding Rhaun"
205[18:43] <Mikhail> "You are...from before the Cataclysm!
206[18:43] <Rhaun> "I am unaware of such a place"
207[18:44] <Mikhail> (not you Rhaum, him)
20804[18:45] <~Popscythe> "I lived to see the Fall of Man, before I was brought here, that is correct, but I am not so old. Many years I spent fighting the Demons from the Blue Zones and working to protect what few innocent lives remained on the planet. However, I understand your confusion. I have met other travellers from Earth who claim to be from different places and different times, sometimes from Earths that don't have the same history that I know. I guess I got ahead of myself. Seeing that G10 brought be back."
209[18:45] <Rhaun> (I was agreeing with Flint, when he said "perhaps excluding rhaun"
21004[18:46] <~Popscythe> He sighs. "I fear that the Earth I left is doomed. The fight was not going in our favor when I was cast into the Rift and was brought here, so long ago. Not well at all."
211[18:46] <Mikhail> "Incredible! I have heard that the Rifts do not respect the rules of time; that people from the past and future may travel through them! A man who saw the Golden Age..."
212[18:46] <Rhaun> "This is very admirable, then, stranger. Standing up to forces of terror is something I value highly"
213[18:47] <Mikhail> "...Of course. I am sorry. You saw the worst disaster of human history. I apologize."
214[18:47] <Flint[Cyphr]> "you are mistaken, Humans surive, I am from roughly 200 afters the events you speak of, humanity survives, although much has changed"
215[18:47] <kinkouin> "No matter, we must worry about the beast that still lurks about, and to our battle wounds, if we are to fight again, to aid our benefactors"
216[18:48] <kinkouin> "We can talk of a simpler or harsher time when we are much safer without that...creature writhing about"
21706[18:48] * kinkouin taps his foot slightly impatiently
21804[18:48] <~Popscythe> The man looks up towards Rhaun. "I wouldn't worry about the Demon that followed you here immediately. I have seen Demons by the hundreds and we do face them often, driven mad by starvation and assaulting our defenses. However, if a creature powerful enough to do this type of damage to a force such as yourselves is nearby, I will let our defenses know to be aware of some Great Worm that travels underground. Our defenses do not take this possiblity into account as much as we clearly should.
21904[18:49] <~Popscythe> The man sighs again, shaking his head. "New troubles every day. I had honestly hoped that just once, a pack train of supplies had fallen from the sky and was radioing us to let us know of some Special Offer." He gives a sad, slightly wry smile. "I guess that in my old age, I am far too hopeful."
22006[18:50] * Rhaun nods at the man "I, the one that failed to utterly destroy it, will aid you.." He turns his head to face Kinkouin "Someone nearby must be able to fix your device, I would find him"
22106[18:50] * kinkouin sighs
222[18:50] <kinkouin> "Very well, I will part ways my friends, I will meet up if the need arises, I must tend to my suit."
22306[18:51] * kinkouin walks to talk to some of the others within the hangar, in hopes to find a competent mechanic
22404[18:51] <~Popscythe> The man nods, picking up his helmet and tucking it under one arm. "Indeed. If you intend to plege yourself to our defenses as you have claimed, there will be much work for you and our mechanics have a wealth of material with which to make repairs and modifications, if not of water and food to fuel themselves while doing it."
225[18:51] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I suppose I should look for someone as well, thank you for your kindness sir"
226[18:51] <Rhaun> (The floor looks sturdy enough to support my weight, right?)
227[18:52] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I fully intend to aid your defense until that abomination is dead"
22804[18:52] <~Popscythe> He motions to Khorne. "Tarry yet a while, I will introduce you to someone who can help you. Though there are many mechanics of various ability to be found in the City, the Defenders take precedence. If you truly will aid us, I can see to it that your repairs are made priority."
229[18:52] <Mikhail> "In Russia, any guest would be glad to defend his host."
23006[18:52] * Rhaun claps his hand on the shoulder of Flint "That is how it is done"
23106[18:52] * kinkouin nods and follows
23206[18:52] * Flint[Cyphr] turns and finds a spot to park his glitterboy dismounting and equiping his arms and armor
233[18:53] <Flint[Cyphr]> (retcon that, didn't see the HOLD IT! bit)
234[18:53] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I'm still with you then)
23504[18:53] <~Popscythe> He grins, then replaces his helmet, sealing it in place and then speaking over the speaker. "I can't wait to hear that G10 in action from the ramparts. Ha! I miss the Guardsman of Earth. I miss them very much."
236[18:53] <kinkouin> "I will not shy from a battle, as I am always ready. However, as strong as the suit may be, the flesh is tattered and requires repairs"
23706[18:53] * kinkouin gestures to his suit
238[18:53] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I think you are one of the few who enjoy the noise Demonbane makes, most take it as a sign of trouble"
239[18:54] <kinkouin> "Hah!
24006[18:54] * kinkouin claps a hand on Flint[Cyphr]'s shoulder
241[18:54] <Flint[Cyphr]> (me or my GB?)
242[18:54] <kinkouin> "A proud sound it makes, like a horn of battle!"
243[18:54] <kinkouin> (GB)
244[18:54] <kinkouin> (I dont want to squash you, haha)
245[18:54] <Flint[Cyphr]> (good, becuase otherwise I just feel over from all the broken ribs)
246[18:55] <Mikhail> "Excuse me komrades, but I must be finding a cyber-doc."
24706[18:55] * Mikhail trundles off, his gait lopsided due to the missing treadplates.
24804[18:55] <~Popscythe> He motions for you to follow, heading through Fore Barracks, moving towards the entrance opposite that which you entered through the crowds. The crowds have mostly gone back to their business, though some still watch you, including some hideous, massive, 8 foot tall humanoids with heavy augmentation who sit with several other creatures similar to themselves, also with various degree of cybernetic enhancement. They sneeringly acknowledge the man as he passes, who ignores them.
249[18:55] <Flint[Cyphr]> "A proud sound indeed, but still it's boom always signifies danger or touble"
250[18:56] <Rhaun> "All of you, it seems we are destined to be together at the moment, and so be it. It's good to have friends in these sorts of times. Do as you will, and if you need my aid, I'll help out"
251[18:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I take it not everyone here is as friendly as you are?"
252[18:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Thank you Rhaun, your aid means alot to me"
253[18:56] <Mikhail> (who has demonology?)
25404[18:56] <~Popscythe> "The armories and power houses are this way. I warn you, the loose arrangement of this place leaves those of us in charge of military technology slightly on edge. If you truly be friend, make it clear by keeping your movements light hearted, lest a misunderstanding break out.
255[18:56] <kinkouin> (nope.avi)
256[18:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I have demonlore)
257[18:56] <Mikhail> (roll boss; i think those guys are brodkil...)
258[18:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Thanks for the advice"
259[18:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> (that's metagaming mik)
260[18:57] <kinkouin> "Understood, I would feel the same touched my suit."
26104[18:57] <~Popscythe> (hey, lets not make with the out of game guesses my brother
262[18:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I wasn't gonna roll, I just assumed they were FCC's)
263[18:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> (so no metadvice, do it in character)
264[18:58] <kinkouin> (brb bio)
26506[18:58] * Flint[Cyphr] double checks the safeties on the boomgun, and makes sure it is stowed as best it can with the battle damage
266[18:58] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I'm gonna be AFK for a few minutes, need to pop to the shop for a snack, won't be 5 minutes)
267[18:59] <Flint[Cyphr]> (just assume I'm being a firendly guy, and workign on getting the suit fixed until I get back)
268[18:59] <kinkouin> (back)
26904[19:00] <~Popscythe> "You can call me Grant, by the way." The man says as he leads you into a yard over which the skeleton of the massive ship stretches like the bones of some miles-long leviathan. Many workers here busy themselves constructing everything from walls to smaller buildings using these "bones" as structure, mostly ignoring you as you pass. A series of hangars are built into the side of the structure here and there and several workers adding armored plating and moving battered-looking crates of supplies to and from them wave at Grant as he approaches. Grant leads you into the largest hangar, which is built partially into the crater in which the wrecked ship sits, cut directly into the cement-hard compacted garbage and then lined with polycrete.
