Note: On more specific power level guidelines, attack bonuses should range around +30-50, AC should range around 30-50, saves should range around +15-25. Maximum damage in one round should not exceed 600. Your baseline for Balor comparison is a Balor with 15 class levels (one track, 5 RHD). Yes, these guidelines are deliberately vague, but this is due to the also vague nature of many balance elements not being numerical.

Note: On lore, much of the standard planar cosmology will be kept, but

Couple of more Qs

71) So for the theme are we doing an isekai (transported to other world) kind of game? Or just we are RPing players running characters in an MMO?

92) Guilds play a pretty big part of MMOs. Will that be part of things? Is or is this more random guys / party based?

113) I noticed that no leadership / spawn is a thing. :P As a necromancer does that apply to hoards of un-class leveled undead as well? It is not like their are not other ways to make a necromancer, fear and debuff come right to mind, and I am fine with that. I just wanted to get clarifications here to know which direction to build.

134) Is it possible to get a bit more guidance on power level? 1 Balrog, but not 4, was a good goal until we learned they were not std Balrogs. Don't do thousands of hp a round is ok, but still a pretty loose upper bound. There is a big difference between a PC that can do say 1000 hp/r dmg, and one that can do 300. Does not really matter what we target IMO, so long as we are in the same ball park, and you are okay with it from a challenge perspective. Any guidance on AC / HP / saves that you are looking for? And, as an addendum, if picked, can we revise up or down as needed to match the other players?

151. While it's okay to just play the game as a video game, we would prefer it if you immersed yourself in the world as a world itself. We made it a full dive VR experience for a reason!

172. Guilds will exist! Though the current guild system is fairly basic, most of the basic features (guild halls, guild banks, etc) will exist.

193. That does not apply to necromancer's undead. This restriction is mainly intended to prevent indefinite numbers of creatures or extra, strong characters.

214. See above note.

But it is neither new nor unfamiliar. As previously stated, it simply functions as an update to the Binder Class from the 3.5 content. Giving other classes the ability to summon and bind spirits as a Binder could.

If the Pact Magic feature is being disallowed due to the fact that you do not know of the new spirits that can be bound with it, then how about a compromise? Allowing for the new archetypes to be used, but restricting players to only be allowed to use the old 3.5 spirits instead? That way there should be little concern or confusion as to what the system can do, as it is simply utilizing one already in place.

That being said. There is are a few other questions to be made.

First. There are rumours of there being certain locations in the world that allow people to gain a feat after visiting and performing a special task at this location. Either permanently, or temporarily, often for a year. Through it also comes at a reduction to your gold, either directly or a buff that negates the next X amount of gold you would gain. Do these locations exist in the game, and are we allowed to access them during the remake of our characters?

Secondly. Is the Dragon Magazine Feat Easy Metamagic, which allows you to reduce the Metamagic cost of 1 specific feat by 1 spell level, allowed?

Third. The item Crystal Echoblade is a Longsword that when I am performing a Bardic Performance, allows me to add half of my bard level to damage with its attacks as sonic damage. Is it acceptable to turn this into a different form of weapon? Such as a Sword Cane?

Fourth. Older games had different worlds known as 'Planes', that could only be access via portals or the Planeshift spell. Does the game currently have any 'Planes' beyond the Material Plane, or will they be implemented in a future update?

While it is conceptually the same, the execution is significantly different. New archetypes must also be reviewed before use.

Those locations do exist, though they will not be allowed during character creation.

Easy Metamagic is not approved.

Crystal Echoblade's specific enchantment may be applied to other weapon types.

Planes do exist! See the above note on lore for more details.

This seems to allow for "custom" Items at full price even if one has crafting feats

So if I wanted to create say some sort of Potion/oil/spellvial/alchemical mixture - injection combat gloves
MW. Leather Gloves 301 gp + Alchemical Mixtures (tbd) say 4,000 gp worth + potion/vial/flask injection device (aka 3 short needles) specialized masterwork tool 100 gp
* would said gloves be allowed as there is no crafting feat asscociated to reduce its cost even if the character had say all the craft reduction feats ?

You may combine items at listed cost for custom items.

