1Protecting Content in LibreOfficeDev Writer
2The following is an overview of the different ways of protecting contents in LibreOfficeDev Writer from being modified or deleted.
3Protecting Sections in LibreOfficeDev Writer
4Any section of a LibreOfficeDev Writer text document can be protected against changes with or without a password.

6This protection is not intended to be a secure protection. It is just a switch to protect the section against accidental changes.

8Turning on of protection
9Create or select a section:
101. If the section does not exist: Select the text. Go to the Insert - Section... in menu.
112. If the section already exists: Go to the Format - Sections... in menu and select the section, or in the Navigator to select the section, then open the context menu in the Navigator and choose the Edit... item.
12Enable a protection
131. If you want the protection without a password, choose the Protect check box under the Write protection.
142. If you want the protection with a password, choose the the Protect and With password check boxes, enter and confirm the password of at least five characters.
15Modification of protection
16Go to the Format - Sections... in menu and select the section, or in the Navigator to select the section, then open the context menu in the Navigator and choose the Edit... item.
171. If the protection has no a password, and you want to give it, choose the With password, enter and confirm the password of at least five characters.
182. If the protection has a password, and you want only to clear it, you can uncheck the With password undrer the Write protection and enter the correct password.
193. If the protection has a password, and you want only to change it, you can click to the Password button in the Write protection, enter the correct password, and in the new window, enter and confirm the new password of at least five characters.

21Go to the Format - Sections... in menu and select the section, or in the Navigator to select the section, then open the context menu in the Navigator and choose the Edit... item.
221. If the protection has no a password, uncheck the Protect undrer the Write protection.
232. If the protection has a password, uncheck the Protect undrer the Write protection and enter the correct password.
24Protecting Cells in a LibreOfficeDev Writer Table
25You can protect the contents of individual cells of tables or whole table in LibreOfficeDev Writer from changes.

30For one, several cells or whole table, place the cursor in a cell or select cells, or select whole table, if it is needed. Go to the Table - Protect Cells in menu.

33First, if necessary, choose Tools - Options - LibreOfficeDev Writer - Formatting Aids and choose Protected Areas - Enable cursor.

351. For one or a few cells, place the cursor in the cell or select the cells. Go to the Tools - Unprotect Cells in menu
362. For whole table, select the table in the Navigator, open the context menu and select Table - Unprotect.
37Automatic Protection of Indexes and Tables
38Tables of contents and indexes created automatically in a LibreOfficeDev Writer text are automatically protected against accidental changes.

441. Go to Edit Index... in the context menu. On the Type tab, choose Protected against manual changes.

48First of all, if necessary, go to Tools - Options - LibreOfficeDev Writer - Formatting Aids , check Protected Areas - Enable cursor.

501. Place the cursor in the index. Go to Edit Index... from the context menu. On the Type tab page, uncheck Protected against manual changes.
512. In the Navigator, select the index, then open the context menu in the Navigator and uncheck Index - Read-only.