270[19:00] <Mikhail> "I am Mikhail."
271[19:00] <Mikhail> (we suck; shouldve introduced ourselves)
27213[19:01] <kinkouin> (ROFL Popscythe, you read my mind, I was going to ask what his name was)
27304[19:01] <~Popscythe> The man stops at your introduction to turn and offer his hand. "It is a pleasure, my friend."
274[19:01] <kinkouin> "I am Khorne"
27503[19:01] * kinkouin is now known as Khorne
27606[19:01] * Mikhail reaches out to take Grant's hand with one of his lower, more human sized arms.
27706[19:02] * Khorne bows deeply
27804[19:02] <~Popscythe> "These are the main hangars. In the future, as long as you are willing to lend your services to the Defenders, you can find what supplies are available and skilled mechanics here. Of course, rare and interesting goods of all varities are available for trade in the markets and barracks, you'll never know what you might find. However, for basic repairs and resupplies, you cannot beat our Operators, I assure you."
27906[19:02] * Rhaun slightly bows his 10 foot frame "You can call me Rhaun, or whatever you like. It matters not"
280[19:04] <Khorne> "As they are specialists of the machine, do you have any who can mend the body?"
28104[19:04] <~Popscythe> Grant nods to each of you in turn, then continues to lead you into the hangar. "Hey!" He calls up to a scaffolding that nearly blocks the entrance, upon which workers reload and repair a massive war-robot of a vaguely humanoid, yet unfamiliar design. "I told you to watch the clearance when setting this up! It wouldn't kill you to not block the door every time you find a new toy, Doc!"
282[19:05] <Khorne> "It is nice to see that there are those who are still so willing to work, despite the circumstances"
28304[19:05] <~Popscythe> From up top, a humanoid in light armor with a multi-optic helmet on and a welder in one hand calls down in accented, broken American. "Motivator trouble. We'll move. We'll move."
28406[19:05] * Khorne laughs lightly
28504[19:06] <~Popscythe> Grant motions into the hangar past the scaffold. There is just enough room for Mikhail to pass. "Come in. Mind the scaffold, friends."
286[19:06] <Flint[Cyphr]> (back)
28706[19:06] * Rhaun follows the group
28804[19:06] <~Popscythe> "Indeed, if you are in need of a Medic, I'll have one come down. For now, you can speak with the Doc here for your equipment issues."
289[19:07] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I am Flint, Glitterboy, and this suit is Demonbane"
290[19:07] <Khorne> "Please, I would like to take care of all my wounds, both machine and man."
29106[19:07] * Khorne follows inward and goes to talk with the "Doc"
29204[19:07] <~Popscythe> "Doc, these four are new arrivals. Flint, Mikhail, Rhaun, I believe and I'm afraid I didn't catch the name of this person."
29304[19:07] <~Popscythe> "Bump them up the list, they've had a hard time of it and we could use them on the line."
294[19:08] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'm not a particulary good mechanic, but once my wounds are tended to, I'm more than wiulling to help with basic repairs"
295[19:08] <Rhaun> "I am in no need of being fixed. My body takes care of itself"
296[19:09] <Khorne> "I am Khorne"
297[19:09] <Flint[Cyphr]> "for now, I just want some painkiller for my ribs"
29804[19:09] <~Popscythe> The humanoid hands off his welder carefully to another worker and climbs down the scaffold towards you. It appears to be of roughly human size and shape, though it has four arms, somewhat like Mikhail. As it approaches, you note that it is not wearing armor, but appears to be constucted of some naturally armored material, like the chitin of an insect.

30304[19:10] <~Popscythe> You doubt this creature is a demon or monster, Flint, but probably a mutant instead, like the mutant insects in what was once Canada in North America, though those are rumored to be completely hostile and impossible to communicate with.
304[19:10] <Khorne> (OOH OOH I SAW THAT BOOK)
305[19:10] <Khorne> (but oh well, not relevant)
306[19:11] <Khorne> "How are you, Doc, do you have the time to repair us?"
30706[19:11] * Khorne places a funny emphasis on Doc
308[19:11] <Khorne> (unaware of nicknames for japanese to american english, etc)
309[19:11] <Flint[Cyphr]> (you should have done th obvious, what's up doc)
31004[19:12] <~Popscythe> "Welcome" the "Doc" says, making a greeting motion with one "hand", a claw-like appendage with what might pass for an opposable thumb-like digit in addition to its two pincers. "I see that you've... Had it rough, as Grant-Human has mentioned."
311[19:12] <Khorne> "A battle of much, but alas, we prevailed until the abomination flung us into the Sea, as you call it"
312[19:12] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'd say it was rather light, considering the way we came here"
313[19:13] <Khorne> "Ah, the way here was safe, but the road to getting here was not..."
31404[19:13] <~Popscythe> The multi-optics on the helmet it wears buzz and focus on you. "Lets waste no time. If you need repair for... Vehicle Machines, leave them near the... Mounting Coils there."
31506[19:13] * Khorne chuckles in a slightly embarassed toan
316[19:13] <Khorne> *tone
317[19:13] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Id on't know if a rift hopping, crashign ship counts as a road"
318[19:14] <Khorne> "no matter, we are here to be fixed"
31906[19:14] * Khorne heads to the indicated area that are supposedly for Mounting Coils, unaware of what the Coils are, and steps out of his suit
320[19:14] <Flint[Cyphr]> "very well" flint parks and dismounts Demonbane, donning his Armor, and slinging his weapons
321[19:15] <Khorne> "Please, take the utmost care, for though it is strong, much of its systems may result in harm due to its...fickle nature"
32206[19:15] * Khorne pets the flat of the blades on the suit
32306[19:16] * Flint[Cyphr] plants his hand on Demonbane's leg "see you later, Demonbane"
32404[19:16] <~Popscythe> It points to several resupply connectors that are familiar in fuction to those you use on Earth that line the far wall. Many other suits of powered armor and smaller robot vehicles line the walls connected to these machines as well, with techs and operators moving among them, climbing, welding and power-armored lifters reloading and supplying the machines of war. To those of you who are armor pilots, this collection is more interesting than any of you have seen on Earth. For every armor or robot from Earth that you spot (and there are several) there are ten pieces of powered armor and robot technology that is completely alien to you and several that appear to be hodge-podges of alien and Earth technology, including the main body of a CS Spider-Skull Walker mounted on some alien lower chassis that appears to be a hover vehicle of some kind.
32506[19:16] * Flint[Cyphr] moves to inspect the spider-skull alien hybrid

32804[19:17] <~Popscythe> The "Doc" steps down from the scaffolding with speed and ease, climbing with four arms and two legs natively, as if it moves with equal ease on two, four or six legs.
32904[19:18] <~Popscythe> "You, Cyborg" The Doc indicates Mikhail. "You complex... design. You need much care. Damage... Extreme."
33004[19:18] <~Popscythe> It appears as though all of the vehicles being repaired and modified here are being rebuilt with some considerable skill, if not the finest of materials, Flint.