Crafting feats do not grant any gold cost reduction.

If you wish to create a set of Poisoner's Gloves with multiple uses per day, simply multiply the cost of the item by the number of daily uses you wish for it to have (maximum 5/day).

I've seen items on the market that are selling for far less than their price on the wiki because they have restrictions on who can use them (namely requiring particular classes, having a skill prereq, tying in with the ethics/morals subsystem, or even some combination of the three). I've never been particularly sure about the balance of these options and I'm curious to know if they're still a possibility.

I realize this has clearly been a headache for the devs, but since I don't see it mentioned in the patch notes, and it's flip-flopped a few times, I have to ask: for staff rules are we using classic staffs or staves 2.0?

Not directly related to item-crafting but items so close enough: a few patches back Early Firearms were introduced into the crafting system, with Advanced Firearms mentioned as being ultra-rare drops in high-level hoards, but basically everyone I've talked to hasn't even heard of anybody finding one, with only a few unconfirmed videos on Youtube claiming to located revolvers and WWI era rifles. What going on with these weapons?

I swear I feel like I missed an Animal Companion patch or something because I still have so many questions.

AFAIK, Animal Companions require the player to spend time actively directing them in order to get them to do anything (unless you're operating under the Mounted Combat rules instead, but that's a whole different mess of interactions), and that this is the case regardless of any Int-boosts given to said animal. One of the devs commented on this, insisting that intellect and sapience aren't really connected like that (...fair enough I guess?), and also that while the AI exists for animals directing themselves in combat (such a thing is necessary for druids and rangers to "direct" their ACs without significant action expenditure, as well as for any Awakened animal), the server requirements for running such bots was simply too significant to expand to all animals with more than the standard Int 2. Given that this comment was quite some time back, that technology has progressed quite a bit in that time, and the fact that due to the increases in character resources (particular the item and level caps introduced in this update) animals with intelligence rivaling or even surpassing starting characters are well within the bounds of possibility, I was wondering if this "self-directed animal" AI was still so limited in scope.

Since nothing in the patch notes mentioned this, and I know at least one person abusing it, I figured I'd ask: awhile back it was discovered that the Animal Companion stacking rules allowed not just for single-track multiclassers to not lose AC progression, but also allowed multi-track characters to effectively double their AC progression by getting a companion that's on both lists...and this would be potentially increased to triple in the current version given the expansion to the multi-track character generation method. The person in question was particular fond of comboing this with the similar mechanic in Halfling Outrider to great effect, and I've no doubt that with this change to the multi-track system they'll find a way to slap druid onto that same build to jump from EDL 50 to EDL 80 (on top of getting druid spellcasting that will really ramp up their ability to buff their AC). Given that this combo wasn't acknowledged within the patch notes, is that confirmation that this AC-stacking is a feature instead of a bug, or did I miss a patch fixing this?

Thankfully a simple question this time, just wanna confirm that the "Mix 'n' Match" archetype system mentioned in the update also extends to Animal Companion archetypes.

I know the team's been betaing Legendary Talents in preparation for the Epic Update, and I'm curious whether all the ones currently one the wiki (many thanks, assorted wikiwarriors!) are still official and allowed during chargen.

There's a few people who've hit up my twitter feed the past week wanting me to ask about some community concerns regarding non-practitioners gaining Might Talents, one of which I was aware of and the other of which I didn't even realize was a thing. So the first issue: in the wake of the Spheres Update, people noted that the method by which non-practitioners gained Might Talents gave you approximately two talents per feat, which caused a bit of a snit since talents are already by default stronger than feats, but also it weakens the value of the Extra Combat Talent feat by comparison. Since it's not patched in the notes, I'm assuming this trade-off exists to reward somebody who invests more in the Spheres rather than dabbling, which makes sense to me, but the masses probably need an official response.

