171b. Profile
18
19Name: Ezekiel Gravez
20
21Faction: The Watch
22
23Function: Technowizard Space Cowboy... and provocateur.
24
25Series: Anarchy Online - 1.
26
27Quote: "Ya dun need a lawman ta shield ya from da bad guys. Ya just need to nut up and be yer best selves."
28
29Profile: Ezekiel Gravez is something of an enigma. Outwardly, he appears to be an archetypical cowboy, drifting from place to place and meting out even servings of justice and backwoods wisdom. Beneath his gruff and seemingly provincial demeanor is a deceptively cerebral man deeply troubled by his natural talent for destruction. Zeke is a Nano-technician, essentially a wizard that uses ‘sufficiently advanced technology’ instead of magic. Both his ‘magic’ and his skills as a pilot qualified him to move dangerous, often illegal cargo for a living. This career provided opportunities for travel the world over, as well as a great deal of personal freedom. His experience avoiding or outsmarting the authorities has made him all too aware of the power imbalance that exists both in his world and in the Multiverse. His aim is to correct that imbalance, but he worries that will be difficult to do without the easy-button that is his ‘magic,’ and wonders to himself if there’s any moral high ground at all in destroying as a means of liberation.

312b. Character Type: OC
32
333b. Advantages
34
353b-1. Advantages: Defining
36
37Offensive Nano-programs:
38
39Attack List - Ranged: Zeke's nanites can manipulate matter around them to attack with lacerations, blunt force, cold, heat, decay, radiation, toxic chemicals, sound, and electricity. The nanites can also add these properties to shots fired from his revolver.
40
41Exotic Damage: Through expert nano-programming, Zeke can attack enemies from the inside out. Digital defenses or defensive internal body processes (medical, chemical, or biological) can counteract the nanites.
42
43Hacking: Lastly, the nanites can interface with digital technology and execute commands on Zeke's behalf, which, more often than not, involve bypassing whatever security measures a given piece of technology has, sapient or otherwise.
44Defensive Nano-programs:
45
46Improbable Defense: Once per scene, for a few seconds, Zeke may immobilize himself to erect a personal force field that shields him from an active, hostile threat. The shield can't recognize scenery as hostile, so it can be pierced by exploiting the environment.
47
48Buffs: Nanites may be used to temporarily enhance Zeke’s physical attributes, or to form barriers that protect from damage.
49
50Share Power: Zeke can cast his buffs on allies, as well as enhance their attacks with the same properties his offensive programs use.
51
523b-2. Advantages: Significant
53
54Veteran of Rubi-Ka:
55His time on the dangerous desert world of Rubi-Ka has shaped Zeke in a number of ways.
56Knowledge – Computers: Zeke can easily adapt to foreign technology and analyze its capabilities nearly instantly.
57
58Vehicle Mastery - Cargo Vehicles: Zeke is an expert in one or two-pilot hovering or VTOL cargo vehicles, often calling comparison to the 'space trucker' archetype.
59Repair: Zeke can use his nanites to rapidly repair machines and technology, given enough raw materials. Scarcity of materials or unfamiliar devices slow his pace to that of a skilled professional, and both together slow it to a crawl.
60
61Transhumanity:
62
63Analysis: Living implants, known as symbiants, augment Zeke's intelligence to superhuman levels. He can analyze foes mid-combat to gain insight into their attack patterns and weaknesses.
64
65Hint: Outside of combat, and with time to think, Zeke can deduce with surprising accuracy the location of important objects or information, if he has a reason to suspect the presence of either.
66Immortality: Upon death, Zeke resurrects on his planet, with temporary short-term memory loss. Heavily corrosive, toxic or death-aspected attacks, as well as certain illegal weapons on his planet, can corrupt backups and prevent resurrection.
67
68Matter Metamorphosis:
69
70Destruction: The nanites can weaken or destroy matter, such as computer consoles or an enemy's equipment, through accelerated corrosion or simple deconstruction.