331[19:19] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I was more interested in the specfics of the spider walker, weapons size etc)
332[19:19] <Mikhail> "Da, Dok. Can you fix me?"
333[19:19] <Khorne> "While I await the medic, I am able to make basic repairs and assist in munitions of smaller size. Do you require my help?"
33404[19:20] <~Popscythe> "Cyborg here" The Doc motions to an auto-surgeon suite that stands at one end of the room, flanked by two others. One of them is occupied by another combat cyborg who is currently in pieces, only an armored torso and head. It appears to be deactivated, the head hangs limp from the torso, cybereyes dim."
33504[19:20] <~Popscythe> (whoops, extra ")
33604[19:20] <~Popscythe> "No help. Medic soon. Only Operator, Psi-Tech. No... Amateur. Egg Not Build."
337[19:20] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I can help with Demonbane if you like, I'm not skileld at complex repairs, but I can certainly load a new amo canister if you point me at the stores and equipment"
338[19:21] <Flint[Cyphr]> (that was supposed to come before Doc answered)
33904[19:21] <~Popscythe> As the Doc speaks, a team of men bearing a stretcher and several kits enters the hangar, moving around the scaffolding. "Goddamnit, Doc, again you're in the entire fucking doorway!"
340[19:21] <Khorne> "Understood."
34106[19:21] * Mikhail rolls over to the auto-surgeon, somewhat wearily.
34204[19:22] <~Popscythe> Their leader is an older man in partial armor who is smoking some pungent cigar.
34306[19:22] * Flint[Cyphr] wanders over to greet the Medics
34406[19:22] * Khorne laughs at the team of men lightly
34504[19:22] <~Popscythe> "Where's our wounded? Don't tell me you already cut them up for scrap... or Dinner, Doc."
346[19:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Cigars? I thought I would never see one of those here"
347[19:22] <Khorne> "A man who is extremely interested in his work no doubt, it is not his fault entirely that he has no room to fit all his...work"
348[19:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "ahh, I'm flint, I'm one of your patients"
34906[19:23] * Flint[Cyphr] offers his hand to the man
350[19:23] <Khorne> "I am one of the wounded"
35106[19:23] * Khorne walks slowly towards the team
35204[19:23] <~Popscythe> The man turns, grinning. "Travelers, huh. Well, if you're lucky enough to find some Cigars in this mess, hang on to them or trade them to me. A cigar or two and I'm the best friend you've ever had."
35304[19:23] <~Popscythe> "Jackson" The smoking man says, reaching to clasp Flint's hand firmly.
35404[19:24] <~Popscythe> "You boys look a little banged up, what do you say we get you over to the lab and see what we can do?"
355[19:24] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Sure thing, I self adminstered a IRMSS to the pair of us earlier, but there are still some loose parts banging around inside, pain killers would be a blessing right about now"
35604[19:24] <~Popscythe> "Any internal injury? Neither of you are walking on a broken bone I need to know about, are you?"
357[19:24] <Khorne> "I would rather not leave my suit unattended...Mikhail, Rhaun, please keep watch of our suits, if you will"
358[19:25] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I think I have a few cracked ribs, legs and arms seem to be fine though"
35906[19:25] * Flint[Cyphr] is still audibly wheezing/whincing from his injuries
36006[19:25] * Rhaun nods "I was already planning on that, as it seems you need those to fight. I don't need food, or repairs so it doesn't bother me"
361[19:26] <Khorne> "I envy you sometimes, Rhaun"
36206[19:26] * Khorne chuckles heartily
36306[19:26] * Rhaun faces Khorne "You do not know me enough to envy me, I should think"
36404[19:26] <~Popscythe> The Auto-Surgeon wastes no time getting to work on Mikhail after a nearby tech punches a few codes into its console. It begins stripping away the damaged armor plating and connects your systems to a series of diagnostics and rejuvinating power sources, including a nutrient feed intended for humanoid cyborgs. Though you don't feel in the same manner a mere human does, Mikhail, the treatment is adept and the energy you receive from the reactor suppliment and the nutrients is welcome.
365[19:26] <Khorne> "A story for another time then, battle companion."
366[19:27] <Flint[Cyphr]> "for now, lets worry about our wounds."
36706[19:27] * Flint[Cyphr] turns to jackson "Mind if I walk, or do I need to use the strecher?"
368[19:27] <Flint[Cyphr]> (stretcher*)
36904[19:27] <~Popscythe> Jackson nods, having a few of his men move to assist you towards the Medical Labs, which are across the Ship Proper from the Hangars.
370[19:27] <Mikhail> "Heh, the advantages of bioniks, comrades! There is no suit to get out of! Ha ha!"
37106[19:28] * Flint[Cyphr] waves good bye to mik and ruahn as they he is wheeled out
37204[19:28] <~Popscythe> "By all means, walk. If I find you've ground some bone end into your muscles being stubborn, it's your problem not mine."
373[19:28] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Yea, but they leave out some important bits when they convert you" Flint groans as he laughs
37406[19:28] * Rhaun nods at Flint "good luck, I'll be watching the machines in here"
375[19:28] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Take care you two"
376[19:28] <Khorne> "I would rather be safe, I will take use of what you brought."
37706[19:28] * Khorne lies down on the stretcher and groans as he goes down
378[19:29] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Fair enough, I'll take the stretcher"
37904[19:30] <~Popscythe> The Medics take the two wounded humans aside to a hover-vehicle clearly designed to rapid medical response, in which they are transported to the nearby on the Port side of the massive Ship. The labs are just as hodge-podge as the rest of the buildings and areas constructed from endless scrap, and the supplies employed are similarly varied and odd, but effective.
38004[19:33] <~Popscythe> Over the course of the next two days (Earth time), you are all issued quarters in the Fore Barracks by number and food is brought to Flint and Khorne, who are kept at the labs for observation. The Auto-Surgeon works night and day tirelessly. Much to your dismay, after over twenty-four hours of endless, unchanging daylight a darkness falls over Salvage City, a rolling black darkness that falls upon the dimension like a series of lights in a hall being extinguished. Electric lights are activated all over the city, lighting it well in many places, but the dark seems to close in around the perimeter. No stars are visible in the sky and the sound of nearby movement sounds hostile, frightening.
381[19:34] <Khorne> "Jackson, are we under fire? I must be in battle if I am needed!"
382[19:34] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I know I'm injured, but if anything attacks, you let us know, okay?"
383[19:34] <Mikhail> "Bozhe moi...how can night come to a place without day?"
38404[19:35] <~Popscythe> When questioned about the dark, the residents of the Sea inform you that day and night exist in this dimension in equal periods of light and darkness lasting 43 hours at a time. During the times of darkness, the City residents keep close to the defenses as much as possible, warning you that things lurk in the Darknes that are unusual, even for this place. Tales of Travellers who journey in the Dark and are never heard from again are common and those who work salvage during these time are regarded as insanely brave, perhaps suicidal.
38504[19:36] <~Popscythe> During the time of your recovery and repair, you all have ample opportunity to trade, investigate the city, ask questions and generally get a lay of the land.
38604[19:37] <~Popscythe> Take a few minutes and think of what each of you might be interested in seeing and learning during this time and I'll answer your questions.
387[19:37] <Mikhail> (oooh, trade. Anyone trading big ass rail guns?)
388[19:37] <Khorne> "Grant mentioned how they were one of "few" zones that it didnt rain refuse. What other zones are there?"
389[19:37] <Flint[Cyphr]> How much time do I have considering, I laid out at the hospital?
390[19:37] <Flint[Cyphr]> I am laid out*
39106[19:38] * Rhaun doesn't stray too far from the armor suits, as he promised. Instead he travels around nearby and occasionally glances out of the windows (if any) and talks to people to ease his boredom that are also near the suits.