The second concern regarding those very same rules is something so esoteric I flat-out missed it myself in the previous patch-notes, but once it was pointed out to me I could see where clarification could prove necessary. So, to quote the rule, "Characters who gain a combat talent progression in this manner gain it only for levels gained in classes that do not grant a combat talent progression or High Caster casting progression (including classes that grant 9th level spellcasting or an equivalent), adding all such levels together to determine their total number of combat talents, but still losing the exchanged feats." So obviously in a normal game, this just gives you a "multiclass progression" for all classes you have that don't have a default progression of their own, which clears up a lot of MC issues in Spheres. However, as is usually the case, what is built to balance multiclassing breaks in gestalt: there is apparently a group within the community that insists this rule description is deceptive because exchanging feats for a talent progression only affected one track even if both tracks were not practitioners. Which, by the way, means that yes there are people in the community claiming that the rules for turning feats into talents give too many talents (as per the previous question) and too few talents (as per this one).

Seeing as at least some of the work of infamous modder N. Jolly has made it into the official game (in the form of the Spheres updates), I was wondering if his work with Legendary Games to create the various "Legendary {Class}" mods were also shipping with the new version. I've got a few I've got my eye on, particularly Vigilante and Gunslinger, but thus far I've only seen rumors about this from internet randos, and would appreciate an official response.

Speaking of popular homebrew rumored to be joining the official game, I've been hearing very interesting news about Draken's Evolutionist. Not sure if kosher, so figured I'd ask.

I know that certain people within the community are touchy subjects for the devs, but banning modders doesn't ban their mods, and there's an issue I saw cropping up in the wake of the Spheres Update: namely, the SoM interaction when paired with the Whirler. It'd be a load off my chest to know that loopholes in custom class design allowing for arbitrarily high BAB have been closed, rendering this combo dead in the water.

In lighter news, unless I'm misunderstanding the announcement, Rogue Genius Games is now official content instead of mods? If so, that's exciting, I've long been a fan of their modular Godling material, even if some other people aren't so fond.

Items with such restrictions were typically plot-specific and will retain the current listed prices. Such reductions will not be available at for other items.

We will be using the updated version for staff rules!

The current firearm ruleset is Emerging Guns. Early and Advanced Firearms are available, but the latter will typically need to be player crafted.

Animal Companions have been given improved AIs and will be able to take proper commands.

Effective Druid Level (for animal companions) will be capping at 20 from levels. Should you have specific abilities that increase your EDL by a static amount, those are applied after the cap.

Yes, Archetype Unlocks do apply to animal companions, though normal prerequisite restrictions still do apply.

Legendary Talents are allowed!

The trade-off is indeed for that. Additionally, since Might Talents tend towards being parts of a whole (rather than being abilities where a standalone Talent is particularly strong), having more allows for that synergy. Additionally, Extra Combat Talent is mainly meant for those who already have Might Talents.

This rule applies across all tracks. At any given level, if a class naturally gains a combat talent progression, the trade-off does not apply for that level.

Legendary Class mods will only be reviewed if they are publically available.

Evolutionist is approved!

Whirler is not approved.

Rogue Genius Games is still considered a mod and their material must still be requested as normal.

Just a bit of fun
Initial thoughts from a Dragons of Alna alpha playtester...

Overview: Dragons of Alna in its first truly playable incarnation had some pretty intriguing concepts but fell flat due to a lack of breadth to match the wonderful depth it clearly displayed back at last year’s gaming convention. That being said, the fantasy world, inspired by classic tabletop roleplaying, felt so immersive and addicting that I just couldn’t put it down. While the list of races had almost no difference and the parallel leveling system only had about as many classes to choose from as any other MMO, you could journey through the world by following the path laid out for you or take full control of your destiny and of the NPCs around you by completely subverting each unique adventure, mission, or even the entire main campaign! Since the new patch is launching, all signs point to the major weaknesses of the game being completely uprooted with some major overhauls. Let’s hope these changes make the game better rather than worse.

Immersion: While the first actually playable beta run really did do a number on the sheer expanse of map space you could explore back in the alpha stage, the NPCs and tutorial zone were so lifelike it almost felt like I wasn’t playing a game at all, especially since every little detail had me stick around for more; I never felt a desire to sprint as far as I could to clear my map, since the decisions I was able to make were seemingly limitless in the moment.

Action: The combat system tries to do too much at times, but it really couldn’t work any other way. Kudos to the devs for making the game playable as a dps fighter next to a buff-tank cleric that calls up agents of his god to argue with the CC wizard on why summoning devils is a bad idea.