71
72Field Shaping: Within his field of vision, Zeke can make fields of lacerating wind, concussive explosions, blizzards, wildfires, clouds of radiation or toxic chemicals, or lightning storms. The size of these hazards can be as long as a semi trailer or as tall as a telephone pole, but they grow weaker as they approach their upper limits of size.
73
74
753b-3. Advantages: Minor
76
77Resilience:
78
79Superhumanity: In general, Zeke's subspecies of humanity is stronger and more durable than the average human, but he's largely left his physical attributes behind in pursuit of mental strength.
80
81Forget Me:
82
83Mind Manipulation: Several of Zeke's nano-programs can temporarily 'wipe' aggression from a target's conscious mind, halting or preventing any hostile action. The effect wears off after a few minutes or after the target takes damage, whichever occurs first.
84Fold Time and Space:
85
86Flash Movement: Zeke is capable of teleporting himself to one of a limited number of distant locations he has 'anchored' himself to, albeit with significant cast time. The nanoprogram can be interrupted with even slight physical damage before completion, and anti-teleportation fields will prevent its casting outright.
87
88Remote Manipulation: As long as an object is in Zeke's line of sight, his nanites can be programmed to interact with it as he would with his own two hands.
89(Share Power): Additionally, Zeke may take up to five allies along with him.
90
914b. Disadvantages
92
934b-1. Disadvantages: Trouble
94
95Outsider: The vast majority of Zeke's talents are, in some way or another, destructive. Because of this, he often feels alienated from others, and wears a 'mask' of a country bumpkin to appear non-threatening. Being sincere, communicating personal problems and sharing deep feelings are unfamiliar territory for him. Most of the time, it's more important for Zeke to be polite and unobtrusive than it is for him to assert his will. That said, when the 'real' him comes out, it often takes others completely by surprise, which only serves to push Zeke further into his shell later on. This is especially dangerous, because his sense of morality is already skewed; his idea of 'good' is more about what reassures and comforts him than what is genuinely altruistic. ‘Good’ in Zeke’s eyes is not so much kindness as it is a balancing of the scales; a closed fist of vengeance raised at oppressors. His ‘good’ is not the same as ‘nice,’ and that often serves to push him away from others.
96
974b-2. Disadvantages: Significant
98
99A Good Sob Story:
100Ezekiel's sense of altruism can be exploited by a Good Sob Story(tm) that fits his criteria. The serfs abused by a tyrannical wizard, the frontier town at the mercy of lawless bandits, or even a pretty face with a good fake cry can leverage him into half-baked, quixotic manhunts.
101
1024b-3. Disadvantages: Minor
103
104Ill-fortune:
105Sometimes fate is not always kind to 'Zeke. There is a chance per scene that something terrible happen at just a crucial moment.
106
107Nano-program Fumble:
108Due to the volatile nature of destructive nano-programs versus the physical world, there is a 5% chance of a program misfiring, and thus failing to execute. On these rare occasions, something bad may happen related to the nature of the program itself.
109
1105b. Themelisting
111
112RUBI-KA. A radioactive desert planet leased intergalactic hyper corporation known as OMNI-TEK. Contesting this corporation's control are the CLANS--a number of polities comprised mainly of former Omni employees. Rubi-Ka is the only planet in the known universe with a supply of NOTUM, a mineral with scientific applications to rival the discovery of cellular biology or nuclear fission. This mineral was so precious and rare that wars between Omni-Tek and other hypercorps erupted in short order. Omni-Tek's neverending need to compete saw the creation of numerous amazing technological advances, from near-immortality to alternate dimensions, all made possible through nano-technology in some way or another.
113
114The arrival of humans to Rubi-ka was by no means a happy accident but a plot by an immortal being seeking to break the universe's constant cycle of destruction and rebirth. Her machinations revealed an immensely powerful creation engine known as the SOURCE to humanity... and to hostile aliens intent on taking it from them. Thus far, the various factions on Rubi-Ka have successfully repelled the aliens' attacks, but the invaders show a unity and strength of purpose rarely seen on so fractious a planet.