392[19:38] <Khorne> (Is there any way I can get implants whilst recovering?)
393[19:39] <Mikhail> (oh crap. missiles. i need ALL the missiles!"
394[19:40] <Khorne> (Where's Wreck-Gar? :p)
39504[19:40] <~Popscythe> You've got about 48 hours of recovery/repair time to use asking questions, trading and whatever else you'd like to do.
396[19:41] <Flint[Cyphr]> I spend some of of my time checking up on Demonbane's repairs
397[19:41] <Flint[Cyphr]> and thanking the crews for their hard work
39804[19:41] <~Popscythe> All manner of armament, including missiles and railguns compatible with your systems are available. Also, advanced cybernetics and bionics are available and even other varities of augmentation, though pricing depends very much on barter instead of a traditional buy/sell system
399[19:41] <Khorne> (Is there a list I can reference?)
40004[19:42] <~Popscythe> If you have something valuable you'd like to trade for something of similar value, let me know what you're looking for and what you have to trade and we'll go from there
401[19:42] <Mikhail> (which we don't really have...except for my artifacts to trade. if anyone here wants them. shouldve stolen that demon-things plasma axe...)
402[19:42] <Khorne> (I only have credits, and a few rations for myself :<)
40304[19:42] <~Popscythe> I don't have a list for you, but nearly all of the bionics in the main book are readily available, as well as some other systems.
404[19:44] <Mikhail> 1d6 3d6
405[19:44] <Flint[Cyphr]> considering my lack of cahs, I keep an ear out for some jobs for ocket hcange, and spend time consulting the Operators about additional weapons for Demonbane
406[19:44] <Dead_boy> Mikhail, 3d6: 1 [1d6=1]
407[19:44] <Flint[Cyphr]> (nice)
408[19:44] <Mikhail> 3d6
409[19:44] <Dead_boy> Mikhail, 3d6: 15 [3d6=6,5,4]
410[19:45] <Mikhail> (so i have...1000 credits, 1500 credits in pre rifts salvage)
411[19:45] <Mikhail> (i can buy...half a mini missile.)
412[19:45] <Mikhail> (balls)
413[19:45] <Flint[Cyphr]> (1400, 4000 black maret)
414[19:45] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I think you get rearmed for being on the defense)
415[19:45] <Khorne> (haha)
416[19:45] <Flint[Cyphr]> (wait, buy the explosive half, instand hand grenade)
417[19:46] <Mikhail> (thats probably the more expensive half)
41804[19:46] <~Popscythe> Rhaun, you find it difficult to understand the motivations of these busy small creatures who seem so content to rebuild machines that come in only to send them out again to be damaged in combat. So messy and inefficient. However, you do gain some information about the types of threats that are encountered in this place, learning that a great deal of the conflict that is experienced comes not from other humanoid and technological sources, but from Demons and Monsters from other places and times that become stranded here and starve, launching assaults on the perimeter with intent only to cause fear and chaos and to feed the psychic energy of living things they encounter. For this reason, Demons are invariably drawn towards the city from all corners of The Sea, which is said by the techs you speak with to be "endless".
419[19:46] <Flint[Cyphr]> (ok, buy the explosive 1/4th then)
420[19:50] <Mikhail> (shit, i need cyber armor. badly. i'm too big and take too much damage, i need to armor up my giant ass torso. i'm all freaking torso)
421[19:51] <Khorne> (Haha)
422[19:51] <Flint[Cyphr]> (your a tank for the town, ask the mechanics if they the supplies to do it, or at least ducktape and some MDC metal)
423[19:51] <Mikhail> (are any of the traders willing to barter some labor, or IOUs?
424[19:51] <Khorne> (^)
425[19:51] <Flint[Cyphr]> (^^)
42606[19:52] * Rhaun takes note of what the techs say and expresses concern when talking about what lurks around. He doesn't move far from the suits, however, but attempts to keep up on information about the outside in case something does happen. He asks specifics of the types of creatures they face and compares them to the giant worm
42704[19:52] <~Popscythe> All of you find after some investigation that the economy of this place is heavily reliant on the usefulness of the product offered, rather than what would pass for material value on Earth. Something that once might have held very high value like Cybernetics will trade easily for water and ice, useless to someone just sitting on a shelf. Similarly, ammunition and armor is cheaper than on Earth by a great deal, while Credits and what would qualify as a black market trade item on Earth are nearly useless. In the opposite fashion however, the very ground is constructed of things that here and there can be picked up that you can only imagine would trade quite well to a collector of the rare and exotic on Earth.
42806[19:52] * Khorne expresses interest in a Amplified Hearing system, and gyro compass, offering credits and labor, and some of his rations
429[19:53] <Flint[Cyphr]> Assuming I have time left, after my inspection and consultations, I toss some fo the "ground" into my GB's boot
43006[19:53] * Rhaun armor is once more adorned in silver spikes, after a while of waiting.
43106[19:55] * Mikhail offers his vibro knife and Fatboy laser pistol/grenade launcher to several traders, seeing what he can get for them.
43206[19:55] * Khorne offers his first aid kit and some rations, in exchange for cybernetics
43306[19:56] * Flint[Cyphr] offers up some of the water in Demonbane's 10 gallon bin
434[19:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> (about a gallon or so)
435[19:56] <Mikhail> (shit, that's a good idea)
436[19:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> (well 9 gallons of water will last a long time properly rationed, so me and khorne are set)
437[19:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> (well it will last close to a half week anyway)
43804[19:58] <~Popscythe> During the downtime you find that a lot of the barter that goes on with Defenders hinges upon trade for labor and the seeking of Water and Food. During the night, food and water becomes increasingly rare and the rations that are distributed freely to Defenders are reduced steadily, to a nearly starvation diet. It seems that the lack of active Salvage Teams during the Night is a critical blow to the "economy" of The City. A savvy adventurer could stand to make rich rewards the next time Night rolls around if prepared to protect a daring Night Salvage crew seeking Water and Ice in the seemingly eternal night.
439[19:58] <Flint[Cyphr]> How well do the GB's NV systems work in this darkness?
440[19:59] <Flint[Cyphr]> "thermals work regardless of light, but I don't want to relie on them consdering that least one thing on this planet is room temperature)
441[19:59] <Khorne> "It seems that a battle may be at hand, if we would need exactly what we want. Let us help a night salvage team, and help them survive, while we can use it to barter later"
442[20:00] <Khorne> "However, promises may not go so far without our actions"
44304[20:00] <~Popscythe> For a vibro knife and that russian weapon, you are offered 5 fragmentation mini-missiles and 3 AP missiles, Mikhail. A gallon of water will get you nearly any hand-held weapon you might desire, up to the type of rail guns and energy weapons employed by light power armor, or ten mini-missiles.
444[20:00] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Sounds like a good plan, assuming our gear is in order"
445[20:01] <Flint[Cyphr]> I'm interested in any weapons I could modify to fit my G-10's hands
446[20:01] <Flint[Cyphr]> perferbaly ones with either large ammo stores, or that can be wired up to the reactor somehow
44704[20:01] <~Popscythe> Passive Nightvision does not work at all in the dark, but if you use it in combination with floodlights you can see about 1000 feet.
44806[20:02] * Khorne offers 1/2 wk rations, 2000 credits, a signal flare, and a Combat Pistol AT-30
44904[20:02] <~Popscythe> For a gallon of water, the mechanic teams will wire up a laser blaster (4d6 MD, 2000ft range) to the left wrist of the GB.
450[20:02] <Rhaun> (How dark is it for natural nightvision?)