Character Content: It originally seemed like a bad idea to add a third parallel to the existing leveling system due to the rather small range of classes to choose from, but since the leak a while back about opening up non-traditional RPG classes was confirmed I’ve got nothing but praise for the devs this time around. It looks like they learned from the mistakes they made back in their old single-player releases (such as Children of Alna & CoA2 and Asmodeus: Grasping Divinity), and the long-time fans will definitely be happy about it. The devs also pretty plainly came out and stated they’d accept high-quality player-made content before the final release, so the modding community is scrambling to create last-ditch submissions; if any of them makes a half-decent options filter for all the available official material, I’m installing that mod ASAP. There’s too much good stuff to miss out on, here!

PvE Content: While it looks like the devs are taking character creation a lot more seriously, they aren’t having any second thoughts about removing the campaign creator. Gone are the days where your main PC could fill a demiplane with an arbitrarily high number of Rocs and set a Finger of Death spell trap to a lever your side characters pulled to instantly max their level! In my eyes, a welcome change. The ridiculously efficient XP farming completely removed replayability, and it could be easily tinkered with by modders and hackers, so this is the best decision.

PvP Content: While it looks like Friendly Fire is now constantly on (except for those of us specializing in shaping AoEs), true player killing is now definitively removed for the time being. Either that, or I just ran into a strange bug where I was immune to all my allies’ weapons outside of combat.

In-Game Currency: My absolute favorite thing about this game is that it is not, nor will it ever be, pay to win! All content will remain free forever, so long as Patreon subscribers keep paying and players keep backing the DLC Kickstarters. We will all remain infinitely grateful to those of you premium members that support the Patreon. You’re not just helping the devs; the community loves you.

The takeaway: While it may or may not still be a little rough, I definitely recommend installation of Dragons of Alna (once it officially launches). I give it my stamp of approval.
P.S.: The only reason I got to play the alpha and pre-first-patch beta was because of my Let’sPlays of Children of Alna 2 and Asmodeus: GD. You can bet I’ll keep playing after I complete the new version (after I come running back for another review)!

Thanks for reading,
Jasper2552

P.P.S.: I wanted to reveal my in-game level 20 build for the new patch for anyone interested, so I’ll put in a link once I’m back on my laptop at home. Note that despite being Humanoid, he is able to emulate other creatures with disguises. This had the neat side-effect of qualifying me to enter non-humanoid safe zones such as the Scorpion Pits, which had a sand dragon quest giver and yuan-ti rune guards to prevent humanoid entry (the shops there had AMAZING gear like you wouldn’t believe, devs if you’re reading this please nerf)!

I should probably confirm but can I make a demiplane a biome? What about a constant season?

I'm thinking I may make a few pocket biomes, a home plane (done up like a tavern), and link it all together. That way I can spend my like 33 hours (if nothing stacks and I somehow all my recipes from Gourmend take an hour) (probably closer to 13 hours) every morning cooking in a safe enough place.

You may impose a biome (using the Bountiful option) and a season (using the Seasonal option).

Fair enough.

I was also wondering what are the gods in the server, are they going to be active?
I would like to make sure that the primordial giant (secrets of Xen'drik) implemented in earlier versions of the servers is still LA +0, there might be some concerns about the interaction with half giants and other such classes.
I also wanted to make sure the patch notes for psychic mage are correct. It appears that Formulaic powers, arcane power, and arcanomorph are gained for free. Would it make more sense if they were gained as part of the psionic infusion feature?
I am not certain of how two parts interact, as part of eternal form an ascendant can spend pp to use basic magic training at 1st level. Am I correct in reading this as the ascendant cannot benefit of other sources of caster level for this effect? For example what would happen if the ascendant were to take advanced magic training (which gives a CL)?
Speaking of the patch notes were unclear, does the advanced magic training feat give access to casting traditions?

See above for lore.

It should be, but there does not seem to be a noticeable difference, as the arcane school class feature is traded away regardless.

Advanced Magic Training would give you a CL, but you would not be able to benefit from it with Eternal Form.

Advanced Magic Training does grant access to casting traditions.

