After a year of living together he has to move in with the young wife and before the year is out, if both have children, he has to commit to live with them for the next 70 years. A man can legally change his mind after 1 year and may choose a different wife if the marriage was not willing. However, if the man changes his mind after 1 year, he will have to pay the woman 50 percent of the monthly salary while paying off his loans and simply they have to live separately for one more year. Usually two years after the marriage is over the man will receive his wife's dowry which consists of a free furnished house, all the furniture, food and rent and a monthly cash allowance. There has been a study done in 1990, by the Chinese Center for Social Development in which information of marriage income, consumption, and wages of men and women were compared with the results of the old census. The results were horrible for married women and made them depressed, which encouraged no kids.