45104[20:03] <~Popscythe> The credits are unfortunately worthless here Khorne, except for novelty value. However the rations and the laser pistol will get you a gyro-compass installed.
452[20:03] <Khorne> (only? :()
453[20:03] <Flint[Cyphr]> Any other weapon options, or just the laser blaster?
45404[20:03] <~Popscythe> It's completely dark, so natural nightvision won't work. However if you use a floodlight, you can see beyond its actual beam 1000 feet, Rhaun.
455[20:03] <Khorne> (probably due to the surgery involved, I will wait until I help the team or whatever)
45604[20:04] <~Popscythe> At the moment, there is no other suitably compatible system available that can tie into the GB's reactors.
457[20:04] <Flint[Cyphr]> sounds good then, I load the gallon of water into whatever container they want, and await the installation
45806[20:05] * Rhaun is actually very willing to help out with night crews to get some supplies, more so wanting to fight than caring about salvage. Now that the group doesn't need him watching the suits as they all seem to be in them.
459[20:05] <Flint[Cyphr]> I also take the time to double check the G1- esppecially water and ration reserves to make sure no one was sticky fingered
46004[20:05] <~Popscythe> Mikhail, there is cyber armor available in many different types and kinds, but due to your odd size and shape it will need to be modified. However, if Night Salvage is as profitable as you have inferred, you will be able to trade for cyber-armor with ease after the next Night.
461[20:05] <Flint[Cyphr]> G-10*
46204[20:06] <~Popscythe> Okay Rhaun, you spend most of your time getting to know groups who are planning to make Night Salvage runs during the next night, but for whatever reason were still in the City during this particular "night"
463[20:06] <Khorne> (Well that settles it for me, I'm going to wait til after the Night Salvage)
464[20:06] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I'm gonna just use my profits to refill the water, since it's sucha valuable commodity)
465[20:06] <Khorne> (I'm going to head to the repair shop if I can)
46604[20:06] <~Popscythe> Your G10 has not been molested, Flint. It appears that the residents of the City are at least afraid enough of conflict to be well-mannered
467[20:07] <Flint[Cyphr]> (and best of all, unlike a gun I can drink it)
46806[20:07] * Mikhail trades for the missiles.
46906[20:08] * Flint[Cyphr] trades for the laser blaster as previously mentioned
47004[20:09] <~Popscythe> As the next "Day" dawns suddenly, light flooding everything instantly unlike sunrise on Earth. You can sense a good deal of relief from the crowds who have been penned inside the City by the unknown dangers outside. Those of them with some experience with the "Days" of this dimension await, salvage vehicles and heavily armed teams assembled and waiting for the break of dawn to depart the moment light slams down upon everything like a switch has been flipped somewhere, noon-brightness suddenly creeping into everything from all directions
471[20:09] <Flint[Cyphr]> "This laser blaster should be a good addition to Demonbane, I don't have to deafen everyone if we are fighting amongst the crew, and I can fire on the move if need be"
47204[20:10] <~Popscythe> There is an atmosphere of excitement and adventure as you again meet up fully repaired and recovered medically, in the main hangar in which Mikhail is undergoing final repairs.
473[20:10] <Flint[Cyphr]> "You look much better now Mikhaill"
474[20:11] <Mikhail> "Da! I feel better, komrade! Komrade Dok may be a bug, but he understands superior, Soviet bioniks!"
47504[20:11] <~Popscythe> Your vehicles (and your body, Mikhail) are fully repaired, if perhaps with materials that are less visually impressive than the previous armor your bore. However they are functionally acceptable, even retaining their specific properties (in the case of the G10's laser resistance)
476[20:11] <Flint[Cyphr]> "and you look better as well Rhaun, I'm surprised you have the patience to stay with the machines"
47706[20:12] * Mikhail makes a fist with his massive metal hand and punches the air to accentuate his words.
47804[20:12] <~Popscythe> Flint, you've been issued 23 additional Boom Gun rounds as well and any e-clips any of you possess have been charged
47904[20:13] <~Popscythe> Mikhail, you are also issued 5 Plasma Mini-Missiles in addition to those you traded for.
480[20:13] <Flint[Cyphr]> (not that I ever use my e-clips, but it's the thought that counts)
481[20:13] <Rhaun> "It hasn't been long, I found from dealing with your type that we see things... differently"
48204[20:13] <~Popscythe> (discuss your plans among yourselves, I've gotta grab a smoke)
483[20:14] <Khorne> (so everyone got full heal?)
48404[20:14] <~Popscythe> (indeed)
485[20:14] <Flint[Cyphr]> "It certainly seems that way, you're an engima to me Rhaun, but I find you very fascinating, I've never met a being such as you before"
486[20:14] <Khorne> (kk, just making sure)
487[20:14] <Flint[Cyphr]> "For now, I suggest we take up defenses duties for the city, while we investigate how to to track and kill our former master"
488[20:15] <Khorne> "It seems that to get what we want, we should figure out what this Night Salvage team does...so that we may plan accordingly"
48906[20:15] * Rhaun lets out a metallic chuckle at Flints comment
49004[20:15] <~Popscythe> (I'm smoking at the desk, but this fatty jay is burning so I won't say too much for a while)
491[20:16] <Flint[Cyphr]> (cigar, cigs or pot?)
492[20:18] <Rhaun> "From the information I gathered, we are stuck here for a while. However, wretched forces linger on this planet and these people seem to be decent and trying to survive. So yes, let us help with the night crews to make life a bit easier on them, and hopefully we will find some creatures to destroy so there will be less for them to deal with
49304[20:18] <~Popscythe> You are all aware of several groups that salvage during the day who have good reputation. You've also heard of groups who raid other encampments who are viewed as dangerous fringe groups, though are allowed to remain in the City as long as they don't attack any teams in the field who are based out of the City. The Night Salvage teams are viewed with suspicion, some believe that they must have some method of surviving the threats of the dark that are sinister and others think that they are just insanely brave, willing to take any risk for profit. The Night Teams take heavy losses, while the Day Teams make less money due to the influx of Salvage during the day hours driving the prices of trade goods down
494[20:19] <Rhaun> "That is what truly matters. However, it would be best if we could find a way to get these people off the planet, and ourselves as well. I care not if the beasts on this planet die after the innocents are gone"
495[20:19] <Flint[Cyphr]> (quite an economy here, did you write all this pop?)
496[20:19] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'm hoping we can find a way off for them, but if it was a simple task, they wouldn't be here now"
49704[20:20] <~Popscythe> (Sorta
498[20:20] <Rhaun> "Of course it isn't a simple task, but one that should be undertaken. Perhaps they haven't found it, because of the creatures making it hard on them"
499[20:21] <Flint[Cyphr]> "exactly, Iwe
500[20:21] <Rhaun> "I don't care about material goods, you can have whatever they give me"
501[20:21] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'm don't terribly care for them either, so long as I have food, water, and Demonbane is in good shape, I'm content"
502[20:21] <Khorne> "Shall we go on a day salvage team to see what it basically entails? that way we are more familliar to how to perform such a task at night"
503[20:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "That is an excellent idea, should we stick together, or split up and guard seperate groups?"
504[20:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Or maybe sets of 2"
505[20:22] <Rhaun> "I'm not interested in following around a group of creatures searching through garbage in the daytime"
506[20:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "what would you have use do the Rhaun?'