Ah, I realize that I never asked to make sure that material from Arcforge: Psibertech was allowed. Is Psibertech allowed, or no? Psibertech works like already existing Cybertech, except you can also trade out feats or psionic powers known for them.

I will note that the book came out in like, January, so I'm more than fine with sharing it.
Please link material to be reviewed. Content not available to the public is not available for use.

Pretty sure theres no pregame crafting allowed.

@DM if we have crafting feats or abilities that improve items we make can we apply them to items we've payed full price for? Asking for Ironsoul Forgemaster tbh.

You can. You will still have crafted them and benefit from any feats or abilities other than ones that reduce cost.

I have some room for two or three crafting feats if you can tell me exactly what items you want me to craft. I won't need any for myself, though.

@Morcleon What will the half-elf's Multitalented feature, and the Multitalented Mastery feat, do in this tristalt progression? FCB's are still limited to 1 per level even if you get multiple favored classes as a racial feature, right?

Favored Class Bonuses are indeed limited to one per level. Here, the feature mostly allows you to maintain those bonuses even as you level up.

I have been thinking about a build for a while. I like the idea of basically recreating Kratos from God of War, since this is meant to be an MMO. I have two classes I have wanted to try for some time, so I am requesting both, since they would almost perfectly recreate the character, right down to his inability to wear armour or carry a shield.

The Real Man: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?509313-Princess-Celestia-s-Homebrew-Corner&highlight=real+man

The Real Man was originally designed as a joke class, but it is actually mechanically very sound. I am quite happy to adjust the fluff to make it more sensible, though the idea of the Real Man is actually very similar to a character like Kratos.

I would also like to get a level adjustment for the half-dragon. If I am unable to build Kratos with available resources, I will probably try to recreate the protagonist from Skyrim, and starting as a half-dragon would be a good place to start for that. Here is the link to the half-dragon, to make things easier for the devs: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/half-dragon/

Hero Reborn is not approved. While it would be relatively well balanced for a class structure with a single class track, it provides too much to be used with a triple class track, where other tracks can be used to gain similar abilities.

Real Man is not approved. The joke that it uses is not a viewpoint that we would condone.

Half-Dragon: +3

You can purchase combat feats with a little work ("Training" is a +1 weapon property, and if you poke around a little, it's not overly hard to be wielding a large number of weapons at once, so for practical purposes, most combat feats are thus worth a touch over 4,300 gp). Spheres feats are a bit harder to get.

Weapon enchantments that grant non-attack effects may only be applied once per character. Most notably, this includes Defending and Training.

Hey admin Morcleon, are 3.5 spells allowed, or is it only Pathfinder?

There's a few 3.5 classes and PrC's running around, but I would just like to know what's on the table.

I'm thinking of using some vile and/or corrupt spell's for what it's worth.

Legacy spells are allowed except where they have been updated by the latest release (for example, polymorph and similar are replaced by the shape line of spells).

1) Incanter and Conscript seem to be twisted reflections of each other in a number of ways. One way they aren't is in regards to them specializing in specific Spheres: where Conscript can give up some of their Extra Talent class features for an additional sphere specialization, Incanter can only get the one, and only via feats. Would you be okay with me giving up a similar number of Incanter bonus magic talents for an additional magic sphere specialization?

3472) Since you've approved TempestFury's epic feats, would you also approve TempestFury's "Vow Of Poverty"? 348
3491. You may lose one talent at the same levels that Conscript does (1st, 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th) to gain an additional sphere specialization for Incanter.

Spellcasting: At each level except first and fifth, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level(and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Loreblade, you must decide which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

War Scholar(Ex): Training with the guild has allowed the Loreblade to cast spells with arcane gestures even while weighed down.

At 1st level, a Loreblade no longer suffers Arcane Spell Failure from light armor while casting spells from the class he chose to advance with this prestige class.

Scrollbook(Ex): At first level, the Loreblade is gifted a magic book called a Scrollbook. A Scrollbook looks like and has the same statistics as a Wizard's spellbook, and can similarly be improved with special materials. However, rather than being a reservoir for the Loreblade's magical knowledge, it serves as a sort of portable library for his collection of scrolls.