115
116C. CHARACTER INFORMATION
117
1181c. Personality
119
120Ezekiel Gravez pretends to be a simple being, leading a simple life. However, it often becomes apparent to the contrary, spending any amount of time with him. He is an idealistic hero, whom has convinced himself that real power is behind the curtain. Although he does feel that his actions are often altruistic in nature, its more often that it makes him feel better as a person. This has been cultivated in him by the Council that cloned and created him. He has been taught that there is a 'greater good' and thus manipulating/gaming the system is how the greater good is accomplished. He is a creature of faith, but that faith has been founded around the idea that as their agent, his actions are justifiable.
121
122Zeke is also something of a maverick. He is often too good to do things he considers beneath him, and also too critically perceiving of most authority figures. There some hubris to him in the middle of all that. He is confident in his abilities, but is not too overbearing in his opinions. He lets people be people, but sometimes will directly intervene should someone's ambitions become stronger than their benevolence.
123
1241c-1. Response to the Multiverse
125
126Ezekiel always felt there was something more, always just beyond the fringe of things. Perhaps it was a layer of this world, or layers within worlds, that always seemed plausible. He is fully aware that the theories of Time and Space show absolute proof of that. However, travelling to these places can be dangerous, even life-threatening.
127His initial reactions were jarring. In the great sea that is Time and Space, he hedged that all bets were off. The chance at meeting new sentients and sapients in the beyond has given him hope that things are not always so alien as they seem. After becoming involved in a couple of conflicts, he was approached discreetly by The Watch. Zeke's skillset could be quite valuable to them, and in turn he could become more familiar with the Multiverse through their system of contacts.
128
1291c-2. Motivation
130
131Moreso now than ever. Zeke's wonder has turned into all out wanderlust. There is so much to see and do, that there may not be time enough in this existence to do it all. As Science has stated, that the entire universe is fabricated from the many top common elements from the table. It should be inspirational at the very least to see how the multiverse has formed as a result. Culturally there is so much more on the table now as well. But above all these things, the possibility to have so much more success in aligning people together for common good is also high. This would be an enriching experience all around.
132
1331c-3. Good Side
134
135Affability and Geniality. Because Zeke believes full that people are the most wonderful and detrimental thing in the multiverse, no greater reason can exist then to be neighbourly at the very least. As explained in motivation there must be countless problems in the multiverse that could easily just be solved with a little humanity and reason. And, barring that - perhaps a little trickery as well. In the course of what Zeke does, there has to be good in the world as well and its important to be able to have a hand in directing that towards itself. A good negotiation can go a long way to ensuring that factions can become stronger, together. In order for that to happen, one must be quick with an ear and sly with the tongue.
136
1371c-4. Bad Side
138
139Zeke feels mostly alone. Even on his home planet amongst other cloned and nano-enhanced humanoids, this is true. He so little in common with most folks, that he simply takes it as token it may never get better. The good he tries to bring into any given encounter is about him reaching out. Although he has not yet realized it yet, there is a hubris to him that lies within him. Like all people of means he keeps his trends but a really bad falling out is also enough for him to ignite a really hard spark. Because having the knowledge of all this destructive science and entropy is akin to being a mobile bomb platform. In the end when the chips are down, there's always this to fall upon and it’s terrifying what one may accomplish when in rare form. There are some in the universe that absolutely take pleasure in this. If Zeke were influenced to become a much more pragmatic and objectifying personality, then he would surely develop into something of an angel of death.
140
1411c-5. Faction Relations
142
143Gravez is new to much of the multiverse in terms of the grand scale. But, being part of the watch and having access to their resources has given him a little bit of a window into the public identities of not only themselves, but the other factions as well. Having not much in terms of relationship to it all then what he possesses is merely academic.
144
145The Watch: Zeke admires their Vision. The history of vigilantism is the perfect place to make his own mark within the organization itself. This needs to be nurtured so that independance and critical thinking can become emergent in people that could bolster the Watch's diverse base of power. The downside is that infiltration is a very real hazard, and must be vanguarded against carefully.