507[20:22] <Rhaun> "Apparantly the day does not lure out creatures"
508[20:23] <Flint[Cyphr]> (us* do*)
509[20:23] <Rhaun> "Do what you wish, I will guard the city as demons are attracted to it.. and I'll await nightfall"
510[20:24] <Khorne> "Stay as you will, I would rather we familiarize ourselves with the concept to better prove our worth, in return for goods"
511[20:24] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I agree, I'll do escort alogn with Khorne, what of you mikhail?"
512[20:24] <Mikhail> "Da, we have material needs that you do not komrade. Let us lend our strength, and see what salvage we can find for ourselves"
513[20:25] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'm quite good at salvage operations, we could probably form our own salvage team if we could find a transport for the goods)
51406[20:26] * Rhaun nods "If you all desire me to follow along, I'll do so. Perhaps we may get to slay some beast"
515[20:27] <Flint[Cyphr]> "It's entirely up to you, freedom is one of the most important things to us humans"
516[20:27] <Khorne> (Freedom is the RIGHT OF ALL SENTIENT BEINGS)
517[20:27] <Khorne> (no one? Optimus Prime!)
518[20:27] <Flint[Cyphr]> (yea, it's been a year since I watched G1)
519[20:28] <Flint[Cyphr]> (so I missed the reference)
52006[20:28] * Rhaun chuckles, his expressionless helmet facing Flint "I'm very much aware of that. And I will be aware of that for many, many more years to come. I was simply offering assistance"
521[20:29] <Flint[Cyphr]> "It would be greatly appreciated, since the day has little in the way of danger, I suspect the town will be safe while oyu are away, and even f it is attacked, it looks like they have more than enough firepower to hold the attackers at bay"
522[20:29] <Mikhail> (did he used to say that? or is that from the bay movies? i forget. I was gonna buy all of g1 on dvd last week, but decided on batman beyond instead)
523[20:30] <Khorne> (Nope, G1 Movie)
524[20:30] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I though it was from early G1, not the movie, I hven't seen the G1 movie)
525[20:30] <Khorne> (Then they basically raped it in the bay movies)
526[20:30] <Flint[Cyphr]> "so, do we guard exsisting convoys, or try and scrape together the supplies to form our own?"
52704[20:30] <~Popscythe> There are several rich and well equipped Salvage Teams in town, the greatest and most powerful of which having recovered water recycling equipment and kept possession of it for long periods of time. These groups generally explore the furthest from the City, gaining access to areas rich in resources and providing expert transportation for goods. However the promise of good finds and heavy investment of the company into defense lowers the value of the job compared to riskier operations. There are also many upstart Salvage Teams, usually composed of Travellers such as yourselves who have found themselves trapped in this dimension. They may not venture as far as easily but what salvage is found is divided more liberally among the team than with the bigger companies.
528[20:31] <Khorne> "Let us go with an experienced team to pick up the trade, for it may be useful later on for the Night teams"
529[20:32] <Rhaun> "Do as you wish, I'll lend my assistance to whatever is decided"
530[20:32] <Flint[Cyphr]> "If we want supplies though, the smaller crews will be more profitable"
53104[20:32] <~Popscythe> A group such as yours could easily work for any company they wished. However, all residents of the City are under some form of agreement to defend the City if required. Though some less-humanitarian groups sometimes stay in the field for profit when the Emergency Channel calls for aid to the City, for the most part, the sound of the alarm draws teams from the field in droves to defend their only toehold of survival in this dimension.
532[20:33] <Khorne> "While it may be profitable, I would rather we turn our profit making towards the...larger fish"
533[20:33] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I'm not sure I follow your logic there"
534[20:34] <Khorne> "We learn the trade via an experienced crew, and when we help a Night team, we prove our worth instead of being just bumbling guards, yielding more profit"
535[20:34] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I see, that's an excellent idea"
536[20:35] <Mikhail> "Also, we get to kill demons, and this is always good, nyet?"
537[20:35] <Khorne> "Indeed, when night comes, we will make kililng demons our main priority, but we help the team resolve their mission, putting us in a good light, and we recieve more for what we bargain"
538[20:35] <Flint[Cyphr]> "yes it is.." flint drifts into though "I wonder if i can negotiate a finder's keeper's policy on salvage with the crew, there is still some space in the boot"
539[20:35] <Rhaun> "Bumbling... Tell that to whatever foul beast dares cross me as I slam a spike through it's wretched body and spill its guts onto this disgusting trash heap of a floor"
540[20:36] <Flint[Cyphr]> (why do I keep saying boot? I'm not british.)
54106[20:36] * Khorne laughs at Rhaun's comment
542[20:36] <Khorne> "While we may appear bumbling to them when we are inexperienced in the trade, we will most definitely prove our worth in battle.
543[20:36] <Khorne> "
544[20:36] <Rhaun> "I'm more than capable of following skittering creatures looking for salvage and slaughtering anything that gets in my way"
545[20:37] <Khorne> "It was more of an appearance Rhaun, we do not want them alarmed at our skill in battle."
546[20:37] <Khorne> "lest they turn on us"
547[20:37] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I doubt they would turn on us for beign too skilled, likely they would just give us a bonus, or hire us on again"
548[20:38] <Rhaun> "If they turn on us, and it isn't out of fright for their lives, then they themselves would be considered evil creatures. Who suffers an evil creature"
549[20:38] <Khorne> "I think of the worst, in such....strange...circumstances."
550[20:38] <Khorne> "Indeed, let us continue on then. Less time we waste means more time to practice our trade."
551[20:39] <Flint[Cyphr]> "It never hurts to be paraoid, but I was raised to assume the best of people until poven otherwise"
55206[20:39] * Flint[Cyphr] splits from the others and hunts for a trade convey to offer services to
553[20:39] <Rhaun> "Bumbling. Haha. Let us find a job then"
55406[20:41] * Khorne follows Flint[Cyphr]'s lead
55506[20:42] * Flint[Cyphr] looks around for one of the larger established outfits
55606[20:43] * Mikhail says to Flint "Why not find a smaller squad, who would need our help more and we could divide the spoils fewer ways?"
55704[20:43] <~Popscythe> There are several large Salvage Teams in the Market, near the center of what was once the giant ship. Open air booths and stalls abound, as the constant, clammy temperature of the dimension that never changes night to day untouched by wind or breeze does not require much shelter. It swarms with creatures of all types, with no one type of creature being more common than the others and most beings seemingly a unique type. A truely multiversal host. Goods of all varities from Magic to Munitions are offered for what would be a trifle on Earth, but Water is rarest of all and the occasional recreational beverage from another dimension valued far more than the purest gold.
558[20:43] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Khorne suggested we go with a larger crew, learn what we can from them for the night crew, do you disagree?"
55904[20:44] <~Popscythe> Around you all manners of creature trade sorcery for services and enchantments for energy rifles with the services of experts from a thousand worlds sold as commonly as a hackjob cyberdoc in a slum on your planet.
560[20:44] <Flint[Cyphr]> "both going with a large or small crew has it's benefits and disadvantages, but I think a large crew would be useful for the salvage tricks we might learn"
561[20:44] <Mikhail> "Both make sense."
562[20:45] <Flint[Cyphr]> "well I agree with khorne, if we have a feel for how salvage can be done well, we can be mroe than just guards once night returns"
563[20:45] <Khorne> "We can find a smaller crew at night, for then we can split it even better for ourselves"
564[20:47] <Rhaun> "Based on what we gathered here, night time is dangerous. It's assumed that night would be taken by experienced, larger crews where the small crews would stay and remain safe inside the confines of the city"
565[20:47] <Khorne> "Agreed, let us see if we can find a crew that is willing to do both. Maybe they will take us on both incursions, once we have proven our worth during the day."