Any scroll - magical or mundane - may be added to the Scrollbook with a minute of work. Once added, the scroll may be accessed simply by turning to the correct page, and if magical, may be cast as any other scroll. A Scrollbook may hold an unlimited number of scrolls, does not gain weight with added scrolls, and always opens to the page the Loreblade desires to access; while held, accessing a scroll is a free action.

A Loreblade who uses a spellbook may combine his Scrollbook and spellbook at no cost with an hour's work. If lost or destroyed, a Loreblade may acquire a new Scrollbook from the guild for the same price as a spellbook.

Expanded Learning(Ex): Exposure to the guild's vast library has expanded your sphere of knowledge considerably, and it only continues to grow.

Starting at 2nd level, you gain a competence bonus to all Knowledge checks equal to half your class level.

Greater Scroll Proficiency(Ex): At 3rd level, the teachings of the guild has given the Loreblade the ability to add some of his own power to scrolls he casts.

Scrolls cast by the Loreblade use his caster level in place of their own, if his would be higher. In addition, the Loreblade may add metamagic upon casting the scroll, losing a spell slot or prepared spell of a level equivalent to the total adjustment of the applied metamagic. Because the scroll does some of the work in shaping the spell, this does not increase the casting time to cast it. The Loreblade must be capable of casting spells of the adjusted spell level.

Textual Casting(Ex): At 5th level, the guild has taught the Loreblade specialized techniques that allow him to shape his raw magic through specially prepared scrolls.

The Loreblade gains a number of scroll slots equal to half his class level. He may prepare arcane scrolls in his possession to occupy these slots; this takes the same amount of time as and can be done as part of a prepared caster's daily preparation, and are contained within the Loreblade's Scrollbook. Once prepared, a scroll occupies a scroll slot indefinitely - it need not be prepared again until the Loreblade wishes to change them. A scroll prepared in this fashion is irrevocably changed. Once prepared in this fashion, a scroll ceases to function as a normal scroll, and cannot be prepared into a scroll slot again if removed. A Loreblade may replace his prepared scrolls at any time.

Once a scroll has been added to a scroll slot, the Loreblade may cast the contained spell spontaneously, using his caster level rather than the scroll's. Spontaneous casters treat the spell as though it were on their spells known list, and prepared casters may lose both prepared spells and open slots of the appropriate level to cast the spell. Both spontaneous and prepared casters may spontaneously add metamagic; because the scroll does some of the work in shaping the spell, this does not increase the casting time. He may cast spells from scrolls this way a number of time per day equal to his casting modifier.

Scrollstrike(Su): At 6th level, a Loreblade learns to channel magic from his scrolls through his weapon.

As a standard action, a Loreblade may make a scrollstrike. This is an attack at the Loreblade's highest base attack bonus. On a successful hit, the Loreblade may cast any spell he has prepared with Scroll Casting upon the target; however, this does not function with any Charm or Compulsion spells, and any area of effect spells only affect the recipient of the scrollstrike. If it is higher, the Loreblade may use the attack roll in place of the spell's normal DC.

Internal Library(Sp): Extensive reading and research of the guild's vast library has filled the Loreblade's mind to the brim with rare knowledge.

At 10th level, the Loreblade may cast Legend Lore once per week as a spell-like ability. However, the casting only takes 5 minutes, regardless of how long the casting would normally take with the amount of information the Loreblade possesses, although it still gives as much information as normal.

Requests @ Admin team

I found a few custom class ideas on the creativity forum that I'd like to take for a spin. Endurance style casting. Solo players got the short end of the stick when trying to do endgame content and classic "Warlock" class is basically a meme, while full Mage archetype characters are always viable; this bridges the gap between the various realms, exchanging casting speed and the power of top rank spells for the kind of endurance a solo player needs.

And then there is the one-off expansion on the idea endurance pseudo-casting...

All together it comes out to be a solid tier 3+ character with good, but not great, casting and excellent sustained damage a bit lower than Endgame-tier DPS characters. The plan would be something like [Ritualist 15/Reserve Mage 5], possibly including Truenaming if the system is ever patched in with the player suggested balance adjustments