146
147The Paladins: Zeke admires their Code. However, the thing about righteousness is that its a double edged sword. Zeke believes that while it is necessary to be right in certain circumstances, one does not need austerity or grandiosity in order to preserve it through intimidation. Thus, any amount of bankrolling this should be immediately viewed with suspicion. Sometimes Law and Justice are not equal in the same settings. Sometimes the discussions of these things are too long in the tooth. You can't build without destruction. Therefore, without the liminal space the Right will always Bully others, even if there is no covert evil afoot.
148
149The Concord: Zeke admires their Passion. The idea that powerful individuals of means certain is a very real thing that Zeke can grasp and in some cases makes him a viable candidate for membership. The problem is that not everyone can escape it if they chose. You can opt in, but opting out may be a risk.
150
151All the greatest organized nations are susceptible to corruption, and having any one person with a larger say sparks corruption. With as fractious as the Concord is, corruption is ripe in every crack. Thus, might without right can sometimes turn an otherwise innocent person into the devil if a popular finger is directed at them.
152
1534c. Background:
154
155Zeke was born into Rubi-ka from a system of cloning alongside nano-enhancing. There is a significant portion of humanity on Rubi-ka that is born this way. It is a part of that world's culture, and thus is not seen as a stigmatizing thing. However, what faction and organization that spent the cash to create the person has a rather interesting culture of its own. Enter: Ezekiel Gravez. Being a Nano-technician is sort of a one-track ride. However, he uses his skill set to become an agent of power balancing. If one could say the most about him, is that he is a genial creature. He is not prone to over rebelliousness or violence. He is a worker of the people, and a speaker, as well as a listener. No one would ever suspect that he champions the little guy. However, as an agent of the Organization that created him, he has at his command a full spectrum of problem-creating/solving nanotechnology. It's through this and the subtle influence upon people around him that make him an all-out travelling troublemaker. That is the dichotomy of Ezekiel’s life, to be a provocateur while maintaining a mostly forgettable presence. He is a creature of contradictions many times over, and those contradictions are necessary tools to influence the balance between himself and others, life over death, what is seen and must remain unseen, etc etc.
156
1575c. Combat:
158
159While (to me at least) some of his abilities seem demi-god like, the point of playing this character seems to fall under a much more social aspect. He can absolutely go toe to toe with some heavy hitters, but mostly that's hard built into a last resort more than a first. I'd put him on par with a nano-fueled version of Black Wizard from the Final Fantasy series. He can clearly outclass any form of normie you put in front of him, even if he chooses to not to strike back. That being said, he is still clearly a physical being. He can bleed, have broken bones, etc - but the moment the defensive nano-programs come into play, they would be hitting the proverbial brick wall. Like any character of his weight class, you can drop a building on him/snipe him down/put a live grenade in his pocket and there would be no more Zeke. Everything he does to stay alive is pre-emptive. Thus, he is completely mortal in the sense that if he is not prepared for a given and very specific situation, then killing him is not that tough. He can dodge. He can soak damage. But, it all comes from being buffed and ready for it.
160
1616c. Why? (OPTIONAL):I play this character because in my own history of characters I've ever played, I very much enjoy a 'Mage' style gameplay. I enjoy it because it allows me to be a problem-solver with many tools instead of just one or two. It's synthesis rounds out just about every group, and having some skills as a support character makes that happen. It also gives me the ability to eventually say 'screw this, I’m done playing nice'. As a persona, I actually missed playing this character which was an OC from the MMO Anarchy Online. AO was a fantastic storyline and a wonderful setting. I feel bad that age has really shown and it's got enough third party hacks and cheaters these days, it’s become unplayable to me. I wanted to reclaim this character and continue to advance him because I feel there's still more story to tell/create.
162
1637c. Miscellaneous: This is just a miscellaneous field. If you have any notes or special requests (potential defection notices, for example), this is the place to put them.