566[20:47] <Flint[Cyphr]> "possibly, but it sounded to me that only the insanely brave or suicidal dared go out at night, it seems to me the large ones would play it safe and stay inside"
567[20:48] <Rhaun> "It was just a thought. I may be wrong, it matters not to me if we go out with an experienced crew or not during the night"
568[20:49] <Khorne> "Regardless, let us pick a crew experienced in it's trade for now. We are wasting too much time deciding."
569[20:49] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Agreed"
57006[20:49] * Khorne marches forwards towards any booth that has more...weathered individuals
571[20:49] <Rhaun> "What is time in a land of nothing..."
572[20:50] <Flint[Cyphr]> "simply a count til the end of our days"
57304[20:50] <~Popscythe> The largest Salvage Company you find immediately upon entering the Market resides in a building that stands apart, constructed almost entirely from the same or very similar materials, a true mark of distinction in this place, seeming opulent in a sea of tacked-together shanties and scrap-booths. "City Water Company" is the name of the operation, but "HIRING: PROFESSIONAL SALVAGE TEAMS" is constantly spouted in multiple languages from large speakers mounted in the building's facade. Many of the languages are foreign to you, but the look of the building and the trio of massively power-armored guards out front, all dressed in identical models of demonic-looking heavy power armor that you are not familar with and bearing heavy weapons lets you know that this group holds the type of Power one could learn from.
57404[20:52] <~Popscythe> As you approach the exterior of the building, the guards speak to you over loudspeakers. "Stop! State your Business."
575[20:52] <Khorne> "We are travelers, yearning to learn the trade, would you take us?"
57604[20:52] <~Popscythe> All three guards bear heavy railguns, in additon to their armor's systems, each holding it with professional ease.
57706[20:53] * Flint[Cyphr] keeps his hands visible
578[20:53] <Khorne> "We wish to embark on a night mission, but have not the experience that may be required, so we ask that you humbly teach us the trade"
579[20:53] <Khorne> (I'm guessing we already suited up and the like)
580[20:53] <Khorne> (correct?)
58106[20:53] * Rhaun groans "I am no traveler, but a seasoned slayer of beasts"
58204[20:54] <~Popscythe> (I assume you always suit up to go outside unless you tell me you're rolling naked and famous)
583[20:54] <Flint[Cyphr]> (when do we ever not stay suited up)
584[20:54] <Khorne> (just gotta be clear, in case of anything :p )
585[20:54] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I've left my GB in the hangar for now, so I'm in bushman armor)
586[20:54] <Flint[Cyphr]> (I don't thnnk people would enjoy me wandering around with the boomgun)
587[20:54] <Rhaun> (w...why would you ever be out of the glitterboy..)
588[20:55] <Flint[Cyphr]> (because I atrophy if I stay in it for more than 7 days)
589[20:55] <Flint[Cyphr]> (and then I have to spend 3 weeks excerising to get rid of the penalties)
590[20:56] <Flint[Cyphr]> (basically better to actually wander around in a suit whenever the opertunity arrises)
59104[20:57] <~Popscythe> The lead guard takes a step forward, appearing to look your group over. "We only hire experienced teams. You've got interesting gear, though. Tell me where you are staying and we'll send someone to contact you if we have room on a Team for recruits."
592[20:57] <Flint[Cyphr]> "We're with the garrison" /me gives directions on how to contact them
593[20:58] <Flint[Cyphr]> "I didn't bring it with me, but I have a G-10 if that will affect your decision"
59404[20:59] <~Popscythe> The Guard nods, his demonic-looking black power armor gleaming in the odd light. "Interesting. We will definitely be in touch."
595[20:59] <Rhaun> "We are very experienced in ways other than picking up salvage"
59604[21:00] <~Popscythe> "I understand. We may send someone."
597[21:00] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Well thank you for your time"
59804[21:00] <~Popscythe> The Guard gestures with his railgun. "Disperse. Do not remain here."
59906[21:01] * Flint[Cyphr] turns to the others "Shall we try an up and comign crew instead? I suspect they will be more interested"
60006[21:01] * Flint[Cyphr] scoots away quickly
60106[21:01] * Khorne nods
602[21:02] <Khorne> "while they may be willing, it will take too long. we need a crew to go with immediately.
60306[21:02] * Mikhail nods.
604[21:02] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Exactly, find a departing crew ask if they room for four more."
605[21:02] <Mikhail> "Then we will need to find someone who needs us."
606[21:02] <Flint[Cyphr]> "we can negotiate payment on the way, although I don't care much for the terms of the contract"
607[21:02] <Flint[Cyphr]> (contract are*)
60806[21:03] * Khorne looks for another crew of similar criteria but are more short staffed
609[21:04] <Flint[Cyphr]> "let's split, radio if you find a job"
610[21:05] <Khorne> "very well, everyone has their own way of finding something..."
61106[21:06] * Flint[Cyphr] heads towards the hangar to grab Demonbane, then heads for the gates
612[21:06] <Flint[Cyphr]> +to find any crews that look small
613[21:06] <Rhaun> "I will follow one of you as I have no communications device, besides, the more present when asking for a job such as this, the better.. I believe they would want to see the whole group"
61406[21:07] * Rhaun follows Khorne for the moment
61506[21:07] * Khorne nods
616[21:07] <Khorne> " Let us head off then"
617[21:07] <Flint[Cyphr]> "wait a moment!"
61804[21:07] <~Popscythe> You find another group who looks well-equipped Khorne, having several robot vehicles and a good sized convoy near their large scrap building. Signs in various langages that probably indicate hiring or money hang from the exterior of the building, covering any space easy to reach in signs handlettered and printed in an amazing collection of types and kinds. As you approach, your low-power radio receives a signal half in some garbled alien language. "SALVAGE. NEED SALVAGE? MERCENARY."
61906[21:07] * Flint[Cyphr] rummages in his storage bin for his walkie-talkie
62006[21:07] * Khorne stops abruptly
62106[21:07] * Mikhail trundles off to investigate the smaller outfits, hoping his natural gregariousness will win people over despite his frightening visage. He also keeps an eye out for Grant, hoping the living ancient can direct him to a useful group.
62206[21:08] * Flint[Cyphr] tosses it at rhaun "I had forgotten I had that, it's yours now"
62306[21:08] * Khorne walks to in front of the convoy
624[21:08] <Flint[Cyphr]> "It should alreay be set correctly, if it isn't I'm sure you and khorne can figure it out"
625[21:08] <Khorne> "Hello, it says here that you may be hiring?"
62606[21:08] * Khorne points at the sign
627[21:09] <Khorne> (repeating first in american english, then japanese for effect)
628[21:09] <Flint[Cyphr]> (american or euro english?)
62904[21:09] <~Popscythe> Several mechanics and techs respond in various ways, "Yeah! Go see the boss inside. You can't miss him."
63006[21:10] * Khorne walks inside to look
63106[21:10] * Rhaun follows behind
63206[21:10] * Flint[Cyphr] is looking for other convoys, unware that khorne and rhaun found a job
633[21:11] <Khorne> "Hello, I am looking for the leader/boss? I was told you are hiring"
63406[21:11] * Khorne says, loud enough for the inside of the enclosure to hear
63504[21:11] <~Popscythe> Just inside, a large armored creature that somewhat resembles a human-sized octopus in power armor works several computers at once with varios armored tentacles, greeting you with a bubbling voice through a speaker in American. "Yes?"
63604[21:11] <~Popscythe> "Yes."
637[21:12] <Khorne> "I am one of 4, travelers, who seek work, in order to learn the trade. With me is Rhaun, and I am Khorne"
63806[21:13] * Rhaun stands still, watching the encounter while observing his surroundings
639[21:13] <Khorne> "We had tried City Water Company, but they seem too...good...for our services."
