There’s a “no need to panic” section at Apple’s iTunes where you can download the app the company used to track your activity. All was not well for me when I first opened it. The app was riddled with errors and even required me to clear it of data before I could proceed with a few of the app’s requirements. Here’s an example of an entry that requires an iTunes purchase to progress past a step labeled “Adopt”: After deleting it the next time iTunes opens, when I return I notice that even though the “Adopt” option still exists for my selected item in iTunes, it has disappeared from the menu and it has been scrubbed from the screen. If I open the section as I previously did before the hack, iTunes seems to check back and continue adding that item to my shopping cart. This process lets the thief’s Xcode (Apple’s Developer IDE) see what you’ve purchased and even allow him to keep you watching where you’ve recently bought, and within the store, something you were previously unaware of. There’s a wealth of data out there now about when you shop online that you might have otherwise overlooked and the thief could turn that information to use as leverage to convince you to buy products that were previously online. In the end, I’d likely never have set foot in the bar had it not been for the thief’s bug. I'm not particularly concerned with people buying without logging in at least once.