64004[21:14] <~Popscythe> "You provide own armor and ammo, you come along make, 2 quart water each, you gotta shoot if we say shoot. Leave in two hour, come back in ten hour. Deal?"
64104[21:14] <~Popscythe> Its speech is fragmented and odd.
642[21:15] <Rhaun> "We will "shoot" if it is attacking and dangerous, our services do not include harming innocent life"
643[21:15] <Khorne> "Sounds good, but do you mind teaching the way of the trade? We are new and unfamiliar with scavenging or salvaging the Sea"
64406[21:15] * Khorne nods in agreement with Rhaun
64506[21:15] * Mikhail nods.
64604[21:16] <~Popscythe> Flint, you wander out near the gates, looking for departing salvage teams in your glimmering G10. Even in the low light is shines, the reconstruction having gone well, it seems. It doesn't appear that any of the groups departing this area are stopping to speak with even a Glitterboy attempting to flag them down, convoys already in motion. You do see Mikhail wandering around however and both of you spot Grant just inside the perimeter, working the radio as usual.
64706[21:16] * Flint[Cyphr] radios in "any luck guys?"
64804[21:17] <~Popscythe> "You're looking well, boys!" Grant calls to you as he spots you, not a difficult task.
649[21:17] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Seems like it, having issue finding work though, City Waterjust waved us off"
650[21:17] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Your doctors and mechanics did wonders, pass my thanks on to them"
65104[21:17] <~Popscythe> The armored octopus-like creature waggles its various tentacles a bit in what you assume might be a gesture that doesn't translate and taps at a few keyboads with the tips of others.
652[21:18] <Khorne> "I will be back"
65306[21:18] * Khorne heads outside to talk to the convoy
65404[21:18] <~Popscythe> "Not Pirates, just shoot monster and Pirate. You learn fast or fall in pit and die. We keep water you die, no group payout."
65506[21:19] * Khorne stops abruptly
656[21:19] <Khorne> "Sounds good, let me talk to my team."
65704[21:19] <~Popscythe> The creature waggles again.
65806[21:19] * Khorne radios, "Looks like we have a deal, a group is leaving in 2 hours, and theyre ready for anything. Want to go, ourr shop around more?"
659[21:21] <Flint[Cyphr]> "sounds good, besides we're burning day light shopping around"
66004[21:21] <~Popscythe> Grant laughs over his suit's speaker. "City Water Company does exactly what they want when they want. Probably best not to get involved with them, they're not team players. I will pass on your thanks of course, but you make sure to respond when there's an Alarm and that's all the thanks we need. Hell, you respond and you're helping yourself as much as you're helping me. Gotta get water from somewhere, right?"
66106[21:21] * Khorne nods at the creature
662[21:21] <Khorne> "Sounds like a deal, do we just wait with the convoy outside?"
66306[21:21] * Khorne extends his hand to shake on the deal
664[21:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Yes sir, I was planning to come runnign anway, if nothign else, the sound of a boomgun, does wonders for morale once shit hits the fan"
665[21:22] <Flint[Cyphr]> (wow i failed at spelling and puncuation that time)
66604[21:22] <~Popscythe> "No wait, be here two hour or wait, not important. We leave when time. You get lost trying follow, you probably die."
667[21:23] <Khorne> "Ok, works for me."
668[21:23] <Flint[Cyphr]> "sounds like Khorne just landed us a job with one of the other companies, thanks for the tip about City Water Grant"
66906[21:23] * Khorne radios to Flint[Cyphr] and Mikhail the location of where to meet in two hours
670[21:23] <Khorne> "I will wait here, I'm sure Rhaun will do the same. Let us be ready by then."
67104[21:23] <~Popscythe> "Of course, friend. Stay safe out there."
67206[21:24] * Flint[Cyphr] replies to khorne, letting them know Grant recommended staying clear of city water
673[21:24] <Khorne> "Hah, I figured as much, they only help themselves..."
674[21:24] <Flint[Cyphr]> 'You too, I'm probably crazy for doing it, but we're going to do a night shift salvage once the night hits"
675[21:24] <Rhaun> "Generally corruption in that sort of behaviour.."
676[21:25] <Khorne> "Alas, it is not our fight for that sort of evil this day, Rhaun. Maybe another time.
677[21:25] <Khorne> "
67804[21:25] <~Popscythe> Grant shrugs and taps at your armor gently with one knuckle. "Just don't fall in some pit. Watch carefully where the scouts walk and bring strong lights and more lights if you can trade for them. Bandits love shooting at your lights."
67904[21:26] <~Popscythe> "You lose this old girl in the Sea in the dark, you're never going to see her again. Hell, we'll never see you again either."
680[21:27] <Mikhail> "You mentioned bandits, and other settlements, before. How many groups are there in the Sea?"
681[21:27] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Is it really that dangerous out there? It seemed realativily safe when we arrived yesterday, I didn't see any pits or anything."
682[21:28] <Rhaun> "I have no proof of such crimes, lucky for them"
68304[21:29] <~Popscythe> Grant shrugs again. "Who knows? I've never met anyone who's been more than a thousand miles or so in any direction and they didn't see any end to the Sea, even on long distance radar. Not even Teleportation has brought anyone to more than small patches of ground, maybe the top of some giant mountain? I don't know. Here and there in the Sea in any direction you go, you find settlements. Seems like sometimes whole sections of a town will get dumped here, or a wrecked ship maybe. Hell even groups of Rifters who ended up here instead of where they were headed. Some of them just plop down and try to survive, some make it here."
68404[21:30] <~Popscythe> "I know of at least ten or fifteen little settlements, most without more than 50 people. Of course, by now they could well be gone, swallowed up by the Sea."
68504[21:30] <~Popscythe> "You want to try mapping them out, The Council will pay you, they're always hiring Explorers."
686[21:30] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Has any one ever tried to establish trade, or at least lines of communicatons betwen the settlements, it might bring some stability"
68704[21:31] <~Popscythe> Grant shakes his head, face obscured by armor. "Of course, Explorers rarely make it back."
688[21:31] <Flint[Cyphr]> "sadly, a G-10 would probably make a horrible exploration platform, it's just too slow and illsuited to some situations, especially with as little ammounition left as I have"
689[21:32] <Flint[Cyphr]> "Khorne's armor on the other hand would likely be very good for it"
690[21:32] <Khorne> (hears a sudden ping from the distance and runs to it...whats going on? who called me? hahaha jk :p )
69104[21:33] <~Popscythe> "We try. Mostly the settlements just come here, unless there's something special where they've settled. Some actually have found semi-regular sources of water and even soil which they trade for. Some Merchants deal with them, but not on highly established routes. It's just too irregular. One day you go and the settlement is buried under a thousand tons of burning metal or is filled with Demons, or sometimes the whole place is just... gone. Maybe you navigated wrong, maybe it's gone."
692[21:34] <Flint[Cyphr]> "what about radios? are they in short enough supply that logn range radio is out of the question?"
693[21:34] <Flint[Cyphr]> "If nothign else it might give some explanation when they go missing"
69404[21:34] <~Popscythe> "There's some radio, we broadcast high power radio of course. They use radio generally as well, but still, that doesn't save them in the event of something tragic happening."
695[21:35] <Flint[Cyphr]> "true, and tragic, but at least someone knows what happened to them"
696[21:36] <Flint[Cyphr]> (i'm continuing this banter until you say the 2 hour wait is up pop, Grant is cool)
697[21:36] <Mikhail> "Bah! This wretched place! A Sea is exactly what it is. Treacherous and evershifting."
